Hi there
@seanortigoza39315 жыл бұрын
I was just 6 years old when I first saw how majestic this eagle was. We used to live in the middle of a coconut and rice fields surrounded by exotic fruit trees. Unfortunately, the rice fields got infested by marsh rice rats (not sewer rats! eww). This incredible bird would just sit on top of a tree like a sniper patiently waiting for its next target and after every successful hunt, he would just stare at me with those beautiful eyes like he's saying something like, "Hey, I took care of the infestation for ya. Don't mind me, I'm just enjoying my meal.". I wish I could go back in time and experience that again.

Fun fact: one of the reasons for the Philippine Eagles extinctions is due to its loyalty with it's partner, they say if said partner dies, the other partner will not even try to find and replace the partner it lost, it will prefers to die alone in old age than find another... Sounds poetic and loyal, but due to this behavior it's hard to regrow the population of these species... I'm from the Phils and yeah I've been to the places where they preserve the eagles, you don't get to see a lot of them.... I've seen one at very old age being very solitary, they said it's partner died 8 years ago, and it changed his attitude drastically.

This reminded me of a sad story about a Philippine eagle name "Pamana" 3 years ago. She was shot back in 2012 and she was rescued, nursed... In April 2015 she was finally released back into wild. 2 months after that she was found dead with a gunshot on the chest. The whole country was infuriated and mourned her death. All the efforts and hardwork of the people in the sanctuary, gone just after 2 months. I hope people will learn from it, I'm just not sure if those poachers responsible were caught. 😢 "Pamana" btw means heritage, a legacy something like a gift your parents would give you in hopes that you will take good care of it. But it became just like that, killing Pamana was like losing a prized Jewel handed to you by your ancestors. You can check her story out here in KZbin. 😖

their numbers will rise when there is no threat to their population. >>> What are the primary threats to its population? Deforestation is the biggest threat to the species’ continued existence. A pair usually chooses to nest in large dipterocarp trees, and needs roughly 4,000 to 11,000 hectares of forest land (with an abundance of prey) to survive. In fact, the sight of this raptor often suggests a healthy, balanced forest ecosystem. As expected, illegal logging, resource depletion, global heating, and other contributors to the ongoing climate crisis are making things worse for the species. Aside from those, other major threats to the Philippine eagle are shooting and trapping; it is said that at least one eagle is killed per year because of shooting. And for a critically endangered species, that’s one too many.

I remembered going to The Philippine Eagle Conservation Center in Davao City for a school field trip when I was a kid.. There was a HUGE Philippine Eagle that was preserved and placed in a glass box and was displayed in all her regal form, looking like it was just there perching on a tree branch. We were made to watch the history of the conservation center, why it was founded in the first place, and the importance of the Philippine Eagle in the ecology and the conservation of the forest.. I remember being so awed even as a mere child. I think it was my catalyst for being such a loud and active environmentalist as I grew up. By the end of the tour, we were shown the story of how that preserved Philippine Eagle got there inside the glass box (aka how it died), and I remembered crying so hard and feeling so hurt, asking why would people do such cruel things as shooting an innocent bird out from the sky, when it was probably just doing its own thing, or on its way to her nest and back to its partner.. It hurts to think that these eagles mate for life and would prefer to die alone than mate again.. The people in the center said that the bird was with egg when it was shot down by local pouchers. I remembered these memory so clearly that its the only thing I rememberee from the entire, supposedly fun, field trip. The story of that eagle was probably the start of my slow degradation and disillusionment in humanity.

That is tragic and ignorant if someone killed one of these eagles. Anyone who misuses guns should lose their license. In this kind of case they should lose it permanently. If it's an endangered species or national animal or ecologically crucial then there should be a cooperative global lockout on their gun registrations. I have been to Davao and I didn't know about this conservation center! That is really cool, thanks. Hopefully faith in humanity will get better somehow, someday real soon lol

There are some celebrities who do increase awareness and help conservation efforts like Born to Be Wild, Jessica Soho, Howie Severino, Dingdong Dantes, Kuya Kim and Drew Arellano to name a few. The new generation of so called "celebrities" will hardly touch this because it is not a huge clout and they will just gain bare minimum clicks. Grinding shirtless or in the skimpiest clothes twerking is more of their go-to gains rather than promoting endangered species and saving the last Philippine forests.

Historically, about 50 Philippine eagles have been kept in zoos in Europe (England,Germany, Belgium, Italy and France), the United States, and Japan The first was a female that arrived in London Zoo in August 1909 and died there in February 1910.The majority arrived in zoos between 1947 and 1965. The last outside the Philippines died in 1988 in the Antwerp Zoo where it had lived since 1964 . The first captive breeding was only achieved in 1992 at the facility of the Philippine Eagle Foundation in Davao City, Philippines, which has bred it several times since then. -From Wikipedia. :)
