Wtf1: please name all eight(8) mistakes where max verstappen was 100% at fault... Can't any of you four remember vettel's big mistakes in the last 2 years alone, i can surely name a few big one's who a 4 time world champ shouldn't be making!! Also funny nobody of the four of you mentioning max is leading daniel 5-3 in qualy..... wonder why though.. maybe its because danny is known to be a qualy beast, but max is taming him and beating him there pretty big in numbers

Bottas didn't get a penalty in Baku en Barcelona last year when he ruined the races of Kimi an Max so 5 seconds for Vettel is enough.

You couldnt give bottas a penalty in Spain for that accident because he was too cautious into turn one (its like saying hey! You are trying to award an incident but take a penalty). Baku was fine but the kerb was too high so when bottas hit it he just slid wide into kimi. Compared to vettel who just locked up due to his own mistake and killed bottas' race (Verstappan got 10 seconds for hitting riccy)

McBaron yes it does In spain Bottas was too cautious into turn one which caused the accident. You cannot give a driver a penalty for being too cautious therefore it was a racing incident Baku, Bottas was side by side with kimi, he ended up hitting a raised inside curb which slid him into kimi. Thats a racing incident as well

When you're talking about Max cutting the chicane at turn 1 at the start; he started 4th and Vettel and Bottas collided making them drop back which pushed Max to 2nd so he didn't actually gain any places. When he rejoined the track he was alongside Hamilton and then let Hamilton go past again because he was initially in 2nd place.

I think he should not have been penalised. Bottas' race was ruined, but it was a racing incident. It's not totally Vettel's fault, because when he locks up he can't control his car. Of course he could also brake earlier, but when you follow another car there is no grip.

slikrx Not sure if you saw the view of Vettels onboard. He breaked earlier than he should've, but then went a bit on the gas again, saw Hamilton slowing down and then he locked up, crashing into Bottas. 5 seconds is actually fair, considering that it was almost impossible to avoid the crash at the point, where he slowed down the first time.

Hungary 2017. At the second corner Verstappen crashed into Ricciardo who couldn't even finish the race. Verstappen got a 10-second penalty.... Bottas could finish the race.... so yes.... 5-second penalty is enough....

Bottas finished lap 1 about 30 seconds (that is a guess) behind Vettel, that gap that was made due to the puncture and was caused by Vettel, that time should have been the penalty given. Obviously not after the race is finished and seeing how far down the order Bottas finished but working out the actual time lost compared to Vettel which was after lap 1 and before any effort of the drivers was made.

Max was mocking the media (press, journalists) because they, and a lot of amateur commentators in the net, make huge fuzz about small human errors. And keep going on about it in repeating the same questions, suggestions and advice over and over and over again. He was simply, jokingly putting the press in its place. Almost accusing them of producing FAKE NEWS. I think it was ironic, funny, mature, brave and refreshing. Lewis liked it a lot!

do you remember when Alonso was still at Ferrari and Hamilton overtook the safty car? he got a drive through penalty 20 LAPS later!!!!! and there was no point of the panalty. because he overtook the SC so he gained the time 2-3 times from the SC. also he took the penalty 20 laps later so after the SC left the track, he had time to build a huge gap from the drivers behind...that penalty was a joke, not Vettel 's. do you remember Max 's penalty at China? it was a worse (or at least same) incident and he got 10 seconds. not much difference from 5 to 10. soooo......

The main problem with F1 is that us fans are satisfied with it being the same three teams year after year after year winning. Not just the hybrid era, but the Red Bull dominance, early Ferrari dominance in ‘00-04. The sport should not have eras of dominance. No other sports league in the world has that. In America, our major sports, apart from the NBA, has a different winner every year. F1 needs that. Renault this year, Ferrari next, Red Bull after that, Haas after that, Force India after them. But it’s not possible in a league like this. And it never will be due to the structure of F1. F1 needs rebuilt from the ground up, but that isn’t possible now.

