Ouch! Zach was not only pressured, but hit on 52% of passing plays? It's remarkable he's doing as well as he is, although agree he needs to throw the ball away more (he's still learning). Just think how much better the O will be once OL is healthy.

Not only was the offensive line horrendous at pass blocking, they were awful at run blocking. Zach led the game with 25 yards rushing. That's simply unacceptable.

Also the play calling is atrocious. They never throw the ball over the top of the defense with go routes which even if they don't connect at least will keep the defense honest and loosen up the interior. I really thought Hackett was gonna be better than this.

If Aaron Rodgers was healthy and started that game against the Giants, and had Tom Brady as QB2 and Zach at QB3, then Zach would have still won the game in the 4th qrtr and OT as both Aaron and Brady would have been annihilated by Dexter Lawrence and Kayvon and been getting X-Rays or been in concussion protocol by the 3rd quarter. We never slowed down either one of them. Zach showed amazing escapability, and also the toughness to take a hit to make a play. The OT pass interference on the "underthrown" ball occurred because Zach was hit as he was throwing the ball. The ball he grounded in the dirt to Breece, was a bad throw but that was an obvious wet ball issue, and Breece may have dropped it anyway if it was on target. Zach has had 3 games at "Wet" Life stadium that have had constant rain ( Pats, Eagles, Giants ), but on a dry field against the Chiefs he outplayed Mahomes. If we had a dome stadium his stats would be great. Aaron throws his touch passes softer than other QBs due to his great anticipation, so his ball is easier to catch, and it looks like Randall Cobb and Lazard can only catch softly thrown balls and have been living off of Aaron's unique precision, unless their repetitive drops with the Jets are due to the wet conditions. Zach can develop that precision as he has the brain to think quick enough, he just needs more time to evolve. Luckily for Zach, the Jets OL is providing him with the worst protection in the league, so he is going through the crucible of war and if he survives, we will have a diamond in the rough come playoff time.
@ladistar7 ай бұрын
You’re a 1diot, it’s far from the worst protection in the league, it’s easily top 15. Learn the game of football you dope.

i was watching this game with my brother. we were talking football and i told him that in every football game i've watched this year, there were plays run WITHOUT blocking the defense's best player. and guess what? 90% of the time that player made the play. i mean really, how in the world do OC's make such a stupid mistake?
@hermanc90007 ай бұрын
Agree
@RealisticJetsFan7 ай бұрын
Do you actually watch the games? Do you hear the commentary? ZW holds the ball too long! He locks in on one WR and that’s it. He can’t process information quickly and can’t look off defenders. The game is simply too fast for him. Rodgers accesses information so quickly he knows his reads before the play even starts. It’s night and day!!!
@Sharp_Instincts7 ай бұрын
@@RealisticJetsFan Listening to the commentary of Charles Davis, Tiki B, or Matt Ryan just gives you their opinion and these guys just mail it in, especially Davis (an alltime know nothing). You need to judge the plays yourself and not be swayed by the commentary unless it comes from an objective QB analyst who prepares before the weekend, like Romo or Aikman or Brady when he stops laughing at the Belichick demise. The current sorry state of the Jets OL does not coordinate at all with road crowd noise, and the recent home games in NJ have had steady rain. So Zach hasn't had conditions that QBs get on the West Coast or in domes. I agree he stares down a receiver on occasion and misses a TE, but we are not in the huddle, Garrett may tell him on certain routes that I have this guy set up so look my way. And all QBs miss seeing open receivers every game. I like Zach and think he is a budding superstar and a SB MVP and that sways my opinion, you don't like him and think he is a bust and that sways you the other way. So we both need to see the season play out more, I would like to see a game with no dropped passes and see what happens in that game.
@jonathanrichter42567 ай бұрын
Everyone. myself included, thought we were just a QB away from being great. The truth is we were a QB, a WR, and an OL away. And possibly still an OC away. I think Zach is playing fine. The play-calling sucks, the O line, given its health, is a disaster, and outside of GW there aren't any other targets that consistently get open for Zach. Add in the awful weather on Sunday and it's amazing he can complete any throws. Looking forward to a bounce back vs the Chargers.

@TheHighlanderprime7 ай бұрын
@@tmozzz Outside the defense, the team simply isn’t good. And the coaching staff including Saleh, is still learning on Zach’s time. So the issues go way beyond ZW’s stats in the league. It’s been a team effort as opposed to the developing QB being just bad.

