This video is on a whirlpool style washer. This type of washer is known as a direct drive it was made by Whirlpool whirl pool owned companies includingother brands like Roper, estate, Crosley, Kenmore and others. If your washer is slightly spinning it’s more than likely not this problem. It will be the clutch. This problem will have the key factors of not draining water and making a loud noise but not spinning the clothes out or agitating.

Replaced using 285753A kit, did not fix problem. Original coupler had metal insert, not completely plastic. However, on close inspection there was plastic deformation on inside of one of the metal sleeves, and when I looked at the motor shaft the upper and lower edges of the flat part of the shaft where the coupler slides on had sheared off!!! This is the root cause of my problem. Just ordered new motor for my Kenmore 10.26432503, but I really liked your video so here's some additional feed back on "loud grinding noise and no spin action" issue. I have some pictures I can send you for your enjoyment, but don't want to chance putting my e-mail address public. Hope you can get back to me privately via e-mail. Thanks for the video. Changing the coupler fixed the initial problem, however, right after a new problem arose. When the machine goes into spin mode and builds up speed, the agitator will stop for a split second and makes a loud popping noise kind of like it is slipping out of gear. The agitator then will build up speed and repeats it over and over. I took the transmission apart and replace the plastic gear and the neutral drain kit along with new oil (even though the old parts did not look damaged). It did not help. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You said it would drain even though it doesn't agitate or spin and it makes a grinding noise. Can I turn it on so it will drain or will that burn up the motor or cause another problem? Thanks!

@WasherDryerMoney
@WasherDryerMoney 3 жыл бұрын
I don't have any videos on discharging capacitors but there are plenty out there. It's pretty easy just be careful. If you're planning on touching any wiring you'll have to discharge a capacitor. I'm trying to think I don't believe that you have to touch any wires while replacing a coupler. But again if you do just watch a video on it.

This was very helpful, but I had many other issues. My coupler was broken, as you suggested, so I replaced it. But first my washer pump was rusted to the end of my motor. By the time I got it off I realized I had broken the motor switch. Since it was so rusted I just ordered a new motor. The motor switch on that motor came broken. I ordered a new motor that came with a broken switch. I decided to order just the switch since I had a newer motor now. I replaced all the wires as the old one. I put in the new coupler, motor, and pump. I found my lid switch is broken too, so I replaced that. Got everything back together, but no spin. I hear it engage, but the motor isn't turning. Any idea what I could have done wrong or how to diagnose it?

@WasherDryerMoney

Try putting a little WD-40 on the motor shaft not too much and don’t get it inside the motor bearings. If that doesn’t work, you can go extreme and take a hammer and slowly break the water pump to pieces until you can get the whole thing off. I know it sounds crazy but I’ve had to do this several times and sometimes it’s just the only thing that will work. This is usually caused by rust, swelling the shaft and jamming it in the plastic. Just be careful and go slowly with a hammer breaking it apart. You don’t want to hurt the motor or the bearings on front of the motor.

@WasherDryerMoney
@WasherDryerMoney 3 жыл бұрын
I think the 2012 would be the regular newer type of washers. This is one of the older style they have not made this machine in a while. If it is the type that has the six LEDs and a round gray pause play button it could be the actuator has gone out or is going out.

Live in a condo and we had gotten new washing machines... I live right above the laundry room, and now it sounds like a helicopter has landed below me, especially when it's on the spin cycle. Of course it's a vintage building, so floors are uneven, but never had this issue with the prior washing machines. I'm thinking because they are placed smack-dab next to each other and should be separated/not touching?? Your input would be greatly appreciated, as I'm at my wit's end. Already tried anti-vibration pads on the bottom, and now maintenance has placed small thin plywood boards in between the machines, which of course are extremely narrow as there is not much room between the machines at all, to no avail. Do you think they should be at least a couple inches apart to negate the vibration? Thank you in advance for your reply, sir.
@WasherDryerMoney
@WasherDryerMoney 2 жыл бұрын
There are two main types of washers that have problems with getting off-balance when they’re in spin cycle. Type one is the older type of washer that is my favorite machine because of how long that last. They are easy to pick out because you pull the knob Out to turn the machine on. Check out my video titled (washer shaking banging easy to fix tub wear pads) The second type of washer is the one that has six lights and a gray pause/play button if this is a tax machine you have check out my video titled (Cheap permanent? fix for shaking banging washers) this video explains what’s going on I would recommend just replacing the suspension rods if this is the problem.

