It's entirely obvious at this point. There are too many facts to back it up. I do believe that it was rigged for making Qatar stand up (and therefore Fifa) by making it the cup that Messi won. They did not guarantee the win but the advantage for every game, even others players and coaches said that all of it was dodgy. The netherlands and France games are the ultimate proof of this. After the Netherlands game, it was obvious. How the Argentina didn't get a red card us beyond me. But we made a bet that should they meet croatia they would get a penalty. And there it was lol. The difference is that France did not need dodgy decisions, or too many of them to reach the final. Given the way Portugal were treated, especially how Ronaldo was suddenly written out, they would have needed a miracle to reach that final. When have you ever heard of a poll being made to drop a captain in the middle of such a big tournament? Who are the people that voted in it? Are they even Portuguese? The shock results could be the bigger teams just underestimating their opponents. Or Spain deciding it's okay to settle for a lost, they knock out Germany and face Morocco. In the past years the gap between the bigger nation and the smaller ones has closed exponentially. As for the officiating, it was mainly consistently weird in Argentina games. Those guys were diving, rough tackling, handling the ball and starting fights but none got a red card. Acuna was the only player that got a suspension. In this world cup the refs were told to keep track of wasted time and they signalled that by pointing on the watch, yet Argentina wasted time, got 10 minutes extra, harassed the ref and unsportsmanlike conduct vs the Dutch but no punishment. When Portugal got dubious calls, it was very much agreed that they were wrong but Argentina get them, then it is hate on Messi. The refs calls in that final were atrocious. Even the assistant, rightfully raised his flag for Messi being offside affecting play, as they were ordered, but he waved it off and the VAR showed the wrong incident.

The dutch team deserved everything they got. As someone who always wants Netherlands to do well, since it's a very small country that has given us legends, I couldn't stand their arrogance and lack of sportsmanship before and during the game, even during the penalty shootout. During the final, Messi clearly stopped participating until the ball reached Martinez. Had France scored this you would say it counts. Leave your bias out please. There were bad referees throughout the tournament, but the refs in the final were great.

Messi fan here... I 100% agree that the organisers wanted a final with any combination of Messi, Mbappe and Neymar. This would pretty much guarantee a ballon d'or winner from PSG. But regarding the goal in the final, this only works if the players interfere with the play. If you played football or seen enough football you would know that players entering the pitch during a big chance is common, especially during crucial games. However the word rigged is harsh. Favoritism? Absolutely yes. But if the WC was rigged Argentina wouldn't participate in 2 penalty knockouts. Compare it with the 2002 WC, THAT was clearly rigged to promote South Korea.

First off I’ll say yes but I think you’re overthinking the “why” part Here’s what we know This tournament was littered with scandals and corruption and I’ll get to why these next few points are very important towards the end -Qatar bribed fifa to host the tournament. -Qatar hosting the tournament was not well received by the public because of human rights issues -They used the Kafala(slavery) system to build all of their stadiums in a span of 10 years -Thousands of migrant workers reportedly died in the process -Very poor treatment of lgbtq community at this tournament - An American football journalist that was criticizing all of this and mysteriously died Now on to the tournament itself -The Fifa president and the Qatar tournament organizer both were public with statements going as far as saying it would be a crime if Messi didn’t win the World Cup. -Argentina were awarded a record 5 penalty kicks. The most ever at a tournament (the last 4 were very controversial). - the - They got early game penalties in their last 3 games (which increases the urgency of the other team to score and makes them more prone on the counterattack. For example why Morocco abandoned their defensive wall strategy after the first goal against France). -Argentina vs Netherlands. Messi also gets away with an intentional handball (the handball and pk are the serious issues without nitpicking) -In the France game from one camera angle we can see Di Maria still running before dropping to the ground. I Bring this part up because the ref immediately gives the PK and chose not to go to var(very shady, especially for a final) -The ref also gives a French player a yellow card when he gets tripped in the penalty box towards the end of regulation instead of going to var. When we see the replay, we see that he was tripped(again very shady). -One French player(Adrien Rabiot) did get the camel flu before the Morocco match and missed that game. It was reported that several players were sick and recovering but was reported that the team would be ready for the game. (Personally I think this part is just really bad luck. France is coming into this tournament with 5 injuries. It might just be the champion’s curse). There was clearly a shameless amount of favoritism surrounding Lionel Messi in this tournament and here’s why I believe that is. I think this has nothing to do with PSG. This tournament has been a disaster for both Fifa and Qatar as I’ve stated above. Lionel Messi is the most popular player in the world(we know this because his jersey has sold more than any other). If Messi gets his fairytale ending, that’s what everyone will be talking about and remember from this tournament. If he doesn’t and some random team wins then it’ll likely be about the corruption surrounding this tournament, and that’s not good for either FIFA or Qatar. Also here in a few European countries, the viewership for the group stage games have been down 20%-25% because of boycotts(I'm not sure about the rest of the globe). Having Messi stay throughout the entire tournament definitely helps the ratings. So I don’t actually think that these guys care about Messi winning a trophy. He just happens to be a beneficiary. And any of these teams playing Argentina could have still won. They were just heavily disadvantaged.

Look, I was die hard Argentina supporter since 1986, the first world cup I watched. I waited 36 years for them to win. But after this world cup I felt that I am not been able to even push myself to celebrate. I felt my team and Messi betrayed me by winning like this. They would have been loved even if they never won the world cup. Nobody can co vince me awarding too many dodgy penalties in the crucial point of the games were normal. Not to mention the blatant handball players behaviours in QF, Qatar's credentials to host world cups, PSGs ownership, even the final Argentina goal has possibilities yo be ruled out for multiple reoson not just one.
