DC was using a slightly higher gloss cover stock the month Flash #223 came out in '73 than they had at times, for example some of the '72 covers were just *slightly* rougher. That helped the colors "pop." In your video at 7:37, I recommend those Dollar Comics issues of Adventure, especially that one (#466, 1979) -- which has a great Justice Society story...! I had a free mail subscription to Adventure at the time. It was the last Dollar issue, I was SO disappointed when the next issue arrived and the title changed to regular size. Stuff like the JSA and Deadman were gone. 😢

Thanks for sharing! That's super interesting and good to know! I love those 20 cent covers, and I knew there was something different about that. I'll keep those dollar books in mind. Are they original stories, or mostly reprints out of curiosity?

@@Gotham_n_glam All new stories in DC's Dollar Comics with few exceptions. The Adventure issues had no reprints, although the initial stories of some features like New Gods, JSA, and Deadman by Aparo were originally intended for titles that got canned in the DC Implosion. Jenette Kahn was not really a fan of reprints, so when the Dollar Comics launched in '77 the emphasis was "All New." The exceptions that come to mind: Original Swamp Thing Saga #3 & 4 contained reprints, and several Superman Specials ran stories first printed in Germany around the same time. So when you find Bronze Age Dollar Comics, you are getting then-new stuff. My allowance back then was $1 per week, so I wasn't buying as many as I'd have liked! I had saved cash from Xmas etc. though so I went after Superman Family, WF, and later Detective. Not too much House of Mystery or GI Combat though. I still go for them to this day: just bought a sweet World's Finest at Half Price Books for $1.50. So happy!

Batman Annual 8 is a favorite of mine from when I was a kid. It remains one of my favorite Batman stories. And I still have it Great pick! The art on that issue and the writing was really worthy of the annual format. Most mid to late '80s DC annuals are great reads.

Haven't been up to Queen City in quite awhile. Always stopped at their other store when they were open. Gonna have to get up there soon. Saw some nice books you were flipping through. You picked up some great stuff. Can't beat those prices either.

Aquaman in the Silver Age,Nick Cardy covers and interiors and little bit later Steve Skeates/Jim Aparo! All these guys are very underrated in my opinion! Enjoy your enthusiasm and interest in the Silver and Bronze Age !
