Sam, you have some serious torch skills. I’ve used one for many years and still looks like drunk ray charles in action. Craftsman at work.

Excellent! I'm inspired. Going to build an oil burner tomorrow. It is just about 8 pm and I'll need a few things from the hardware. Thank you for sharing. Happy welding 😁

Thinner inside “hot stack” is better. It will heat up faster and glow red hot making for a more complete and cleaner burn.

Hi, very nice one. You are wasting big part of the potential fuel since you have no fan blower for efficient combustion. I built similar one with a fan blower and does not smoke at all.

I like the whole build and how you built everything from scratch except the cheap door hinges. I think you should make your own hinges or get barrel hinges and make a glass door for it.

I ordered a bullet hinges for the heat but it was like 2 week out so ended up using that hinges from local hardware store because I was in a hurry of upload the video on youtube.

NOT good. You need to use thin steel/Stainless for the burning chamber. 1/4 will NEVER heat up hot enough and burn right.

Try getting more air to the burn chamber...make sure burn chamber is really hot before introducing the oil drip. Nice fab work! Just tweaking now.

Welding cast iron is risky as it is a low carbon alloy and doesn't hold well when welded. It gets brittle. You should go to a plumbing supply and get steel elbows.

Great video I've got to build one.A few questions do you need that thick of steel or would it be safe using thinner Guage also do you get any smell from burning old oil that could stink up your shop and how vouch oil just an estimate would you use to run it for say 4 or 5 hours straight. Could you leave it unattended or is it something that should be constantly monitored ,can you let me know thanks for sharing this video Dale
@samsgarage4538

I would build another one with same thick steel 3/8" wall. The heat can get hot like up to 1000 + degree so go heavy if you build one. The right fuel drip the heat burn clean no smell. thank you for your positive comment.

The heat burn really clean. Here in the US most industrial shop use waste oil heater as well. A couple of time I had fix and maintanence the unit that how I came up with idea of building my own. Waste Oil Heater will never made in Commerical building if it isn't safe.

the heat is made out of 12" pipe schedule 40 30" long. Top and Bottom caps is 3/16" thick. Burn Pot is made out of A36 4"X8"X8 3/4" to fit the opening of the heat chamber. The air intake on the burn pot is 5" schedule40 pipe 8" tall.