Imma tell you: Bottas Hamilton Vettel. It's one of the tracks where Bottas is actually a good driver and not just in the fastest car. Hamilton is not in it this season, he won't be in front of Bottas except when Mercedes has some nice orders for Valtteri. And I feel like neither Red Bull nor Ferrari will be competitive this weekend. And as much as I would love for Lewis to have some DIFFICULTY for once, he's just always lucky with incidents and stuff.
@imhotep2223
@imhotep2223 6 жыл бұрын
It was 100% Vettel's fault for not getting it slowed down in time. Bottas left plenty of room. It's entirely possible (had the collision unfolded differently) for Vettel to have not sustained any damage but Bottas to still have been dropped to the back of the field. In that situation Vettel would likely have finished 2nd or 3rd despite a 5s penalty and Bottas 6th at best. Hardly fair, is it? If Bottas hadn't had floor damage the 5s could have been enough to drop Vettel behind him in this case, but it wouldn't have done if Vettel hadn't also had to pit to fix damage - and clearly a driver shouldn't escape punishment just because they've already hurt themselves. If you commit a foul in football it's still a freekick/penalty even if you injure yourself doing it. The stewards should take into account the context of the incident within the race, and if a driver has caused another to lose more places they should be penalised more heavily. Vettel's penalty was the same as Hulkenberg got for cutting a chicane to overtake Perez in Abu Dhabi last year - but his actions cost Bottas 16 places (and it would've been 18 plus most of a lap if Ocon and Gasly hadn't crashed to bring out the SC), whereas Perez only lost 1. It makes a mockery of the sport if a driver can benefit from breaking the rules. If you want to prevent that possibility then the penalty should be sufficient to put the offender behind the car he's wronged, just like giving a position back if you cut a chicane. Depending on damage he might easily re-pass, but that's beyond the stewards' control. You can never stop a driver deliberately taking someone else out, but the penalty for that is a permanent stain on your character - see M Schumacher. In this situation Vettel has got away with it basically unpunished, and he and Ferrari have benefited relative to Bottas and Mercedes. Imagine if he'd done this to Hamilton - he would have extended his championship lead!

You can't set Penalties based on what Lewis Ham or Merc says.. Because when they make mistakes we all should become a saint and we all should forgive them, because they are our heroes and mistakes happen, but Incase of Vettel or Max, they are angels and if they commit mistake they should be hanged to death.. because they are danger and life threat to other people(Merc drivers) on the track.. How ridiculous and stupid people can become.. It's a turn 1 incident first of all and Vet was in the slipstream and also did lock up, and turn 1s are always caos. Now according to Ham if Bottas forgot driving after that should vet finish behind him even then?... what a stupid comment that is by Lewis Ham, I never expected it from him and neither do I expect this from someone like you people.. cheers.. (It's just from my point of view.)

Vettel's effective 'penalty' also negated by Safety Car being called out for turn 4 incident. Had the incident not happened and normal racing speed in effect, it would have been harder for him to claw back the 30-40 second (maybe even a lap down) gap from the back of the field, without it.

I think when it comes to stuff like this you have to imagine how people will take advantage of it. If you start to impose that a penalty should always have a visible effect on results people will take advantage, say Hamilton get a penalty in Quali and starts at the back but fights through and wins the race do Ferrari have the right to appeal the win and push him down to 12th because that's what the penalty is for. No, they should get a penalty based on purely the incident, ignore what team the racer is with. Just did this driver make a decision that risked the safety of others in the interest of gaining position, if its a small mistake: 5 seconds, big stupid mistake: 10-15 seconds, forcing a dodgy move to fit: drive through, going for a gap that doesn't exist/purposely hitting someone: black flag. Weither its for 1st or 21st breaking the same rule should get the same penalty.

When Verstappen t-boned Vettel at the hairpin in China and didn’t get penalised for having ruined his race about halfway through, nobody complained. So why the fuck are all these Mercedes fanboys throwing shit at Vettel like he should’ve been black flagged and stuff like that? Sebastian misjudged the braking point because he was a lot faster than Hamilton, and even tho Vallteri didn’t leave him space I think that still was Vettel’s fault. He didn’t do that on purpose and apologised. He was handed a penalty taking into consideration the situation of the incident, and 5 seconds is fair, you can’t give someone more of a penalty just because he’s fast and you wanna ruin his race at all costs. So guys please don’t talk shit about someone because you don’t like him, and give your opinion on things being fair and respectful.

I think, it's only mclaren's fault. When you look at the speed through sectors and on the speed traps, you see McLaren on the bottom of the list even with Renault engine. Mclaren blamed honda for a bad engine to not damage the brand of McLaren that much. Yes, the engines were unreliable and thirsty during a race. But I don't think, it was not powerful enough. As a better example is Williams. They have engine from mercedes and still, due to poor aero and possibly the chassis, they are last. So people usually started to forget how important role play part the aero and chassis. Honda is getting better and they will challenge Ferrari and Mercedes with red bull next year.

To the Vettel Thing : Given the Situation everyone was in. I think of course Vettel hit Bottas, so yea he is at fault, but, I personally think bottas could have braked later, Vettel could've breaked earlier, Bottas could have left more room going into the corner towards the right. I think it's just a Race accident, nothing special. Yea Vettel is in a Ferrari and got to the field faster, because the Mercedes is better driving in front, and ferrari works better in bad air. Of course it sucks for bottas, no doubt. But I genuinely think that it was a Race accident and we have seen stuff like that before, it's just due to Vettel and Hamilton being so close, and him not feeling good about how Vettel got to come back.

