Was the movie Zodiac historically accurate?

This movie was awesome, I'm surprised it didn't make a killing at the box office, how could it not be considered a classic? It's very watchable and I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. Zodiac could still be alive....u better say you liked the movie.

im with you... "Zodiac" was SPECTACULAR. It really sucks it didn't do 'well' as far as the box office. It is definitely a 'slow burn' which unfortunately, isn't appreciated by the average American, especially in the 'thriller/horror' genre. Being an SF born & raised native, I couldn't have been more pleased with the accuracy of the movie, and the locations (I went to Grattan Elementary where Gyllenhaal/Graysmith drops his son off to "Learn A LOT").. *WATCH "His Name Is Arthur Leigh Allen" on KZbin. Best doc I've seen on Zodiac yet, which has in depth interviews with the most prolific characters featured in Fincher's film. However, in the film, Don Cheney is portrayed an innocent guy who had helpful info tying A.L.Allen to the "Zodiac", when in reality, it seems that Don Cheney may have been MUCH MORE INVOLVED than he (in the film) let on. WATCH IT !!!!!!

The movie didn't do well because the information contained in it was a dumpster fire. It especially didn't catch on after it's release because the FBI files related to the case were released to the public which lead to more FOIA requests to the police departments themselves. One shining thing came through this series of events: Robert G. Smith jr. (Robert Graysmith)had access to sensitive information before anybody else did and he LIED about most of it. This isn't even remotely debatable. This isn't a question of maybe or maybe not...this is fact. It is also fact that Robert G Smith jr was sued by the Allen family and settled out of court and the reason for the settlement out of court is so that there would be no judgement on record and public transcript showing exactly how much of a liar Graysmith is. You'd think you'd want to give Allen his day in court one way or another with all the hardcore "facts" you've got and have all of your claims put to the test in a court of law which would have definitely been done...but then you decide to drop it in order to protect your ability to sell books. No.

I think it may be that they didn't give it even a nomination to upset the Zodiac killer/s to try to catch him ...in much of middle America it was brutally cold when it came out in March

The thirty -seven he claimed, may be, in reality, three plus seven. He liked cryptic messages. Three being Cheri jo Bates in '66 and two on the beach in '63. Ten total if we include the surviving two victims.

wasn't in the the movie because there were 3 people there that night. 2 are dead. the other is the killer. anything else is imagined. how does this guy know they lovingly held hands?

I think the details about the date were presented that way in Graysmith's "Zodiac," which was as you say, unattributable nonsense.

Hey, Mr. Based on a True Story Podcast, I wish to make clear that all the statements you have made in this video about the movie NOT being a commercial success is inaccurate. According to Wikipedia, the movie made $84.8 million at the box office. Which is about $19.8 million over its budget of $65 million. So you might wanna redo this video with this fact corrected.

I know I'm late to the party but wanted to add something to the mix. One of my good friends is Darleens nephew. Steve Jr never met his aunt because his mom Linda Del Buno was still pregnant when she was murdered. Linda' s name is on the refrigerator in the movie. It's the woman who he talks to in jail. They made a mistake in the movie using the last name Del Buno. She was already divorced from her husband Steve at that point. Linda was in jail for killing a person in a crosswalk... Driving drunk... To a court ordered AA meeting. I think the writers missed an oppertunity to add that info to the movie!!! But then again, they didn't want to discredit everything she had to say about her sisters stalker. Another thing the movie didn't talk about was Darleen was married... And that wasn't her husband in the car with her. That caused some small town drama for years to come. Imagine Darleens husband finding out THAT way that his wife was cheating and was killed by the Zodiac... In the words of Steve Del Buno Sr... " The Zodiac got the wrong sister!!! "

I would not recommend any of Graysmiths books as they have been proven to be full of inaccuracies and just straight up BS. if you want just the facts I would recommend anything by Michael Butterfield, and the books on the Zodiac by Mark Hewitt.

There also many incident in other cities that happened to other people that happened to zodiac victims like a couple on the beach where the killer burnt down the Shaq like the two at the lake or a lady who was also drove around for hours like that lady with her baby in Modesto

Hey I like your channel but right around 3 minutes in I was turned off because of your characterization of Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday. Betty Lou had been dating a guy named Ricky before David and in fact Ricky was one of the main suspects in the case because he and David had a beef over Betty and Ricky was being creepy towards Betty Lou and was making threats. This is all established in the police reports which are easily accessible online. Anyway, best of luck. I like your voice and the music beds.

He may have. Unfortunately there have been multiple people who have confessed, including many in private just before dying, etc. I think all of the possible suspects and confessions have only helped fuel the mystery.
