Have just bought a similar unit and initially just wanted to see how the basin was fixed to the wall/unit. as no attachment fixings were supplied, so thanks for the instruction. The added bonus was your use of the flexy waste hose as opposed to rigid pipe, as not only faster to install, but can be tucked away in the corner so maximum use of space inside the unit. Also like the editing, in terms of leaving the water spillage in the video rather than editing it out because in the real world this is what happens. Not yet 10 a.m. and already learnt two things today,,,, so thanks again.

Fabulous clart. I'm doing a pub/Garden house/office. Its also got an outhouse shower/toilet. All work on my own and one of the biggest hurdles was how am I gonna fit the water supply from a garden hose to plastic pipes to the fittings. I reckon I'm gonna make it. Just used this video to fit my vanity sink. It was fantastic. The only thing i'm having a battle with is the waste pipe connections. I have a 32mm waste trap but my waste pipe that comes into the bathroom is 40mm. Could you do a list of what i need to buy. I wasted to much money buying the wrong bits at B&Q. Hi Paul, I used the set up you need in the video. You need a reducer connection like in the video. I used a compression fitting that takes your size from 32mm (coming from the sink waste) into 42mm pipe which I used on the rest of the pipework which I prefer as it's a bit bigger. Watch again and all will become clear! Basically use 32 mm u bend to attach to sink waste then some 32mm pipe from that, then a reducer to (in reverse!) to take it to 40mm pipe. Then use all 40mm pipe from there into your original pipe work. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

Probably not, but it depends. Some plumbers may do general building too. A tiler may even do it as part of their job. The important thing is having someone that know's what they're doing and does what you want. Hope that helps.

It’s given me the confidence to have a go at doing this in the downstairs toilet, one slight issue I have is the supply is 10/12mm plastic barrier pipe so I presume I need some Form of reducer to go from that to the standard 15mm isolation Valve ? Also should I put ptfe tape on the threads ? Thankyou

Hi there. Yes you would need a reducer to increase the size of the pipe, but bear in mind that's very small pipe for mains water. It won't provide a great flow so if it's possible try to increase all the pipe work to 15mm. Having said that, if that's all you can do, get a reducer and give it a go! You don't need PTFE tape on compression fittings as the olive creates the seal. I hate to criticise when you have gone to the trouble of making the vid, but the white hard plastic washer goes underneath between the lock nut and seal to prevent it twisting. ( just like the ones on 1 1/2" and 1 1/4" pipe compression fittings.

Yes, just face the screw driver slot down when tightening the valve. That way you just use a stumpy screwdriver facing up. Plenty of room. Thanks for watching.

Hi Mohammed, thanks for the feedback. I did this job in my own bathroom so not really sure what you would charge for this job. As a rough guide, the work I did in the video took me a few hours but it depends how quick you are. Also I did all the plumbing before hand for the sink to drain into. This takes more time and quite a bit of planning as you need to know where to place your soil pipe, toilet, shower tray etc if planning a new bathroom like I did. im about to do my 2nd bathroom and the tips in these videos will help me overcome some of the problems i found last time. doing a shower with feet this time not a bath and a wall mounted floating vanity unit. Using wet wall in stead of tiles in wet areas and behind the vanity unit. do you recoment fitting the wet wall floor to ceiling behind the vanity unit and basin or fit the basin/unit first then wet wall down to it? which will give a better seal? Hi Tony, personally I would wet wall behind the vanity unit (presumably this isn't going to get sprayed with water?) If you ever need to change the unit, the wet wall will still be in place. Otherwise you will find if you ever need to take the unit off, you'l have a particular size hole to fill over again. Prob wont make a huge difference with the seal. Yes, the olive makes the seal. You can us PTFE on the olive or a bit of jointing compound but not usually necessary.

Depends on size of your waste pipe and weather or note you want them all through same hole or not. You could drill 3 separate holes or you could just out a neat square with a jig saw to fit them all through. It's up to you really. Best of luck with it.

Looks worse on the vid than it actually is, but there wasn't a lot of room to play with. Downstairs bathroom, concrete floor and the outside drains are fairly shallow so it was was making the best of the situation. However it is still working well with no problems to date so all good. About 7m40secs I explain how to line the holes on your waste/pop up plug with the overflow. You can also pack it underneath with plumbers mate before tightening up which will full proof it. Have a watch and hopefully it makes sense.

