I had the pleasure of escorting Ms. O'Hara to the premiere of the full length Riverdance show at Dublin's Point Depot back in the mid-90s. It was an assignment more than an assignation. My bosses at RTE (the Irish Broadcasting network where I was working at the time) gave me the job, telling me that as she was fond of the tipple that I was to make sure she was safe - from both the effects of the whiskey and the enthusiasm of fans who might crowd her. I laughed being rather fond of the drink myself and was assured that that was the point - that she should have fun and not feel like I was cramping her style. The performance was a great success and the crowd even gave her a standing ovation. She was great fun. After the show we partied with the cast for a while and she let her hair down, dancing with the best of them. When the evening (morning?) was drawing to a close her car arrived and as she parted she shared a wet kiss with me and it was hot. Even then in her early 70s Ms. O'Hara was one sexy gorgeous woman.

I loved The Quiet Man. It’s a big nostalgic favorite of mine. I think the acting by all of the cast was top notch, but of course, Maureen O’Hara and John Wayne were perfectly matched for their roles and they hit every note of the story absolutely perfectly. And John Ford certainly showed his directing chops with this one. I’ve read some criticism that Ford’s depiction of the Irish community and people was not genuine or realistic…maybe a bit sweet? Well, Ford wasn’t attempting social commentary, he was making a movie. It was great entertainment and one that people loved, still love and wanted to see and will still watch. Plus it won an Academy Award for best direction and best cinematography. What’s not to love? ❤

O'Hara seemed to be a woman who kept her wits about her. So it stands to reason she would avoid getting involved with a bunch of louts with their excessive ways. That is not to say there might not have been a dailence here and there. Her reputation has stood the test of time in a town that lives on salacious rumor and gossip.

She never punched John Ford, John Ford, in fact, punched her in the back of the head at a gathering. She said she didn't hit him back because she wanted to show she could take a punch. More on the correction on the end to make a different point. Other than you need better research. I never believed the rumor about a romantic relationship. Saying Wayne not wanting to marry Maureen because he wanted softer, gentler woman, is crap. His wives were strong willed, (a couple down right nasty) and outspoken, far from soft. She did not strike me as the demure mistress on the side type. For the very fact she was a ball buster who took no crap. While filming 'A Bill of Divorcement' director John Farrow is the one who became infatuated with her, and when she showed no interest, he bullied her on set, that is until Maureen had enough, and punched him in the face, after which he smartened up. Now does that sound like the kind of woman to just sit back, in a secretive, second fiddle arrangement?

Bravo 👏👏 I like the Spunk & Tone of Your Comment's about Miss O'Hara. Although the Director You Mentioned? Was that Mr John Ford? And Not John Farrow? Whom You are Referring Too. Or Was this John Farrow, by Chance Mia Farrow's Father or Husband. That was a Big Deal at Some Point in Tinsel Town, at that Time? My Inquesitive Nature is too Ask. Because of All the Old Stories, and Innuendos that use to Come Out of Hollywood, Washington, London, or just Out from under Door's, that were Supposed? To be CLOSED too prying Noses or Eye's 👀👀 & Ear's 👂🦻. This Juicy Stuff is Now Classic Gossip, as Well as the Shit that Old Movie Buff's, Crave too have too Know. Besides the Stories are AWESOME To Hear. Thank You & Please Clarify Your Remarks on that Reference to the John, You Mentioned.

@@robertwaid3579 Maureen herself commented on the punch she received from John Ford, whom cast her in her breakout roll in How Green Was My Valley. Does not mention exactly why he hit her. He had a bad temper. She said she took the punch and didn't hit him back to prove she could take a punch as well as any man. They worked together for over 20 years, she was close friends with Ford and his wife. John Ford did write letters, poems about her. However, the director she punched was Australian John Farrow, father to Mia Farrow, her mother was Maureen O’Sullivan.

@@DIDYOUSEETHAT172 Thank You to All that made Remarks about My Comment's. All the Polite One's are appreciated, & though Some are Inquesitive or Off Tilted or Rude slightly. I'll Accept Them. Back to Miss O'Hara, the information You returned was Most Helpful & Clarified the Comments of Who was Out of Line too Her. Such a Person as John Farrow was. So I'd Assume He was an Australian Arse by that type of Conduct & Behavior. Recalling Detail's, of Miss O' Hara's Christian Irish Heritage, most likely it was a Issue of Personalities, and Wills that Got Him punched by Her. "Ka POW " Bam Bam, Smack. And He probably Deserved it entirely when She Did it. LOl 😂😆 Again in the Patent Trap, it was Hilarious as Hell when She Belted Brian Keith in the Kitchen Scene's or when She Swung On The Duke. In The Quiet Man, as Well. FGD, As She was Quoted as Saying, Many Time's over Her Career, & Lifetime. Men we're Her Best Friend's & They Always Truly Considered Her as An Equal, but Never as an Inferior Person, or a Unequal Sex. Alas I Miss Hearing about Her well Being, or the Great Stories of Her Career & Life. But Most of All I Miss Maureen's Bueatiful Singing Voice. As NO One has ever Sang OH Danny Boy, So Fantastically as She Could. The Rest of the Song's She would Sing? Were Wonderful Also. Well Thank You so Much Again for Sharing. @@robertwaid3579 Lets not forget the shots she took at the Duke in McLintock, one of Duke's outright comedies. 😂John Farrow was a dictator on set, and dick in life, a philanderer to say the least, with a number of illegitimate children. He was a prolific Oscar Nominated director, / screenwriter. Surprisingly he was not one to toot his own horn like Hitchcock and others, so he is not as well known publicly. He served in the Canadian and British Navy in WW2, as a logistics officer, discharging under a medical, with the rank of Commander, after catching typhoid. He was the Errol Flynn of directors in how he conducted his like. He worked with many top names, and directed John Wayne in Hondo, for some reason most people think John Ford directed Hondo. John Farrow directed Hondo, however John Ford, as he did when Duke was directing the Alamo, horned his way in, and directed a few auxiliary scenes. Ford never even received credit, but still managed to let everyone know he was involved. I'm an actor / stunt performer / war historian. But I do love to dabble in film history. 😊👍
