My daughter works for a bakery. The bakery has a program with the local food bank to unload their surplus pastry to give to the homeless people. On Christmas day, they threw away 35 perfectly fine Christmas theme cakes just because no one at the food bank worked on Christmas day. And the bakery has a corporate policy not to sell Christmas cake after Christmas nor employees can take home any surplus food. Each cake sells for US$40 and they ended up in the dumpster.

Look for a PBS news program named “Frontline”. The episode titled “Plastic Wars” first aired in March 2020 talks about how recycling plastic is just a lie. It was just marketing propaganda to sell more plastics. Recyclable is NOT the same as recycled for real. Google it, it may still be available on PBS website.

i would very strongly urge the people at waste management to do a much better job of very strongly and effectively advocating for the extremely important need to make mandatory recycling a much more common practice. the way i think we can do this is by making mandatory recyclling containers at many more sporting venue's,concert venue's restaraunt's,bar's and retail store's amuch more common practice than what we are currently doing. Doing so would greatly reduce the enormopus amount of unnecessary waste and save the government ten's of billion's of dollar's. we really need to do so

+Benjamin Yeung There was an onslaught of refuse incineration projects proposed back in 1980's that never got off the ground due to risks of known and unknown toxics and carcinogenic release to the air, voluminous risk analysis studies resulting in prohibitive costs, etc... If you were around during the 80's, you must have heard of NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard). Nice concept but no one wants it in anywhere near their homes, in their cities or states.
@cplai7 жыл бұрын
The biggest concern for burning would be the toxic emission and by products unless you can totally burn those away too. I have another video for that. See kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZPShHeCd7tkpNU
@mafu906 жыл бұрын
Flue gas cleaning for waste incineration is working just fine over here for all those pollutants. You end up with bottom ash that is often used in street construction, and flue ash (dust) which contains the harmful contaminants and is being deposed safely. As a sideline you end up with just a fraction of the original volume. The argument of global warming is also boneless, because the methane from landfills will either be burned as shown, or will (and it will) find a way through the top layer of the landfill. Methane is much worse than CO2 considering its greenhouse warming potential. Also, trash is by far not 100% fossil (only the plastic, basically), the rest thats not of fossil origin and burns can be considered biomass.

It's good to know that they harvest the methane gas to provide electricity to power 6,500+ homes, but I wonder how much electricity could be produced, and how many houses it would power if they burned all that trash instead of burying it in the ground. I don't think anything is permanently impermeable, and it wouldn't surprise me if they find out in 50 years that the membrane they laid out to prevent leeching into the soil and water table broke down and failed to perform its intended job.
@cplai3 жыл бұрын
I agree that the liner at the bottom of the landfills may fail in the future and cause contamination. But on the other hand burning all the trash (like how Tokyo does it), can release some toxic gas into the atmosphere too. My channel has another video on using plasma to disintegrate all traces of the wastes.
@AutotechWoodworking3 жыл бұрын
@@cplai I'm going to have to check out your channel. I would have hoped there was a process in place to eliminate, or at least reduce, toxic gas emissions , much like catalytic converters did to reduce carbon dioxide and unburned hydrocarbons from automobile exhaust in the 70s. After reading an article about cemeteries earlier today, it stated that cremation results in toxic gases being released into the atmosphere. Since that issue apparently hasn't been addressed in that field yet, I'm guessing that there's not much in effort in the field of waste management. However, after watching the following video, there is hope that zero emissions can be achieved when burning trash: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2XVaJlvoM1-bZI. However, the video does not state how Sweden is able to produce hardly any pollution

@cplai7 жыл бұрын
Many cities in the US choose to bury the garbage in the landfill. Probably because they can still find land to do so. I know in Tokyo Japan, there is no trash can on the street because everyone is supposed to carry their trash home and dump in your own trash can because garbage incineration service is very expensive and you need to pay for your own disposal service. No one in Japan litters either. It would be a dishonor to burden the city or other people with your own trash.
