My dryer is about 2 years old and there’s only two of us in the house. Maytag is junk. It’s been squeaking for about a year. After paying a repair man $120 that didn’t fix the issue, I watched this video and fixed it myself. Thank you for this video!

Great tutorials. Common sense approach and explaination for the DIYer. ANYONE can fix common problems and issues by following you on your channel. I pick up scrap metal as a sideline, and its amazing how many nice, late model units i pick up as junk that need very little. I had one recently that the keeper and ider pully fell off of. That was all, and it was scrapped by the customer. I donate most of my repaired units to people who cant afford to buy new appliances. Thanks for making your contribution of knowledge.

Thanks so much for this. The instructions were perfect. I looked at another video but it was for a slightly different unit and the whole front of the dryer had to be removed. I came across your video in the cue by chance with basically the same unit I have. The instructions could not have been more spot on. This saved me a bunch of cash.

Thank you for the simple to follow video. I've had to replace the idler pulley twice over the past two years and used your method (removal of back panel) both times with great success. Going through the front of the dryer and removing the drum is much more complicated and I may have to do that at some point to replace the drum wheels, but I haven't needed to replace them yet. Again, thank you for your video.

Just wanted to thank you for this very useful video. It saved me big $$$! I only had one problem... I just couldn't get that new belt back on the pully. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't do it. I thought the new belt was too short. What I wound up doing was leaving half the belt on top off the drum, then l had enough slack to fit it on. Then afterwards I pulled the belt over the drum in the proper place. Anyway, that was the only way I could get it to go. All good now and you sir were a HUGE help. Thanks!

This was a great video, showed me everything I needed to do, *except*, on my model of dryer (model #MEDB880BW0), the emergency cutoff is completely different, it's a piece of electronics with a physical tab that goes in the cross-shaped cut-out, when the idelr pulley is released, it knocks the tab down. All you have to do is re-set that tab when you've got the new pulley all in place, but it did take me a little bit of testing and trial-and-error to get it right. Thanks so much!

I just put out a video on how to break this machine completely apart. Look through some of my recent videos.

This video was very helpful! I went ahead and replaced the drum rollers at the same time. A few weeks later, the idler pulley seized up. I replaced it again and now it's squeaking again (3 weeks later). I have a feeling something is out of alignment causing the issue. Any idea what the issue could be? Thank you!

Always hard to tell when I’m not there to actually look at them. But first use some type of oil to lubricate it. I like white lithium grease. Do not use WD-40. You could also lubricate the pivot point on the arm of the idler pulley. Try that first

Great video!! I have a Bravos XL making a very loud similar noise. It started intermittently a couple weeks ago and gradually became more frequent. Now, it is continuous, but it only starts making the noise after it warms up and has been running for 10 or 15 minutes. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

It could be the idler pulley or the drum rollers. That would be the first thing I would check. Sometimes you don’t even have to replace anything just white lithium grease. It just depends on how worn out the rollers are. Even a tiny bit of where will make them loud.

@@WasherDryerMoney Thanks for the reply!! And the Great Video!! I took the back of a couple days ago, it was definitely the idler pulley, gunked up and sticking. Cleaned it up good, put it back, started don't it again 20 minutes later. The send seems to affect it after it runs for a while. Ordered new one, just now put it on. Working great. Only One Question, When you put on a new one, do you just put it on, or do you use white lithium on it first ordinarily?

@@WasherDryerMoney I have the opposite issue. It starts off squealing and then stops as it warms up
@WasherDryerMoney

@@Chris-yu9xe could be the same problem. It’s a metal on metal bearing so it may just need to be oiled but most of the time it has a little bit of ware and will start squeaking. The parts cheap I would replace it if oil in it doesn’t help. I like using white lithium grease.

@@WasherDryerMoney I put in the new pulley, been working great for several days now. Thanks so much for the help. I never put grease on the new one, but I'm educated on it now.

I replaced the idler pulley, but I am having issues putting the belt back on. It is too loose. I took pictures before, but still cant manage to put it back. I even took it apart from the front to see if the belt missed going around something, but no, it only grabs the drum. How can this be? Looked for belt diagrams, and nothing that's clear.

Did you ever get a response or instructions? I am having the exact problem as you describe.

Solved the issue, if it will help anyone, make sure to align the belt more towards the center of the drum, not the back edge. Look for the old belt marks and align to help you. Also, make sure nothing is interfering with belt from being aligned. After making those corrections, I was able to get a tight fit, and install correctly.

@@humbertolanderos6874 we are having this same issue. Belt is now too loose and won’t stay on! Am dreading opening up the dryer further :( any suggestions? Replacing the idler pulley was a 10 min job. Great video on that .

Hi, great video. I have a maytag bravos, it makes a small thumping noise when spinning. Also right before it comes to a stop when you turn it off it makes a growling/thumping noise. Checked all rollers and they all seem to be spinning fine, could it most likely be idler pulley? Or bad spring? Or rollers worn out even if they spin fine?. Thanks in advance.

Check the drum itself where the rollers run. Sometimes they’ll be a little piece of lint or old rubber that will slowly grow and create a thumping noise when the roller hits it. Also occasionally there will be stuff in the actual dryer fins that flip the clothes. Usually it will sound like change going back-and-forth.

why di you use white lithium grease??

I’ve always liked white lithium grease. I fixed some machines and had to go back to do other repairs later and the spots that I used white lithium grease we’re still well lubricated. I’m also a fan of silicone lubricant spray from Walmart for some applications. There’s 1 million different types. I just prefer white lithium but to each their own.

So you also need lithium lubricating spray in addition to the tools. Did not show the amount and where to spray.

Yeah or any type of oil that you prefer. Just oil any friction points. If you’re replacing the part it will be slightly old when you get it.
