One unnoticed thing is that our indian team toured nz, aus, england continuously in 2014.Dhoni captained all the sena tours and made sure that he will lead the team during the tough time. Then he returned the captaincy to virat. 2015 to 2017 we destroyed all teams in our home under virats captaincy.

tbh, this makes a lot of sense. India played with a well settled squad in 2018 and 20 Aussie series, and won there. Here it is for the first time since 2012, India are playing without Pujara or Rahane, and now is the time, to prepare our youngsters for a smooth transition in test cricket. Ashwin might retire in 2025, after which i feel, India might struggle to get an offie, unless and until they groom one. Due to WTC format its too risky to test out new players, cuz every match has some points at stake.

Dhoni as a captain is something else , no one can beat his skill . I am not talking about his trophies of win % or anything else . The main reason that makes dhoni a legend captain is his ability to control game , to play tactical tricks on ground , to stay calm in every situation , to change the game from behind the wickets. His ability to take decision obv they are not 100% right but they are right most of the times than any other player. Honestly i dont want to prove this to anyone else , every true cricket fan knows his contribution and unparalled legacy, even outside india.

Fun fact:-In the 2020-21 series against Australia, Warner and Smith were out of form(because they had been away from tests after the ban). Starc was out of form. Cummins and Hazlewood were the only fighters in their team. Due to inexperienced batting lineup, Australia lost the series 1-2. If Ponting, Damien Martin, Gilchrist etc existed in their batting line-up, Australia would have thrashed India 4-0.

They returned from the ban in 2019. Smith had an incredible ashes away tour in 2019, Warner recorded 3 90s during the same tour. Starc took 4fers & 3fer during that series, he wasn't consistent but he was bowling fine, and even so his general record in test cricket is inconsistent. Australia also had Labuschagne, Cam Green & Travis Head which they didn't have in 2018. By the end of the series India were missing Shami, Umesh, Ishant, Bumrah, Kohli, Ashwin while Australia were still playing close to their full length team. Those players from the 2000s, don't exist as players anymore. You can't turn back time, you wouldn't be downplaying every teams win vs Australia just bc those players that played *20* years ago are no longer playing. So, does the same thing apply to Kohli's ODI and T20 captaincy also? Because Kohli's win percentage in ODI format as a captain is 68.42 while in T20Is 64.58. And as far as winning the T20I World Cup is concerned, he carried the entire batting lineup in 2014, 2016, 2022 t20 wc. How did he become failed captain when the team did not supported him? And in 2019 odi wc, we had reached the semi-finals under his captaincy, that too there was no home advantage. We reached ct finals too. Till date no one has defended Kohli's captaincy? Why? Because he didn't win the IPL trophy? I don't think there was a problem with Kohli's captaincy and everyone must have understood this by now. To win a trophy, as much as team performance is important, a little luck is also important otherwise even a captain (rohit) who has won 5 IPL trophies cannot do anything.

Agreed but this doesn't mean the captain should be so ineffective and defensive. The captain is experienced atleast he should support kl and Kohli. Agree or not yes we have young players rn in the team still Rohit as a Test captain sucks. No positive, aggressive leadership. In 2021 sa tour also, kohli and rahul played well. Rishabh played well too. Pujara and rahane showed glimpses but not consistent. Rohit was injured. So Mayank in. He scored a 60 in 1st match and made a very good partnership with kl and which eventually led to india's win in sa's fortress centurion. Bumrah, shami & siraj along with thakur and ash bowled well. But in the 3rd match siraj injured after bowling 6 overs leaking 37 runs for no wicket. Bumrah struggled. Thakur took a 7fer in 2nd match which means he will definitely fail in the 3rd match.Ash in sa wasn't good. And that's why we lost the series
