I was in that crowd for a high school trip. I often reflect on being there a lot these days. There was an energy and a sense of hope that I can't put it into words. Can't think of any other time where it was like that and felt by so many people in a single location, from my perspective anyway.

2008 was a different time where we could actually enjoy the words of a President that knew what he was talking about, and did so with such honour. Obama was President during the 2008 recession and that must not have been easy.

Iam from South Sudan 🇸🇸 when President Obama was running for presidency in 2008 I was inspired by his yes we can slogan, and above the inaugural speech was magnificent in fact it is like a summary of what America has done and going to keeps doing g in the future I regarded this as one of the greatest speeches in American history today King Luther and JFK and indeed I can acknowledge that America 🇺🇸 is a place of genius especially in electing leaders. Congratulations, throughout my medical school keeps watching his addresses he made during his tenure and they have made me a better student. God bless the land that accommodates all dreams.

At 19:16, a true politician and diplomat aware to the sensitivities of the Right. Obama closes his speech saying, "the father of our nation ORDERED THESE WORDS....." which were read to the American troops at Valley Forge to inspire them to continue fighting for independence despite their terms being expired, to volunteer to remain in the army. Those beautiful and stirring words were Thomas Paine's from his first article of his, "The American Crisis", 1776, but Obama did not credit Paine, he merely referred to Washington, "ordering these words be read". Why? Could it be that it was because Paine was universally hated for his ridicule of Christianity, his promotion of deism and arguments against institutionalised religion in general and Christian doctrine in particular? Obama appeared to be specifically careful to ensure he did not offend the Christian Right. Interestingly, Paine's writing, despite his deism, invoked God, possibly strategically, as his goal was to give heart to the people in their fight against the British.