@@WasherDryerMoney I have what you are considering the "older type washer", even though it's new. Watched your recommended video for that, and even after yours is "fixed", it sounds like the vibration noise I am currently experiencing, even though your washer is free standing. I thought the problem might be because our two washers are touching together... like people don't put speakers in a car or an audio unit in the house, where both speakers are smack-dab together. I thought that would be the issue, but now am not so sure seeing that yours standing solo still vibrates like ours.

If it does it is not the water pump if it doesn’t it might still be the Cupler or it’s in the transmission or clutch. On rare occasions I have seen the part that holds the Metal drum to the transmission break loose. This is a hard one to spot pretty much just take the agitator off and see if the metal drum is connected well or if the two ears are loose that hold it on.

Don't these older washers have suspension springs?

There are some springs but they are not like the new suspension springs. They are to hold a plate that it sits on centered.

Hey, thanks for this video. It was a tremendous help getting the coupler replaced on our washer. So, I replaced the coupler on the motor about two months ago and everything was fine (front of motor only-back was fine). Then just last week, I noticed the machine didn't seem to want to go into agitate mode after filling. Agitation began and all was well. Then just today, agitation wouldn't begin and there was a burning smell. Machine would not drain either. Does this sound like a belt issue? We just watched your actuator video where you had the transmission removed from the machine. Not sure if this is the issue. Any assistance you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work with your awesome videos! George

If your machine has a coupler you have a direct drive washer and the transmission I work on in the other video is not the same machine. Two quick things to check is it just the lid switch gone bad. That’s what it sounds like except for you said there’s a smell which makes me think it could be the motor burned up. If the lid switch is bad it will not make a slight clicking noise when you open and close the lid.

@@WasherDryerMoney thanks for getting back to me. It's not the lid switch because that went bad a couple of years ago and I replaced it successfully and it is clicking just fine. I replaced the coupler in February with the assistance of this video. This new problem began yesterday with the burning smell. It will not agitate or drain. I have already opened the machine up. The new coupler is intact. I also pulled the hoses off the water pump to check for blockage in the hoses or pump itself and there does not appear to be any blockage. So do you think the motor needs to be replaced?

@@georgebariames6249 Usually smelling burned is a symptom of the motor going bad. When the motor is completely out it will not come on or it will just buzz.

That type of washer was known to have things like bobby pins get in the water pumps. If it’s the Toploader older version I would lean it over and check the water pump first. Make sure to have a towel or bucket because sometimes there’s still water in that line even with the washer drained.

Can you do videos on how you fix cosmetic problems?
@WasherDryerMoney
@WasherDryerMoney 4 жыл бұрын
Yes I’ll make a video on it. For the most part 95% of making a appliance look like new is cleaning and painting. Prepping for paint and good techniques for spray painting is very important to make a washer or dryer look like new.

I’m releasing a video tomorrow on a dryer I sold yesterday. Got it as a trade-in so technically I paid $20 for it. Fixed it in a few minutes with $10 in parts, sold it for $200 and gave them $20 off because they had a trade-in that I’m working on today, easy to fix just the let’s switch. Trade-ins is key to this business.

@@sashkimmy You’re welcome. My brother actually had a washer machine that I replace those gears in and it made a little bit of a grinding noise. It did go away after a little while. I think it’s just the new sharp teeth on the gears make it a little loud.
