At the Las Vegas Challenge Presented by Innova, at tournament central, at the TechDisc booth, I set the World Record for the fastest throw of a golf disc sidearm/forehand... or did I?

My favorite story of yours is when you tell the story of walking back into that disc golf shop for the first time in however many years, shocked to find that not only is there your poster on the wall of this shop, but you were STILL (at the time) the all time side arm distance record holder. Can’t wait to meet you at Idlewild next month

83 mph should be a record too yes? You’re an amazing guy Scott. I’m 60 and I watch everything you create. Thank you. My side arm is awful. Serviceable I guess. The only reason I have one is because you said throwing a ball. Thank you Scott for what you do.

I practice with Tech Disc a lot and I notice two things: 1. My non warmed up first throw is often one of my faster throws in the session. 2. Going a few MPH over your typical seems to happen at least once per session. Impossible to settle this question definitively and error is intrinsic to any form of measurement. However, I’m inclined to believe it’s legit unless the disc was otherwise malfunctioning. Bottom line though: I’m totally blown away that someone in their 50s is routinely throwing 80mph sidearms.

There are youtube videos that explain that you actually throw harder before you warm up because the muscles are not loose for disc golf. I hate how people want to shame you because they think they throw faster or are the best of the best and cant throw that fast. Either way Scott, your awesome, for viewing both sides.

I am 40 years old. My right arm hurts from Disk Golf practice. I have 96 games played this year or more. I have been writing down my scores for most of that time since I returned to the game minus my first games this year and incomplete games where I did not finish. I have gotten better from practice and watching videos on KZbin. My distance is unfortunately below 186 feet. I know this because that is the closest basket on the course I throw on. I practiced release angle, footing, snap, nose angle, played with 6 different disks, putting, distance putting, anheizer, straight shots, wind manipulation, arm angle, finger angle, back/hip angle, etc.

@@lorenbarnhurst I have played with a few local players. Listened to their tips. I have not seen anyone throwing 250 feet on the course. There are a few capable of throwing 200. Throwing 250 feet on that course is only an advantage on hole 9. Since that is a 302 foot hole.

@@lanceknightmare I think something is missing, perhaps in translation? I can throw 200 with my offhand. I aced a 335 hole last week. Are you talking meters, not feet? Putters go 200 ft easy.
@lanceknightmare
@lanceknightmare 22 күн бұрын
@@lorenbarnhurst It is a 9 hole, par 3 course. Holes are anywhere between 186 feet and 302 feet. I have only birdied holes 5 and 8 which are both downhill. I have pared every hole except for hole 9 which is 302 feet.

@@lanceknightmare Do you have any local leagues at courses with longer holes? I'm guessing the guys who can through 300-400ft are at those courses. Of course, people on the internet exaggerate their distances or have wind or something to help. But I'm 37, 5'-5", short armed, and have still thrown 280ft with the right disc on flat (measured with udisc that may not be super accurate and I'm also usually in the 230-250ft range), and I have terrible form. It sounds like you maybe have only played with the local guys that don't need to throw very far because they don't need to on the short par 3 course. Also, I'm guessing your biggest issues are throwing nose up and not bracing right. I know because I struggle with these too. Try @nickkrush.dgandfit series on "Demystifying the brace". It's the best I've seen at explaining the physics behind the need for bracing as well as some drills to help (he's also literally a freakin' Rocket scientist so he understands physics). I haven't had the time to go through the drills but I need to soon, as my brace is nearly non-existent. I'm not sure what helps for nose up other than just good form. There is a lot of controversy on the causes of nose up but the most common suggestion is incorrect form. If you try Nick Krush's drills and they help, reply back!

Idk, my first few throws of the day are often the farthest/hardest. As I warm up I get better at accuracy and touch but the distance slowly fades away. That's probably just because I suck though. Anyways, I wish we got the tech disc in Eagles hands back in the prime of his forehand throws. When it looked like he moved his arm at 5mph and the disc just teleported to 400ft. That would be some interesting data to compare to yours and see the differences and similarities.

Were expecting a new round of tosses ;D I heard that up to 80 MPH its VERY accurate so its A-OK. For me you threw a mere 85.23 MPH then if you dont want it to be 86+ :P But also... throw it at 83MPH in a headwind of 10 and your disc says; I am flying at 90+!!! When someone want test and see a Destroyer fly as for the big arms, toss it in a big headwind neutral or juuuust a bit nose up and don't care about the distance =)

Anything having to do with technology may have its moments, especially if it's new and needing adjustments. In a natural sense, your sidearm is fantastic. Should that equipment read what it does, it's likely just doing it's best to keep up.

Is a 'Speed Record with a TechDisc' in itself Legit? Any disc that is modified in any way is no longer PDGA approved... so unless ALL the records are with the same disc and device in the same location and weight... there could be an advantage/disadvantage... The records should be with an approved disc (sorta goes without saying)... with NO modification, and external verification (My personal favourite is a high speed camera and graded marker so it can be calculated in several positions. (Mythbusters style for example)... But you could then throw a radar etc in there and have several checks. (of course then you can end up with the old saying... "A man with a clock knows the time... A man with many can never be sure".

@@TheButlerNZ that's why it's called "speed record with a Tech Disc" and not "Speed record with A Disc". This is specifically speed records recorded BY a tech disc.

It's just a tech disc record. Not an official PDGA record, a DGPT record or an official world record. It's just interesting data, nothing more than that really. But disc golf records in general you're gonna have too many variables for it to be some buttoned down serious kinda deal. It's just a bit of fun man.

@@JaredTG. I wasn't really meaning it to be that 'angry' but having come from BBS boards in the 80's I still sometimes completely forget the lack of context typing gives... it was really just a throwaway comment. Personally I think the lightest disc with the smallest diameter and sharpest profile would be best (I'm guessing a PDGA approved disc would be a must just to keep it comparable around the globe).. For me it'd go with a Beast as it fits my hand well... spin wouldn't be a thing because.. who cares... its speed not distance... I wonder if MVP weighted rims would be a disadvantage as trying to accelerate the extra outer rim weight may just be that tiny little bit harder than a centre weight disc... again loose distance.. but who cares...
