Useful reminder video for a keen amateur like me who only does these jobs occasionally. I tend to use silicon sealant on all the sink fittings where they joint to the ceramic, including the tap and plughole fitting. Where I’ve just trusted to the rubber seals in the past I’ve had problems. I only use plumbers mate on the threaded water pipe fittings. Also on a basin like that a lot of them have a couple of fixing holes for screwing to the wall so you need to get a pair of basin wall fixing screws (a threaded stud with a plastic screw fixing that clamps the basin back to the wall). Once the cabinet and basin are fitted you also need to silicon joint the gap to the wall. I don’t do soldered joints so I either use compression fittings or push fit fittings for copper. I’ve also used plastic pipe with push fit and compression fittings and that is very quick and easy to use. I realise some professional plumbers look down on plastic “ caravan plumbing” but it’s much easier to use and has been reliable for me.

I have just bought a ceramic basin for the bathroom that just has a hole for the overflow. What sort of trap will I need, is there one where you have a hose that connects the overflow to the trap? I removed the old sink following your videos, first time I have attempted anything like this. The place where I bought the sink from didn't have a clue what I needed!

Couldn't agree more about the pipework being neat for future repairs, nothing drives me nuts like service valves facing the back of the unit or drain offs so low you can't attach anything on them!......... Or snots of solder all over the place so it's difficult to cut the pipe where you want, flux left on fittings so they turn green, flexis bent and kinked within an inch of their life, the list is endless.

Is it okay to run a waste pipe upward? It's literally only a very slight incline for about 10cm. The new sink I'm fitting to replace my broken one has a different water trap which sits lower than the waste pipe coming through the wall. So I need to use some corner pipe to bring it down a bit. I'm a programmer not a plumber so I'm doing my best lol

Great video. Just not sure about the flexi pipes being hand tightened within the tap itself. I've always tightened these using a spanner where there's room, but looking at the taps used in the video, the flexi has to be connected deep inside the tap, can't get a spanner in there, with high water pressure won't these leak? To be honest what brought me here is I've got 2 of these exact taps and didn't like the idea of hand tightening the flexi pipe!
@Miaclarke20142 жыл бұрын
Did you manage to find how to tighten the pipes. I’ve got the same thing don’t like the idea of hand tight water pipe under pressure.
@Bits-n-Bobs2 жыл бұрын
@@Miaclarke2014 no choice but hand tighten, trust them, they’re meant to be hand tightened, the little seals and water pressure do the job, they won’t leak after installing.

Sorry to ask this on the wrong video. But my message thing isn't working . I have a leaky 3bar PRV on my boiler system . It goes straight out the wall. It keeps draining the rads upstairs and causes the boiler to knock/bang. So I've blocked it with a quick fit 15mm stop. And charged the system again and bled the rads . It will be like this until momday when I can get a new prv. I know this isn't "perfect" but will this be ok till then ? Only charged it to 1bar. Cheers mate . Hope that makes sense . Great channel. Love it
@spoonz10656 жыл бұрын
Chris D . Do they weep on occasions or only when it reaches the 3 bar . If this is the case then it's a rare occasion never/faik safeif it would ever go that high surely. The new bit turns up tomorrow which I'll be fitting straight away . House with kids and a wife that's always cold .(even on holiday in Egypt she was cold) so I'll take an explosion over hearing nagging and crying kids. I've left the front cover off the oil boiler and check the valve constantly to make sure it doesn't raise above 1.3 bar . Only 2 more heating cycles . Once tonight at 7pm and 7am when I'm up . So

Agree i always feel safer if i have tightened them just a bit,, also i was always told to put a plugged and tee on the waste in situations like this, not just elbows,I thought the basin would need some mastic to lock it on the worktop, Funny how we all have a slightly different idea,s.

would be better if you'd weld a copper fittings with thread on those copper pipes coming from wall and just bought longer flexi hoses to connect! that way its easier to disconnect and move the cabinet away from wall, otherwise if you need to move the cabinet you have to unsolder the 90deg bends
