Our 30-year old washer had stripped out agitator...So I found a kenmore on craigslist , looked like practically new. $20.00 , man said it would not cut off on fill and flooded his basement so he bought new one...After watching your vid , l bought it, got it home , unscrewed control panel and sure enough hose was unattached, so I reattached it , put an electrical wire tie on it for extra security...hooked up to water hose outside garage and ran it through cycle....Ran like new ...my wife is ecstatic !...Thanx so much !

Thanks!!!!! This was the first hit when I googled, "washing machine keeps filling". You even have exactly the same machine, except that mine is the 80 series with no rinse options. I opened it up like you said, hooked the hose back up, put it back together, and it works perfectly; took maybe 2 minutes. There is no appliance repair locally so we thought we were going to have to spend $400+ on a new machine. Thank you so much for sharing this, and for your detailed explanations!!!

Wife was complaining about the washer wouldn't quit filling with water and the agitator wouldn't start. I watched your video went down to the basement and sure enough the hose was pulled off. Thanks for the video, it saved me a lot of time and effort. My machine also agitates with the lid open but the wife said it has always did that.

Robert- I know you have had this video out for awhile, but I wanted to tell you my THANKS!! Everything you said was true. The only thing is I connected the hose, but my washer was still filling up with water, so I googled some more and found Bill Newberry's video that had the other success and that was to blow into the hose several times and then do what you said and connect it back. These two things: 1. Blowing into the clear hose and 2. Connecting the hose back like you said, worked like a charm. Thank you a million times.....

Robert, Thanks so much! I thought I'd have to do alot more. You saved my day, and I got clean close! I probably jiggled the hose loose when I had to take off the washer shroud to lubricate the dried out grease in the motor and pump bearings with wd40. That was enough to get it all running again. It was seized. I sprayed wd40 in the stator as well cause it was dry too. everything looks like a sealed bearing, but this oil set in and did the job so far. I'm about 10 loads in. Thanks Bro!

I know you did say something about the washer agitating while the lid is open, that's actually how those older Kenmore/Whirlpool washers are designed, that switch will only stop the washer when it's in the spin cycle. It's not like a Maytag or Speed Queen where it will stop all operations when the lid is open.

Thank you for a helpful video. I am going to try it to see if it stops my machine from overfilling. I have an old Kenmore 80s series that I purchased new about eleven years ago. The lid switch broke about eighteen months ago, and I managed to fix it (it was an exhausting job for a small person who is not strong), but I began to worry then about how much longer the machine would last. I looked at new washing machines at Sears last week, and they all have computer boards in them now that pretty much controls everything. The owner can no longer choose a load's water level, and there is no longer a warm water rinse option on any of the machines. I have been washing clothes for almost fifty years. I know how to choose a water level, and sometimes I want a warm water rinse, so I am not at all pleased about these changes. The sales associate told me that the computer board is the most expensive part of these new machines, and if it fails the cost to repair it is prohibitive, so the best thing an owner can do at that point is to purchase another machine. I asked how long these new style computer run machines are likely to last, and I was told perhaps five years. Five years?! They expect us to pay hundreds of dollars for a machine with a life expectancy of only five years???? The government is responsible for these idiotic changes, and I think it stinks. It makes it very difficult for people on very limited and/or fixed incomes to afford to own a washing machine anymore. : (