I’m having this issue at the min, no matter what I do I get water leaking into the overflow holes and then water leaks through the plastic threads of the large nut, I can’t seem to see how this will not happen? As water flows into the holes inside the waste/tap unit and finds its way into the threads? Did you manage to sort it?

The white nylon shim goes below the sink between chamfered seal and nut to stop the seal scrunching up when the nut is tightened.

Yes, ply is ok as it's strong. You could use a tile backer board if tiling after or plasterboard if plastering. If on the floor I like to use ply and then you can always screw backer board or plasterboard to that if needed then you know it's solid if any weight is put on it the future. Best of luck with it.

I wouldn't use them in an area with no access as being rough on shape they are more likely to collect sediment or debris if on a shallow slope, but having g said that, as a DIY option with funny angles to negotiate they do a great job in my opinion. No problems with using them myself, and seals are great. Hope tgat helps.

My unit doesn't come with any wall mounting brackets and the wooden plank at the back sits off the wall so im confused as to how i can anchor it

If your wooden 'plank' sits off the wall, can you pack behind it with some timber, then screw through into the wall like in my video? Alternatively you could by some angle brackets like this - amzn.to/2S06Yax turn on their side, screw them into the inside of the side panels of the unit (make sure you use short screws so they don't go through to the outside!) then screw the bracket to the wall. In the video I used a no nonsense sanitary sealant but if I was doing a wetter area like a frequently used shower I'd go for a slightly better one. I used to like mapei but I find it is prone to mould growth after a few years. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!

I have a similar waste pipe setup to you but with a mcalpine pedestal trap instead. For some reason the sink has started making heavy gargling noises after draining. It’s as if it needs a vent because when I remove the extra little cap on the trap (potentially exposing the bathroom to sewerage smells) the gargling stops. I’m completely confused why it has only started happening recently and why there is no need for a vent with this trap or the bottle trap you’ve used. Any help would be really appreciated.

You need to let air into the system preferably from outside the house. You may need to rearrange the waste pipe exit point so you have an extra piece of vertical pipe [3'] above the joint and open to the air, rather like the vent pipe on 4" toilet waste systems. It could may need a 'balloon' or 'basket' to stop stuff getting in and blocking out the air or collecting rubbish in the pipe. I had this problem with 2 outlet pipes next to each other. OMG - This is incorrect on so many levels it would never pass inspection in the US, for one thing where is the P-trap / water trap to stop methane sewer gas from coming up through the drain? I would never hide one of those flexible plastic drains they always end up cracking and leaking at the expansion ribs. Reminds me of bad mobile home plumbing from back in the seventies.

Hi there, in the UK we have several types of 'p trap'. In the video the trap is directly below the plug hole in the sink. It is a space saver design so the bit that stops the smells is all contained within the straight section of pipe. I'm sure you have these in the US as well. As for the flexible pipe, it is hidden but perfectly accessible if access was needed. I have never had a problem with these, I find this particular one very good. They are excellent for DIYers as they make light work of awkward spaces. Of course you can use solvent weld joints and solid pipe but the point is to show DIY enthusiasts that plumbing can be cheap and simple. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching!

Nice vid. I'd just highlight the fact that we have issues with the plug seal today. You've mentioned some run into mold problems and that some sealants aren't as effective as others. To me this is a big deal. I don't see why in this day an age we can't have some code regulating safe plumbing. The hazards are always the legionnaires disease the lesser pests of miasma and mold spore. You can purchase products which claim to be sealant and even sport photographic examples of waste sealant applications, e.g. whbs, but the product has no waterproof properties once wet and is really just filler. Personally I feel very let down by building code and trading standards. Really I should make a statement of complaint to them, but you get just sickened and despondent with the decades of failure to catch these little issues that are so universal and such an embuggerence to everyone really, that I haven't yet bothered. Good vid anyway. Thanks

Please don't fix basin's to tiled walls with sealant..try getting that off if some little person drop's something. And yes try not to use flexible wastes, and rubber washers and sealant??

Really? 5 years on and it's still going strong with daily regular use. Why would you think this is a problem? Whilst I agree solvent weld pipe is neater, and possibly last longer, compression fittings are very easy to not only use but replace for a novice which makes them ideal. Thanks for watching.

Fabulous clart. I'm doing a pub/Garden house/office. Its also got an outhouse shower/toilet. All work on my own and one of the biggest hurdles was how am I gonna fit the water supply from a garden hose to plastic pipes to the fittings. I reckon I'm gonna make it. Another problem I have is it's in Romania and I don't have Romanian language skills. I understand south Wales perfect.
