I reckon it's better to be at peace with being unattractive. Physical beauty is a poisoned chalice. It's hard to hold discreetly, it makes other people extremely acquisitive (if not downright ready to kill to have ownership), it inspires ferocious resentment in those that don't have it, there's a tendency to think the bearer IS their chalice (and nothing more) to the extent that the bearer might start to believe it. Beauty leaves scars on the beautiful. I look at it as being that I'm somebody who would prefer to have a beautiful view than be the beautiful view. If I had the choice - to live in a slum, where all the windows are looking at meadows, or to live in the meadow and all I could see was slum - I'd be in my slum gazing out the windows all day! That's the happier way to be, I think.

Precisely! Excellent point. Anything criminal having to do with sex between male and female has always been a black mark against the female because women were regarded either as sexless angels or sex-lusting beasts. Apparently while they were walking in Central Park they got into an argument over his drug use, when she mentioned she had to the bathroom and asked him to hold her purse. While she was occupied, he went through it, found her wallet, and was taking the $$ out when she returned and caught him. She was furious and accused him of stealing, and he just snapped.

If the medical evidence proved that Jennifer had been strangled to death, then I fail to understand why the court could accept his account that she may have died when he just threw her to the ground in self-defence. Was he hinting that someone may have later come along & strangled her - if that was the medically-proven cause of death? But if he was only standing/sitting 100 feet away from where he had left her body - how could something like that have happened without him seeing them do that. And if that did happen - surely he would have told the police - as they could have investigated to try & find that other person who supposedly strangled Jennifer. The actions & verdict of the jury do not seem to make a lot of sense in this case.

@@TheMattTrakker I agree that that's probably how the jury saw it (or her alledged behavior was enough for them), but I don't think so - apparently she was strangled, which takes several minutes (and the victim, meaning her in this case, passes out before suffocating), so that is not self-defence anymore (and also does not stem from being "thrown")

I remember the case when it happened. It seemed like the press victim shamed Jennifer Levin. If the prosecution had been able to use his juvenile record, Chambers might have been found guilty within a few hours of jury deliberations. At the time, I never bought his story.

The 1980s were a wild time, particularly when it came to sex and cocaine. The "jury of peers" probably all had various experiences with both and that's why they couldn't deliver the unanimous guilty verdict. With the drugs currently on the street, he won't last long if he's still using.

Dear Dr Grande, It's sad that he did not use the opportunity of a top class education. Rather he used his looks to further his agenda of drugs and sex. After jail time he returned to drug use and exploiting others. Fantastic analysis to which complimentary humor was added.

Probably made to think he could get away with it due to the shallow adoration his hunky looks got him. Without consequences, many would take a similar path.

It's interesting how, 37 years later, victim shaming still goes on. If a young woman happens to be promiscuous and/or into rough sex, that appears to lessen the crime of murder!? 🙄

Point is, if you live like that, you take unnecessary risks. NOT saying it’s OK to blame a victim, only that some life choices increase the chances you’ll become a victim.
@reneethorn145 Жыл бұрын
@@nhmooytis7058 that's true, but it's not relevant to the court case. The defense attorney destroyed her reputation and she wasn't there to defend herself. Imagine that happening to a family member. It's bad enough that your loved one has been taken from you, violently, but then you have to sit and listen to that? The defendant is the one on trial, not the deceased!

Unfortunately, this is the way life works. The younger and more attractive one is the better one is treated. I've seen this play out over and over again. If you are good looking guys fall all over themselves trying to assist you. If you are not or older they won't. If you are good-looking and drive a luxury car the attention even increases. I worked with an attractive (for her age 60-year-old) who drove an old clunker or fliver of a car. She didn't get treated nearly as well when she sought customer service as the younger more beautiful girls who worked for the same company who drove nice cars. Guys practically tripped over themselves to help us but ignored her. She always seemed to have to wait three times as long for assistance. It's very sad how society judges people based on youth and looks but sadly that's how it is. Police officers tend not to give traffic tickets out to a beautiful woman. Many become tongue-tied and end up saying, "Have a nice day" as if they suddenly forgot why they stopped you in the first place. Beautiful women receive more feigns of interest from doctors and attorneys and rich men too. They can basically get whatever they want. Beauty and looks does receive special treatment which is no doubt the case in this case. He might be completely evil on the inside but all they saw was his exterior. It's unbelievable that they blamed the victim instead of the killer. If he had looked like the devil himself he no doubt would have gotten life which is what he deserved.
@ba9898 Жыл бұрын
What I noticed was, when I watched him actually speaking, his attractiveness faded dramatically. There was nothing there. In an analogy, there are many, many men and women with movie-star looks, but only a few have talent, and depth. Examples: Amber Heard, Troy Donahue. Very good-looking, but actually unattractive!
@dissidentfairy4264 Жыл бұрын
I agree that physical attractiveness only goes so far. For me intelligence and personality are more important than looks. Kindness and compassion are for sure. Physical attraction is the icing on the cake. Finances are of zero importance to me. I've always been more attracted to the underdog. lol 🧚♀ @@ba9898
