The Cowboys would go into the Giant game with a identical 6-2 record. A blitz that was not picked up by Tony Dorsett caused a blind side hit that caused a fumble and recovery by the Giants. Danny White would break his wrist and be out for the season. The Cowboys go onto lose that game and their last 7 out of their 8 games. That hit was the end of the Landry Cowboys for being competitive. They would end the season 7-9 and end Landry's winning season streak. 7-8 in 1987, 3-13 in 88 and that was the end of Landry as the head coach.

You seem to be leaving out the fact that The Giants, Washington & Eagles all got better while The Cowboys got worse because of poor drafts. Also team chemistry was ruined by the players strike that really split the locker room.

People who criticize Danny White need to realize that he kept Dallas Competitive until that wrist injury ended his career. Sure he returned for at least one more season but he was never the same. He was leading an aging Cowboys team and kept them winning and in the playoffs. The one year Dallas failed to make the playoffs he was splitting time with Gary Hogeboom. White was an underrated QB who inherited an aging team. I say he did pretty darn good until Taylor destroyed his throwing wrist.

@johnliberty3647 Your facts are off regarding Dallas missing the playoffs. 1985 was the last year of their playoff era under Tom Landry. A 6-2 Cowboy team lost Danny White to injury in week 9 of 1986, and the club limped to a 7-9 finish & out of the postseason. That started a streak of 5 straight years where they missed the playoffs, before their 1991 resurgence. 👌

There were 3 Heisman Trophy winners playing in this game. And I learned "WD-40" offense, and "all the way, every play" 🙂

Tony Dorsett on that first drive carrying big Dave Butz out of the endzone to avoid a safety was impressive. Dorsett wasn’t know for power running but he proved to be a tough Emm Effer on that play.

Cowboys not taking a knee on the last play was odd

Mark Mosley's last year as a Redskin. Theismann the year before. And i think Riggins left in 86 also. Some of the legends fallin off.
