Wash & Talk : BMW E92 M3

I'm taking a break from my giant pile of Milwaukee tools to wash the M3. The water spots are finally gone, but I'm not in love with CanCoat. The new rear bumper has arrived, so it'll be time to properly ceramic coat with my go to combo of CSL and EXO.

True coatings aren’t for everyone as they are a long term commitment to one product on your car unless you compound it off which means all the prep and application was a waste of time and money. I like to try different things out, that’s the fun of detailing. Also, not everyone has a workshop with great lighting to apply a ceramic and leave it cure out of the weather.

I disagree. CS went on and leveled easily. Evo was not taking on top of CS evenly, but leveled fine. Second coat was great. Just my positive experience.

This is just my system. I have done both an IGL professionally installed ceramic coat and sustained driveway-applied SiO2 spray treatments on a Laguna Blue S2000. The former is better new then gets patchy (not unlike deck stain), so you have to mow it down and reinstall once you reach your pain point. The protection is superior for bird droppings, but door dings and hail are equally hopeless. In both cases, most pressure washing can be done with softened water using a wide, gentle tip, then dried with a battery powered blower. My objective is to avoid micromarring from mit washes and drying towels as much as possible (2/3 bucket with grit guard is not a silver bullet), to stave off unnecessary polishing (clearcoat removal). For SiO2 spray I can top off any gaps in protection with ease. It's not a diet pill or for lazy or cheap people. It is an easier to maintain paint sealant and sold at a similar cost, that still adds depth, gloss and medium protection on properly leveled and deoxidized paint. If you frequently apply quick detailer on your car, you may want the true ceramic coat to resist "love marks" that little bit better. If a bird drops on my car, I give it a quick wash on return home. With a true CC you might be able to get away with rubbing that acid and grit off with QD, but if not, repair is involved. This works for me on a lower mileage but frequently driven, not always garaged and sometimes (gasp) rained on S2K.

I pretty much hate it...HDMI long run is a mess, having a 2.35:1 screen was a bad idea. I also chose a screen with too much gain. I can see the texture in it on well lit scenes. There is a good chance, I'll be punting it for another OLED.

Obsessed Garage I actually just made the switch to the Sony native 4K ultra short throw laser with an ambient light rejection screen after seeing it at a demo. I’m still pretty surprised by the clarity, color accuracy and brightness... painfully expensive though.

They key would be to eliminate the double import taxation on a lot of products. I'm paying through my cost the price to import things into the US, then you have to pay the import fees again to bring into Canada. If I create a place directly in Canada, we can skip that extra expense.

I recently used the gyeon can coat on my 2005 Honda Civic type r. After giving the car a 2 stage polish. I applied can coat, I got the exact same hazing, imperfections you have had. I mean I’ve used traditional ceramic coatings many times before on previous cars without issue. I put it down to over spray. The following week i, then stripped the coating off. Followed up with a single pass with menzerna 3500 to get rid of any marring from clay barring the car. Safe to say I won’t be using can coat again. Anyway, keep up the good work, showing my support from the uk 🇬🇧!

Honestly, this is my favourite car in your collection. The upgrades are beautifully done. I have an E46 M3, looking to upgrade to the E92... but they all have that hideous iDrive. The ones that don't, never have the carbon roof when I find one for sale ahaha!

One additional suggestion I did notice when using 2 castor buckets is that wouldn’t it make since to have the 2 buckets inside a single caster roller 🤷‍♂️ Curious about your thoughts. Funny you mention the Beadmaker attracting dust myth. I actually ran an inadvertent test that kinda confirms that Beadmaker is more dust prone, but it took 2+ weeks of the car sitting outside in the desert to even notice the difference between the dust level on my Beadmaker'ed car and the Reload'ed car sitting next to it. There's an easy fix for it though... just wash the dang car, since Beadmaker looks far better than anything I've used so far for the application

I also noticed this spotting residue after using Cancoat on a friend's 3 series. At the time, I just assumed it was airborne Cancoat particles from the spray application onto the microfibre towel, that then settled onto the paintwork. I could be wrong though....

Car looks weird for the first time Matt. Didn’t know can coat provided that type of look. Mohs + skin looks nicer for sure. Still happy using CSL+EXO though for the last 3 years. Just a great combo. refreshing it this year though since I just wanted to try CSL on it’s own. Much better to use it together.

Two suggestions for improvement: 1) The hose you’re complaining about might be a little too long, especially for that car. Harder to manipulate and walk around with it when there is excess hanging off your boom. 2) Never touch your wash mitt to the wiper blade. Wipers are nasty, even on a well maintained car. They need a separate clean. Nice lighting on video!

Question - Do you need to add any water to the Brake Buster solution within a Foam Cannon bottle, or is the solution the only thing in there to use on the wheels with a pressure washer? Do you see any problem with (instead of having two full bottle/sprayer setups) swapping the bottle only, keeping the same foam cannon head, with two different solutions (brake buster and shampoo)?

7:00 I'm sorry Matt but whenever I have beadmaker on my car, dust LOVES to stick to it haha. I'm guessing your part of Florida doesn't have much dust in the air compared to other states so you probably haven't experienced it but its true!! If I just have wax on the car it will take like a week for dust to accumulate on the surface but with beadmaker it takes 2 days and the car looks like I just drove it through a sandstorm😬
