This is just unacceptable. Certain people just shouldn't be teachers especially teaching special needs students. I know I had my share of teachers and authority figures that treated me unfairly. I hope these kids can overcome their fears and be happy again someday.

I feel ya. I hated school. Most teachers treated me like I was dumb as well as had special needs and it was horrible. Just to clarify I do not have special needs, but because I talk different due to vocal cord damage people assume special needs.They forced me to do speech therapy and other things which I really did not need. Sucks for them because they never got to see my potential. College was better. I took a few refresher courses, math and english because most courses that lead you to your career path of choice needed those classes. I was getting A’s and B’s, and even was asked to help my professor out by going around and helping the other students if they needed help and helping her get stuff she needed done.

I'm on the autism spectrum and I was abused by a aide. I never told my parents about it because at that time I couldn't express or communicate. I feel for anyone who has been in situations like this. It's scary. Teachers and aides need to have a heart for students with disabilities.

As someone who was physically restrained in a supposed autistic friendly school I was once physically restrained by being *SAT* on my arms and legs when I was in a bad mood and I wasn’t in the best of situations. I feel like my bones in legs and arms were going to break because of how painful it was. I got out of there eventually and I got transferred to a different autistic friendly school. After what I gone through I suffered from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) at one point. It wasn’t fun, at all. Even reflecting back on it now horrified me.

I've been through this too in Lubbock Texas years ago, when I was about 5 to 6 years old. And the teachers would put me in the closet covered with a gate and close the door a little bit, but just enough so I was fully in the dark and the sad thing was I never told my mom about it either, which was sad and also because she probably wouldn't have believed me at that time and this is an actual experience, and to this day it still haunts me and that's why I'm always scared of the dark, and have problems sleeping at night because of this. Every time I watch this video it just reminds me of what teachers like that used to do. And I was a visually impaired kid but I still knew that I was in the dark, because of the light that goes away. 😢 And I'm still dealing with this crap to this day, even in high school! It's ridiculous.

From Kindergarten through 6th Grade, I personally was enrolled in such a school, Hillside Academy, in Hillside, Illinois. That school was physical. With their restraints, two teachers would grab a student, pull him out of his seat or out of the corner, take him to an area of the classroom without desks nearby, kick his feet out from under him, slam him down on the floor, and lay on top of him like he were a bed or couch.

That's awful and stupid. They should have gently and slowly trained you to look at a person face (no need to look in the eyes, I don't do it and no one ever told me it's a problem, I am almost 33). Brutalizing you was the best way ti ensure you won't feel good looking people in the eyes

No school should use physical punishment against students unless peoples lives are in danger or they’re defending themselves if you work in special Ed or with children in general the most important rule is take the time to really understand students need because everybody’s different
@Plasmafox Жыл бұрын
That's exactly how they get away with it though. That's how it's always recorded in the paperwork, you were violent so they restrained you. What really happens is you get too many Bad Child Points meaning you get locked in the isolation room for an hour. They twist your arm behind your back and push you in, and you can only return to class once you perform a ritual and write an apology saying it was your fault. If you resist at any point you're being "aggressive" and they get to use that as an excuse to restrain you, holding you down against the floor until you stop struggling. Children as young as first grade experience this.

I spent ten years in special ed. Restraint was a punishment used when a child struggled while being put in a hold, shoved around, manhandled or when he was trying to get away from you because you hurt him. You people put "student was presenting a danger to others..." on the paperwork but it was only ever just corporal punishment. You torture kids for having autism
@Laz3rCat959 күн бұрын
That is true but when and how it is done is important. It should only be done to prevent imminent harm and should be done in a way that doesn't hurt the child.
