If you're not artistically inclined and there's a university in your area with an art department, you can also get student art a lot cheaper than most galleries, and it's still really good professional quality. And you'll be supporting a new artist in their career.

Just like how people paint a "vintage" item, then chip and remove paint to achieve "shabby chic." But people had, you know, pride in the old days. They would not have been caught dead letting company see a trashy armoire or anything they owned!

Cheryl Conibear, also anything actually old would have led in the paint so it’s dangerous to have it be chippy.

Those round tufted pillows are vintage! My great aunt made them for me when I was a kid in the 1950's. I love your videos, BTW and I especially love how grumpy you get. Cracks me up.
@rmonson5002
@rmonson5002 3 жыл бұрын
Yup, my grandma had those round pleated pillows with the button in the middle in turquoise velvet back in the day. I bought a vintage red one out of sentimentality. But now they are making cheap knock offs at HomeGoods and if you have had the vintage ones you can really tell the difference. They don't have the weight and heft of the originals. And the fabric is super cheap and flimsy. But reproductions are never as good as the real deal. IMHO.

@@rmonson5002 I don't live in the US any longer so I don't go to any of the stores Paige talks about. I would just cry if I saw the cheap knock-offs of these pillows. My great Aunt Dorothy (a former flapper) spent hours making them of us. How I would love to just have saved one of them.

@@nancybailey4794 Oh, wow. That is such a great story! Where did your great Aunt live? I know how you feel. I wish I had my grandma's turquoise ones. There are so many family things I think back on and wonder what happened to them and wish I still had them. Although my mom did keep a lot of family heirlooms. And yes, the knock off pillows would make you sad. They are super flimsy and cheap looking in my NOT so humble opinion! They look like macarons! Ha!

@@rmonson5002, I had two very eccentric great aunts that lived in Southern CA, Santa Monica, and Malibu. They were amazing women for that generation. I grew in Northern CA but have lived in Guatemala for 29 years. After one of Paige's videos about not buying trendy stuff, I looked around my house and realized everything I own is directly from artists, weavers, and craftspeople. I really enjoy Paige, so refreshing. And I love her snarky style!

@@nancybailey4794 Really?! That is wild, my grandfather managed a dance hall on the border of Venice & Ocean Park in the 1920's. Something tells me that possibly your great Aunts and my grandparents crossed paths back in the day! Six degrees of separation holds true. My mom grew up in Santa Monica and my cousins still live in Los Angeles.

I did the half walls instead of the arch. As you mentioned, the arch feels “too trendy”. I only painted the walls surrounding my bed (small room in Chicago as well). Then, on a wall that wasn’t painted I painted the closet doors to match the half walls (the whole closet door, not half). It looks great, really completed the look. I also love painted doors... hopefully Pinterest and TikTok don’t ruin that for me.

In short, interior design shouldn't be based on trends cuz insides of houses will be as cookie cutter as outsides of houses. Figure out what sort of timeless jumping off point you want to work from & then dial up the levels of eclectic, whimsy, and so on until you get to what you like. Like I'm almost 25, still living at home and I have several colored fairy lights around my room, one cuz my eyes like dimmer lighting and two I'm still a child at heart. Does it look particularly good? Eeh meh. Does it make me happy? Yes! I know if I can ever afford to buy a house, its going to be just as dumb & quirky looking. _Its about finding comfort and gaining joy from how you've personalized your space_ . Just try not to do obnoxious projects that make it hard for the next person(s) to redesign/renovate after, if you are to move out.

I made my daughter's headboard. I got a piece of plywood and 2 - 2x4s, some batting material and fabric from Joann's. I had some spray paint on hand and used that for the 2x4s. We've changed out the fabric 3 times as she's grown older. Fairy garden, black and white damask, and now a white velvety material with gold stars. I'm sure she will have this headboard for years to come until she gets a bigger bed. She loves being able to change out the fabric with her moods. LOL.

People love someone who is confident. This girl has it so much I followed her for the attitude. We need to help promote women who are confident and sure of themselves. We need more girls who have this strong attitude, especially if politics! (I’m still a little Prudie on the language for the title, but I like her attitude so much I’m ignoring the language--because she’s awesome.) She is really sure of what she is saying and I am so here for it. #GRLPower
