Perfect video, combined with the bearing replacement video. Replaced both the bearing & seal as the Kid's washer was extra noisy and stopped spinning. Had to use some muscle to get the tub to spin ahead of getting the parts. When dismantling, did find some water in the washer base pan, didn't determine if this was from the overflow tube or leaking past the seal. Set up a tablet and continuously followed the video(s). Residual water in the outer tub drain base needs to be drained down. Bought a 1-11/16" socket & used an impact gun to remove the tub nut. Parents owned laundromats back in the day & tub nuts were never fun. Used some penetrating oil to help loosen some of the corrosion. It took a few rata-tat-tats to finally break the nut free. Did use a soft wire brush to continuously clean corrosion from parts through the process. Since the bearing was being replaced, punched the seal out from the bottom with a large socket instead of trying to lift it with screwdrivers. Used silicon grease on the seal instead of soap as the video showed. The rest went well, without issues - though some extra muscle was needed due to corrosion & tight parts. Did take the time to clean years of residual scum from all the parts, took that stuff outside and used a brush & garden hose. Overall took about 4 hours - including some time for lunch. Parts replaced: Bearing, Seal & Washer (between the bearing & transmission).

This video was perfect! We (have never attempted anything like this) used this video and repaired the seal on the washing machine. It took us a couple of hours and the hardest part was getting the agitator out. So happy did not just toss and replace it! Saved $$ too! Thank you, Steve!

Your explanation was clear, concise and on point. The supplier was conveying a price that was way over a new machine. We sourced the parts and fixed the machine ourselves. Excellent Video.

Many thanks to Steve for his clear and patient demonstration. He didn't rush through anything and we understood what to do every step of the way. A comment to the photographer: a great closeup at about 3:04 in. It would be very helpful to have closeups for every thing "Steve is doing to let us see the place to put the bolt in, hooking up the hoses in back, etc. Only seeing Steve from ten feet away from the camera isn't good enough. Thanks again.

Thank you sir. I did it! I panicked a tad, when I couldn't get the nut off. I sprayed WD-40 on it, and after an hour or so it unscrewed. Now I have a spanner wrench I will never use for a while, but it is worth it. Thank you again.

Thanks for the video.... I have a 15 month old GE GTAN4250. Started leaking. Carried out this repair, seems to have done the trick (after the first wash). Bought a deep socket and used an impact driver, worked like a charm. Here is hoping it lasts longer then a year this time.

My machine is overfilling and I have replaced the pressure switch and hose. I noticed air bubbles coming from the infuser, I can tell is losing air pressure. Could the seal being bad cause this issue? Water goes up the hose. Thank you

Anyone know what the symptoms of a bad tub seal are? I just went to do a second load of laundry, first load was fine, and when i pulled the know to start filling water it started dumping water from under the washer. I pulled off the front door and gad a look for loose or broken hoses, but it seems like drips of water are coming off the bottom of the drum? What all should i be looking for? Thank you

@PartSelect if that ring (not the nut) doesn't split in half, how pertinent is it that it's changed? will it impact the leaking at all? when these machines leak due to the seal, how much of it is/could be attributed to that ring? thanks
@partselect
@partselect 7 жыл бұрын
The split ring does not have to be replaced unless it is corroded badly or has broken in half. The purpose of the split ring is to allow tightening of the tub nut without damaging the tub or spin tube.

Any ideas as to how to get the 1-11/16 nut off if frozen. I have a spanner, not the same one you use, but it's meant for this one job, and I have soaked the nut in PB penetration oil. I'm not getting anywhere. I have the spare parts, so I'm not trying to save anything, but I dont want to ruin the shaft or tub.

I have a GE washer with model gbxr1070w0ww. When I search part select it takes me to VBXR1070W0WW . Is that the same washer? Second, from the video, it seems like there is a kit that comes together with new tub seal and nuts etc (all the new parts shown in the video). From part select I only see the individual parts (tub seal by itself, etc.). How do I find the kits?
@partselect
@partselect 8 жыл бұрын
The new parts shown in the video were not from a kit. The original tub nut and split ring were damaged during the disassembly and had to be replaced during the repair. Sorry for the confusion.

I have replaced the seal twice now and the machine is still leaking down the shaft slightly. Shaft seams to be nice and smooth and have seated the seal firmly in place both times. Seal was about 1/16 or so from flush both times. Doesn't want to get completely flush. Still the seal is even all the way around. I also made sure everything was clean and free of debris. Any tips or suggestions would be great. I'm thinking maybe the outer tube is bad? Thanks

If you washer is old as mine there will be not as the video you will find rust dirt and very difficult to remove but every piece will be out if you try harder o hammer more times... used the wrench by in Amazon 8 or 10 dollars and remove the nut and the washer with the wrench is the only way... to remove the gasket basically you need to break it apart... even do everything as shown in the video it's still leaking I dnt know why... yet under shaft... ( shaft it's ok no damage I guess I have to take the whole thing off and check outside clear plastic drum??? My last try and then buy a new one...

The shaft is probably worn. Over time the seal can wear a groove in the shaft. Even a tiny amount of wear will cause the replacement seal to leak.
