No microphone, just straight belting. Singing over the band, now that's power.

"A STAR IS BORN" is the movie. Starring Judy Garland and James Mason. A classic and very much worthy of watching. As wonderful as Judy sounds singing this her strength as a performer was to perform live in front of audiences. She was loved by millions of people from around the world.

Love Judy Garland, by the way Sceez, Judy is Liza Minnelli's mom. Judy starred in the famous movie Wizard of Oz. Makes me want to go and watch an old black and white movie from back in the day! 💕💕💕💕

From the movie, A Star Is Born. The movie has been done four or five times over the years. This was the second movie version, each with their own songs. Judy Garland was amazing.

Judy Garland was the greatest live performer of all time. Her beautiful, and special voice gets me through my turbulent bio polar day.

For musicals they recorded the songs first and then they'd lipsync to them for filming. Just would have them turn up the sound as loud as it would go and she would try to sing over it. She did not just lipsync to the music being played. She actually sang those songs. So happy you love her talent!

Judy had been the preeminent female musical star of the 40's but overwork and an addiction to prescription medication (developed under the power of MGM studios to keep her weight down and her energy up...widespread prescriptive drugs were still rather new and their addictive properties not completely understood by the time the powers that be became aware it was too late and she was hooked) led to her firing in 1950. This version of A Star is Born (the first musical treatment of the material) was her comeback and she was nominated for Best Actress and should have won but studio tinkering with the release print leading to the removal of important parts of the picture caused the film to not do as well as it should have. It has since been restored to near its original form though some parts are lost. This song which was written especially for her became one of her signature numbers along with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" also written for her in The Wizard of Oz. A legendary and massive talent reportedly one of the most compelling live performers ever, she has many wonderful songs to explore. I'd recommend her rendition of "Old Man River" from her 1960's television variety show. But there are many others.

I wish these people would do aa research before "reacting" to singers . And I'm often stunned at just how little they know.
