Nothing against this presenter he does a great job, as do many others. But take the bits and pieces of information that really matter to your driving type. Yes a GT3 RS would be a dream car for anyone, but it’s a track car through and through. Many are being returned to dealers on consignment because the owners are learning that what they really want is more of a GT car experience. They end up buying a GTS or Turbo instead. Porsche is an absolute amazing brand who builds incredible cars, right from the base Carerra to the top of the line Turbo S. Even in the pack of racing cars flying by, the screaming of the flat-6 stood out really well, despite being only the third or fourth loudest, definitely behind the Huracan and the R8, and maybe behind the AMG. Plus the 911s just looked fantastic, sent some chills every time one of them flew by, changed gears just a few meters after my spot, so the sound of the gear change crackled all over the grand stand. And don't even get me started on the Porsche Carrera Cup. 26 glorious 911 GT3 Cup cars doing a standing start, some of them bouncing off the rev limiter before a gear change every lap they flew by on the main straight right in front of me. Again, chills.

Watching this video makes me realize how impractical the GT3RS is. What makes a 911 special to me is how capable yet practical it is, you can track on weekends and commute on weekdays. @jdsk89147 ай бұрын
You are absolutely correct but I reckon Porsche specifically intended this GT3RS more for the track. The electronics, brakes, tyres, active aerodynamics etc. enable it to get those insane laptimes. I wouldn't begrudge anyone a GT3RS, but I see it as a great tool for a very specific job. The better a specific a tool is for a given job, the more compromise there must necessarily be. The GT3RS is a fabulous track car, but you lose out on some practicality and have a high price tag. If one can afford it and can live with the compromises, why not? I suspect the GT3 (minus the RS) is probably a more palatable every day driver / weekend track compromise. The 996 is a relative bargain, but my choice would be the next iteration, 997.1 / 987.

I suspect more than 10 times better. It's non-linear - like the difference between an ordinary meal and a perfect meal - the taste, the texture, the smell - all combine to produce that boost to serotonin, that 'wow' factor that pulls it up out of the ordinary - and makes it extraordinary and a memorable experience. And after all, Mat is car wow, not auto ordinaire...

25k for a Mk1 early 911_996 with the proper lights and some mods with a good service history was a good deal. Well done you but a GT3 RS is a lovelly car but sadly I am not on a internet journalists income so I will take the 996 every time and have as much fun as I need. Nice Vid well done.

You need wider tyres on your old 996 because with it lowered it makes the gap between the tyre and wheel arch look huge and a bit silly. Also kinda shocked an aftermarket company has not built an update kit to fix the front end on them. I have seen two over the years that the owner had later model guards/ headlights and lights fitted to the older 996 but it took a massive amount of work as they basically had to massively modify them to fit the older model making it not really cost effective. But surely some company had made fiberglass or better still carbon fiber Guards that then bolt up without mods and gives the better traditional headlight look.

With all due respect, I also don't think the GT3 RS is a supercar. GT 3: Pretty much the ultimate sportscar GT 2 RS & GT 3 RS: Road-legal racecars 918 Spyder: Hypercar 911 Turbo S: Daily / Grand Tourer, Autobahn-monster, backroad hero, but practical enough I think, supercars come with an inherent sillyness and lack of usability in most situations (including race tracks) that just doesn't fly with Porsche. Thoughts?

Some Porsches can be driven and still be an investment… a GT3 Touring costed like 190k in Germany when it was launched and now those are offered for like 230k with 5k-10k km on the clock.
@Sp1k3e7 ай бұрын
@@gockelxxxxxl9584 I know the situation pretty well but even in EU, you weren't able to buy gt3 touring without dealer markup (or at least in CZ) and basically even today thanks to low allocation numbers you cant buy even base carrera under 4 mil. Kč (160k euro) and GT3 were easily 6-7 million cars (240-280k Euro) unless your porsche dealer was your boy / girlfriend. 911s are completely out of reach because of insanely good marketing of Porsche and "investors" And so it makes more sense to buy Taycan GTS for reasonable 70-80k euro, rather than more enjoyable but more money consuming and easily double the price 911.

There’s no way the 996 sounds better. It literally sounds old. It’s not a tight sound at all. The GT3 is all within a certain range and the 996 sounds like it has exhaust leaks. Also can’t wait for this video to be spammed multiple times on the Carwow channel. They’ll just delete the community post after a day and repost it to get around KZbin’s anti-spam measures.

People should address the major engine issue with the 996 and 997, everyone knows about the ims bearing but it the coating on the forged pistons that are going to inevitably chew the cylinder walls up. I actually really like the look of the 996 but the prices of them elevated into the territory of better porsche options like the 987 boxsters and base caymans (the s models also had those same coated pistons) so for under 30k my money would be on a cayman 2.9

Driving a car like the GT3 RS is a huge flex because you really can’t do much with it other than drive it and enjoy the performance. Which is a lot. But it really says I can afford to have a two seater supercar that doesn’t even have room for one bag of groceries if my wife’s going to the store with me

@mm67057 ай бұрын
Those poly bushings in the 996 are what is causing the harsh ride. They are likely seized in the joints of your control arms. They are one of the worst things you can do to a car, they have LITERALLY zero benefits, they just make the handling way worse even before they fuse over time. The material inherently binds in joints. You gotta replace them all with a self lubricating material like delrin, and use brass sleeves machined to the proper lengths to relieve any binding stress on the bushings. This allows for the suspension to move properly but no deflection within the joints beyond their inherent geometry. A whole kit even custom one off is only around 1000 bucks.