Luke, the fan base can not put this horrendous last game all on Zach. First and foremost, the O- line was atrocious. The Receivers weren't getting separation, and when they did, we had dropped passes. To many damn penalties, Some more stupid than others. We had no Run game. And to top everything else off, the weather was crazy. Let's not cover the Sun with one finger. Zach needs to improve more. And let's not forget Hackett and his play calling. My God, we're in week nine and Hack is still having a hard time scheming guys open. What I did love most was the two minute drill that was ran. Play break down is phenomenal. When Zach got sacked with about 2 min left in the 4th I thought it was over. I went to that dark place saying we about to go 3-4. Wasted another low scoring game by the defense. Zach just has to combine all the struggles he has had and put to use the success he has created for final drives to help us win the game. I think he has a chance to be far better then the haters and doubters of the world think he is. Not saying top 10 QB but good enough to help the team win. He still doesn't have an O-line that he can say has protected him for 2 weeks in a row yet. Need to make plays earlier in the game to take some of the weight off the defense. I think if we do that the defense will elevate to an even higher level. Zach needs to be a contributor not the answer.

I watch all the tape and every throw. I see a QB locked on one receiver on every play. I see wide open receivers on every play. I detail this on my channel. I watched ZW in college and nothing at all has changed. I ask and ask my fellow fans for explanations and just get criticized. Will one person tell me how a team with a top WR and RB can’t score? Before anyone blames the line I beg you to watch the tape and you will see and hear commentary how ZW holds the ball too long and missed wide open receivers.

Love this breakdown Luke! His numbers could and should have been 300+, right? Imagine what even a small running game could do. AR should be more involved in the game planning. Agree? Keep up the amazing content! My fav Jets podcast by far. Cheers!

Great video breakdown. I love all the camera angles - especially from above/behind so we see what the defense is giving him to read. Agree 100% about Rogers being there on the sidelines. He's the QB coach they've lacked forever. Having a young QB learn from his favorite player, that situation doesn't happen very often. Aaron likes teaching too. So the pairing is really positive. Wilson has led the team to 3 victories in the 4th quarter. That's often overlooked. He's still young and has more to learn but growth is happening and victories are the results. For the most part the game was brutal to watch. Morstead probably had to ice his leg down and take a few days off to recover from all the punts he made. He was terrific. I don't think I've seen 3 punts land inside the 10 in a single game before. Looking forward to this week's game and your breakdown of it next week.

I've said ALL YEAR Zach, has played great. It's not as if he is getting incrementally better, he has been great ALL YEAR. I have been unmercifully humiliated by Jets KZbinrs. I have evaluated EVERY pass from the first, not as knowledgeable as you, I could see and would argue repeatedly that he was playing "Mahomes good" all year -- including in Dallas. And even the box scores have supported this. He has been statistically identical to ALL QB's he has played head to head this year: Allen, Mahomes, Prescott, Hurts, Russel, Jones, the Giants. Opposing QB average: 21-33 184 yards 1 TD 1 INT. Zach Wilson's average: 18-31 171 yards 1 TD 1 INT. Avr opponent defensive rank 13.7 Jets defensive rank 14

He has played great with that offensive line. Believe me by now if that offensive line was a sieve like it has been Aaron Rogers wouldn't have been able to stay healthy due to his age. Oh! Yep he didn't stand up to the pressure. That's the point that should be made. Very few QBs would do better under this offensive line.@@mgtow-balance3409

The head-to-head QB numbers say more about the Jets D, imo. Zach played at Mahomes' level in THAT game, or rather, Mahomes played down to Zach's level because of the Jets D. On the season, Mahomes is ranked No. 2 out of all QBs and Zach is ranked No. 28, down at the bottom where he has been for his entire career.
@davet24597 ай бұрын
Though I certainly wouldn't jump to great he has played more than adequately and considering the o-line and his lame OC holding him back he has done quite well. The reality is that it is hard to play QB for some teams in some towns... and there is a reason that teams like the Jets, the Browns, the Bears haven't had a truly great QB for decades because those towns with the poor weather and wind factors make playing QB extremely difficult and problematic. Time will perhaps tell if Rodgers can succeed there if and when he plays but for now history tells us that he will look far worse than most ppeople seem to expect.
@rawbfish93557 ай бұрын
I liked your review a lot. People don’t realize that Mahomes has below 50% days and no one says a thing. Zach does and it’s the end of the world - even when he makes clutch throws to win it.