On the Alonos to IndyCar 1. The team does not matter as much as f1 so he should not care too much. Maybe he could help juncos racing which is a new team also Chevy powered so no Honda issue. 2. The speedway has to choose him to win even if it's superstitious just look at the Andretti curse since 1969. 3. He does not have the practice in the new chassis unlike everyone else in the field but Hinchcliffe

Lewis Fan here, and Vettels punishment was fair, maybe on another day he might have got away with that one. Shouldn't have been more. Really unfortunate for Bottas, but again, on another day, he might have got away with no damage and finished ahead of Seb. U cant go around punishing drivers based on the damage the other team are reporting, or based on what corner it happened at. Had it been in the last corner, Bottas gets less damage getting back to the pits. U have to be consistent with the punishment fitting the crime, The after effect, and final result isn't part of that process, the collision and whos fault it is. Sucks that Vettel finished ahead but theres no evidence that he wouldn't have anyway, Look at Lewis/Vettel in Baku, should Vettel have got another penalty because Lewis head rest came loose, no, what if Vettels engine went, does that make the penalty ok coz he didn't finish anyway. No. U cant go punishing Vettel more than say Grosjean based on the Fact Vettels cars faster so its easier to make up places either. Theres an arguements sure to say Vettel was at the back due to his own damage not the penalty where Bottas was at the back because of Vettel but Vettel wasn't even over aggressive, He had too good a start, got boxed in with no where to go, lost front end, locked up. It was a mistake and in hindsight, perhaps should have backed out earlier, but these are super committed drivers and u don't win world championships by backing out. 5 Seconds was the correct penalty.

That is a problem i really don't like about the racingsports in general (espacially cause i am a perfectionist) and it really is a stupid thing to know that you can get runied by mistakes someone else did. Why not yellow flag the race and give bottas his position back? Okay, this would maybe cause some problems with the wheels but in this case it was only one round on thos tyres ^^ or at least some positions. huh its so difficult to solve this :/ but rigth now that means, that if like ham is first, vet second, its like whoever finisches infornt of the other wins wordl cup. You just drive him a flaz tyre, change your frontwing and will get away cos he is so much shlower than you with his broken tyre that a 5-10 sec penalty wouldn't do it. what then? they are not allowed to react on his speed or the drivers or the relationchip to the points :o

I think the Vettel penalty should have been split in 2 parts. 1 He should have to let bottas pass again behind safty car 2 10 second penalty (if that even is a thing. only heard of 5 or 10 with stop and go before) In the end he probably would have still been 5th, but that would have felt more fair in my opinion

Max got 5 seconds in China, and that wasn't even a turn one accident. Since turn one accidents are meant to be treated with more leniency, perhaps 5 seconds was too much? Seriously though, 5 seconds was consistent with other incidents of this nature, and as a lot of people have pointed out, many drivers have made similar mistakes in recent history who weren't penalised at all. I think this is a non-issue, which Mercedes and Hamilton fans in particular are making a big deal out of, as they tend to when it concerns one of their rivals. But what can you do? Most of their fans are bandwagoneering children anyway, so there's no point arguing.

I love how drivers and fans of said drivers only bring this up when their rival get involved in a incident. Perhaps a drive through is a better penalty than the 5 seconds, perhaps we should return to the 10 sec stop and go, but at the moment the 5 second time/stop and go penalty is the norm for most of collisions . We can't just change the rules mid championship without generating injustices.

if you look at other incidents, 5 sec is the standard punishment for similar lap 1 incidents. It didnt make a difference, but say vettel was on pace to beat the red bulls, that penalty would've have been decisive. Consiidering the penalty on its own, 5 seconds was fair

the thing with a harsher penalty is that those penalties have to be associated with some sort of major fault at the driver. for example at baku 2017 vettel has given a 10 second stop/go for intentionally crashing so harsher penalties have to have some sort of observable intent in them. this accident was if anything avoidable contact so no harsh penalty should be given. for giving out penalties it should matter how much the other party was effected by the mistake or how the end result stands. no matter what way you put it vettel just drove the better race here and if bottas had driven well the 5 second penalty would have been enough to give him the position although i do think a 10 second time penalty would probably have been more appropriate here. also the "damage" is just a cheap excuse. if that "damage" was so bad he would not have done the fastest lap of the race

I think they should actually implement a new rule: if you crash into another driver so he has to go into the pits you have to go as well, doesn't matter if you have damage or not and have to wait until his damage is repaired and leave the pits behind the driver which race you ruined. That way you still have a chance of finishing in front of him but right after the incident you are behind him and don't gain an advantage if you got less severe damage from the crash. Obviously if you take out another driver the way that he can't finish the race you get a time- or drive-throughpenalty instead of not finishing either. This is only the basic rule so don't be like "and what if this or that happens"
