Thanks for the video! I had the exact same problem and took it to the stealership before watching your vid. They quoted me $3500 for replacing the entire turbo!! Currently removing the actuator and getting it welded. God bless brother!!

For everyone watching this, do NOT buy a new one. Remove the broken unit and piece. Go have it TIG welded buy a local guy. Took me 15 minutes to take it off and 10 to put it back on after the welding was complete. For the record, I didn't weld it myself because I don't have a TIG setup at home or at work, but I will soon. LOL Also, you don't need to remove the shield. I took mine off and reinstalled it without removing anything else.

There’s plenty of people who have said this same exact thing lol also it’s helpful to remove it but a pain. If you watch it I start to remove it and stop. Definitely put a video showing the way you did it. I went into this without a video or anything. Thanks for watching the channel. Subscribe because I sold the car and I have something different not enough power for me 😬

Great video! Found out that's my problem. Was initially worried it was the actual turbo unit. Sure enough, mine is broke just like yours...

I just welded mine with s harbor freight 125 flux welder. Had to take the coolant line off was 4 bolts then clip the ground on it. Did a few spot welds then hit it for 5 extra seconds. It glowed red cooled. Went for a ride back to its old zippy self.

True! That’s great to hear you welded. No experience welding for me but I still have the part so who knows maybe I can find someone then I’ll I have two

@@TraeNelsonScott go get a cheap wire feed. Take the coolant pipes out of the way. Clamp the ground and hold the 🔫 about a half inch away and tap the trigger for a quick 2 count. It should tack weld then hit the trigger a few more longer say 5 count times moving back and forth down the rod and the tab a little. That's all. Just took it 80mi up hills and all runs like before and lights went off on own. It took all of 20min all in.

@@jeffi5116 word! Lol I need to get a weld gun from harbor freight I checked out the one you mentioned. It should be even easier for me since it’s out of the car already.

Can you do this on a 2017 jetta???? Need help bad big homie.
@TraeNelsonScott Жыл бұрын
You should be able to. It's in the same location behind the engine where the turbo is located on the 1.4.

Yup sounds about right. How many miles? Mine snapped at 80k. Just make sure you have the car calibrated or else its still going to show it’s stuck
@PistonPerspective3 жыл бұрын
@@TraeNelsonScott it’s got 132k miles, i got a turbo off a tsi with 90k coming on Friday to install for $230usd with the wastegate already calibrated so that’s going in. Also going to do some carbon cleaning at the same time

@@PistonPerspective great to hear you found a whole set up the cost of the Wastegate really is close to the same price! Good decision ✅

Nice man you made it to a milestone! Lol but there’s a couple different ways you could fix it the first one is just buy a new one the second is if you know how to weld you could go that route. I don’t know how to weld so I bought a new one due to urgency. I may weld my old one before the year ends just to do it.

@@TraeNelsonScott i got a buddy that welds so ima ask him. Got a couple days off this week so it’s good timing i guess lol