Yep, it’s easy to just go along with the box score. Plenty of positives and the big drive to tie it!

ZW has been shit for 3 years. The team has finished in last place every season he’s been here. He might end up being the biggest draft bust. SMFH

Great stuff, thanks. Add to the fact the running game couldn't gain a yard and it was a monsoon and that's a terrific performance. Compare and contrast to the Giants passing game, which had negative yards in those conditions.

@@PlayLikeAJet Heh Luke - I still have faith in Zach, but if the game plan doesn't open up, it won't happen Against Raiders in 1st half, we ran on 9 first downs, we passed on 4, on those 4 Zach was 3 for 3 for about 60 yards and with 1 grounding penalty. In 2nd half, Zach went 7 for 9 on 1st down passes, until the hail mary's started getting thrown. Uzomah stopped 2 drives with penalties, Huff's pers foul gave the Raiders 3 points, Michael Carter per foul took away a first down in the 2nd half, Lazard quit on a Go Route when he had his man beat, Lazard did not come back to meet the ball on the interception. They are good enough to blow these teams out, I think Saleh is at heart a ground and pound guy and is shutting down the offense, but we don't run well on 1st down with the current OL, we need to wear them out with alternating short and long passes, and use the run after the drive has had a few first downs.
@jerrycurls887 ай бұрын
Another great breakdown video Luke! Without the all-22 during the game, it definitely seemed like he was not as accurate. You have to wonder what he would do if they open up the offense and let him throw earlier in the game. It would help Breece too. He was bottled up since the Giants didnt respect the pass at all.
@PlayLikeAJet7 ай бұрын
Yep, TV is so hard. Especially when the commentators and producers control a lot of the narrative. I wish the playcalling was better!
@jessejordache18697 ай бұрын
The television games don't show you enough, and it's still too hard to keep track of. With all-22 you can look at a pass that was catchable but not necessarily a dime, and it goes from questionable to a great throw, because the second time around you notice that he's got Xavier Newman in his lap.

Excellent breakdown. If Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, etc. had done this in these conditions (terrible weather, multiple drops, OL allowing THIRTY pressures), they'd be lauded for a heroic performance. Zach hasn't been perfect, but he's much improved and it's fair to wonder what he can look like with a better OL and/or when he finally gets that full year sitting behind Rodgers.

For those ppl saying we didn't need to grab another receiver, Alan Lazard in this game proves we do. Yes the o-line is rough but at receiver, Garrett is basically option A, B, and C right now because we can't truly rely on any other wideout.

Luke, curious as to what you think about going more tempo/no huddle? Zach seems to thrive when playing fast, and there are so many occasions during games when the Jets O needs something, anything, to get going. Of course it's not realistic to use it "a lot", but not sure why it can't be strategically deployed each game in critical moments when something has to ignite the engine. It's frustrating that Hackett won't do it.

Am completely with you. Give me tempo, first down passes and PA. That’s all I want in life

I've noticed it much recently as early as the Pats game that something about Zach was different Against the Patriots he would usually struggle in the turnover department, nope no picks, no fumbles nothin However the combination of noone being open all game and pressure did him dirty And this game, the pressure kept comin and Zach hung in there so, I think he's gotten alot better now that Aaron Rodgers has been around to mentor and now that we actually have an OC... Kinda

Thank you for this excellent analysis. I have heard other podcasts that have completely destroyed ZW for this game. Jake Asman for one, which I didn’t agree with before I looked at the film. I was at the game and I felt like you before seeing the film. Now you gave me proof. This was one of his best games and I have been killing ZW for a while now. I do think he is turning the corner. I am praying that his is a redemption story because I love those.

The Jets Defense will keep the score low. So, Zac doesn't have to be amazing. He has to be good enough. And damnit, he is. As it stands now, this season is a testament to Zac's character and grit. I'm here for it.

As a longtime Jets fan, who has really struggled to see past Zach's glaring mistakes, this video was helpful. I'm hopeful for the future, but what about the Hackett problem? I imagine Rodgers won't let us replace him, but I agree 100% that this scheming isnt helping at all, even if the more immediate problem is the OL performance with injuries and such.

I think what matters most when evaluating a young QB's play is: what are the tangible improvements over time? And I think that despite what the numbers tell you, Zach Wilson is showing signs of improvement over the course of the season. I'm still not sure if he will become the franchise QB that his high draft pick would imply, but I do think that the improvement on film and the likely influence of AR18 on his development is real.
