Wasim Akram is a phenomenon. What you saw here was reverse swing. An art really well used by Pakistani Bowlers. The batsmen guessed the ball would go the other way but it swung the opposite direction hence called reverse swing. That's why the guy left it and hit the stumps.

Guys one thing about the West Indies crowd. They were not upset with the umpiring. They were jeering and getting upset because of how loud and excessively Pakistan kept appealing for the LBWs 😂 the west indies never ever go against their own team. Back in the days, when the great fastmen of West Indies would hit a batsman with a bouncer and they retired hurt, the crowd would shout out "kill him man" when the next batsman would walk out 😂😂😂😂

Disagree. Was a good era but not the best. For fast bowling never seen an era like the one where Dennis Lillee, Richard Hadlee, Michael Holding, Imran Khan. Garth Le Roux, Andy Roberts, Malcom Marshall, Joel Garner, Jeff Thomson, Rodney Hogg, Pascoe, Bob Willis, Colin Croft and Wayne Daniel were all going around similar time. Crash helmets first started being trialled in World Series Cricket. Wasim Akram of the 90's era is the most skillful bowler I seen after Lillee and Hadlee. Viv Richards, Greg Chappell, Gordon Greenidge , Sunil Gavaskar, Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad, David Gower, Geoff Boycott and Graham Gooch had to deal with toughest era to face fast bowling. Allrounders of this era like Ian Botham, Imran Khan, Kapil Dev and Clive Rice were very good too although it would be a stretch to say Richard Hadlee was an allrounder. He was late order good hitter of boundaries like a Starc but not a true allrounder like Botham was of that era. What the 1990's had over late 70's and early 80's was amazing leg spinner such as Shane Warne. In the era of great fast bowlers of late 70's and early 1980's I can only recall Abdul Qadir being a leg spinner, It was the era fast bowlers were king especially with West Inides having four of them at once most games.

Most of the decisions were actually correct guys. You need to look at the LBW rules again. A few of them struck the batsman outside of the line of off stump = not out (if the batsman is playing a shot). Most of the balls that struck the batsman in line would have missed leg stump. Balls swinging that much and strike in line are going to swing down leg side. Generally the amount the ball is swinging makes it almost impossible to give an LBW decision. Listen to the commentators they are agreeing with the umpires. One commentator in Michael Holding (one of the best fast bowlers of all time) and he calls it as he sees it. You will always get the truth from him. Have a watch again with these things in mind.

Most of the decision were correct because ball was swinging a lot and most cases it is missing the stumps and in the swinging conditions umpires have to keep in mind that how much it will swing depending upon the situation. This is an incredible umpiring. Please don't criticise just for the sake of criticising. These days bowlers are not able to swing at all in comparison with what bowlers used to do in 90's and 2000's which resulted in missing leg stumps most often then not.

this message is for you Gabe and nick, with a lot of respect and love. I get the feeling that you guys might skip the test series between mind vs aus. I will give you 3 reasons to erase that thought as fast as you can and get your seatbelts on: 1. This is the top two test teams in the world, the best of the best talent will be on display. Since you are new to the game, you would not want to miss the best quality of cricket. It will be far better than anything else you have watched till now. 2. The Australian cricket summer is a treat to watch. With the broadcast of best quality, high quality image and commentary. and some of the most iconic and beautiful grounds in the world. 3. It would be hard for any Australian team to go through a test series of such high intensity without any confrontation or controversy, especially when you add a fiery character like VIRAT KOHLI in the mix. So there will be an extra spice to it. So after these reasons I hope you do not miss it, if you guys wish to watch the best quality of cricket. And it will be absolute pleasure and joy to watch such a test series alongside you guys. it will be twice as much fan ss we had watching IPL with you .

Nick, at 8:30 you ask "how does he get that kind of swing?" and the answer is "he doesn't". This delivery is a perfect example of SEAM bowling, not SWING bowling. The difference - "Swing" is the ball curving in the air (like a curve ball in baseball). "Seaming" is when the ball deviates off the pitch because the raised stitching on the seam of the ball can make it deviate if you bounce it just right (especially when the ball is new and hard). In that delivery, Akram slams the ball into the pitch short, with the seam in an upright position, so when it hits the pitch, it jags back on an angle. So short story - in pace bowling 'swing' is movement in the air, 'seam' is movement off the pitch. Sometimes a ball can swing and seam on the same delivery. Nightmare for a batsman!

To answer one of your question how is he getting that swing? Its all about gripping the ball, the thumb, middle and index finger play the trick. What I learned and got decent at it was for right hand batsman: out swing was to put pressure on index finger and tilt wrist towards the slips( aka catcher next to wicket keeper). For in swing: i use to put pressure on my middle finger and tilt the wrist towards the batsman. Worked well for me…

For years after that he was a much mocked figure. Just remember guys regarding LBW - the umpire has to be 100% sure that it’s out. Any doubt, ANY DOUBT, and the umpire is obliged to give it not out. Most of these ‘look’ out, but most are ‘doing too much’ ie swinging past the stumps or bouncing over the stumps. And again, if the umpire isn’t 100% sure it’s hitting the stumps, or it’s pitched in line, or hit the batsman in line, or if he has hit the ball with the bat - it HAS to be not out. Also Nick - the quality of the appeal is meaningless to whether it is out or not. 11 men screaming their heads off is the EXACT same as the bowler politely asking Is it ?.

I’d say that there was only one bad decision here with the missed caught behind, and one other really close lbw. For some reason you seemed to think that every single one should have been given out - a test match wouldn’t last more than a day or two if this were the case. Try listening the commentary to try and understand why they were not given out. If the umpire isn’t 100% certain then saying not out is the right thing to do, think most cricket fans will agree on that.

The umpiring wasn't that bad. I noticed in one particular ball, it was swinging radically, and it hit the pad adjacent to the stumps, and the batsman was playing forward, and Nick was like 'how is that not out'. Forget about the ball being directly in front of the stumps when it hits the pad, look at trajectory, could that ball have kept swinging and gone past the stumps without hitting them? Guys, the ruling on lbw decisions is "any doubt must be judged in the favour of the batsman". In other words, if there is any doubt, it is not out. How can there not be doubt when the ball is swinging that much? Look at it, watch it again, and tell me that those balls are not swinging wildly.... Wasin Akram is a victim of his own ability to swing the ball. But, There is no way that you can blame the umpire for that.

He was swinging it too much, half of these were missing leg wicket to the left hander. Either way the umpires had to give the benefit of the doubt to the batsman, umpire cant be giving people out because the ball might hit the wicket. The reason the umpire was giving the majority of wickets was because the amount of swing makes it to hard to judge, benefit of the doubt will always go to the batsmen. Part of the reason we know have DRS, but apparently it doesn't work at all so we should ditch DRS. No matter what the ICC does no one will be happy. India is the main one against DRS and also day night tests. India may have invigorated cricket in the 80's but they are currently killing cricket all because they want to be in control of international cricket, which at this point they are.

There has not been a better FAST bowler in world cricket after 1985 than wasim akram. If someone mentions any other name as the best bowler after that he is simply being biased. PERIOD.

@@varunmohan3760 a great bowler definitely but not even close to what wasim could do. He was a magician with the ball.

Wasim Akram was known for excessive appealing. Sometimes it went against them. There is a lot of swing going on in this game. Some are legit umpire mistakes here but a lot of balls would have gone outside the stump, its just hits the pads on line

I think you guys get a bit over excited when you see close LBW calls and think they’re all out, I don’t think any of the close calls were actually out. You forget about there are 3 factors to a LBW decision

Welcome to cricket in the era before DRS. I reckon 80% of those appeals were out and I was supporting West Indies. The umpiring was shocking in this series. Jimmy Adams did hit that one at the end- he looks straight back at the keeper and looked guilty. Pakistan were robbed of this match and series because of the umpiring. Remember also this was in the era before mandatory neutral umpires- the umpires are West Indian here. Interesting fact- Chris Gayle played in this series, was his 2nd test series and 20 years ago.
