I think it doesn’t start out like that but owners fall on hard times get very sick themselves, then they like the resources of how to get help. I’ve always taken care of my animals, but I’ve known many people who fell on hard times they end, or the animal were sick. They did not have the ability to meet their needs and they also didn’t know where to turn to for help, if you have ever tried to help somebody rehome it even a dog or a cat the shelters the only places that will take them and they won’t commit to a rehoming, so how does it happen? It happens one day one week at a time and they don’t see the difference because each day doesn’t look that much further but then you walk in and you’re like holy cow. This is a nightmare scenario, we have so few resources for people if you don’t have support if you fall on hard times this is horrible and should never happen but I don’t think that anybody planned to do this. We need to offer people options and alternatives. There is barely an option for people to surrender their own infants when they are in the most dire of situations this is sad I’m very grateful the people in the video were able to step up but when we shred our social safety nets people have no more resources and then they hate them selves and it becomes harder and harder to look the animals, they care for in the eye, and that just leads to more neglect, but vilifying of the person who neglected this without keeping in mind the system that gave them no alternatives doesn’t prevent it from happening again strengthening social safety, nuts, and helping people with options when they are no longer able to care for their animals their children or even themselves this is what is needed. .

The sling they had him standing in was another great way to help him, many people maybe not you but horses can roll on the ground-itching themselves in the mud or dirt, but for a horse to be down on the ground for a long period of time is very hard on their way of breathing most a lot of the ribs are so heavy it can crush the bottom lung and their back hip joints, I would say for sure 🫶🏼🐎🐴🏇🧲

my daughter has a horse rescue and everyone of the horses she's brought to our farm have thrived , but one ( he had been starved for yrs ) but he was loved and fed and cared for for three months , a inoperable tumor the size of a basketball , finally took him. Our horses are loved and they love us .

Most people who do this are overwhelmed by the ability to care for their animals. My youngest daughter works in the Department of Aging Services for the county where we live. She often has clients with animals they cannot care for, or are animal hoarders. It is sad. I agree it is horrible that this happens, especially for the animals. But, the causes are usually deeper than just being bad people.

I would not be able to help myself from taking out someone who did this to another living being. She said "" they"" werent feeding him. So more than one individual was responsible for that innocent magnificent creature's suffering. How bout we have a meeting with them,, their asses meeting my foot. This makes me so angry. But we let 36,000 of our children die every single day of starvation so I guess it's not surprising that we also let beasts of burden supper so either. Not a proud moment for humanity

So sad this happend more than you know, thank you for saving him. My wife and I rescued a 20 year old mare quarter horse several years back, nursed her back to health, she was about 250-300 lbs or more under weight skin & bones and sick from mal nutrition, they were feeding her bedding straw!! after calling the vet and farrier and much work she came back beautiful! I am a retired police officer with over 30 years experience and have witnessed many tragedies. What always tore at my feelings was to respond to calls were animals that been brutality abused that had no means to protect themselves from those actions. In a few instances I had to euthanize some animals to relieve their suffering ,as they were on the brink of death with no chance of recovery .That bothered me and generally made me extremely angry that people will harm animals or neglect with no conscience. Thank you for saving Dasher , I hope that he has a long and pleasant life.

People do it through total ignorance. When my neighbour was alive he had two horses that he never fed. They lived on the same old patch for years. So thin. People reported him to the RSPCA but he was never punished. One horse died. Then when my neighbour died his children asked if I wanted the other horse. She was in a similar situation to this horse. She was checked by a vet. There was absolutely nothing wrong with her. I fed her up slowly and within a couple of moths she was absolutely gleaming. She has a good retirement now and she is with my little herd of misfits, surrounded by love, and a good feed twice a day. ❤

Such a close call! Why do people do that to animals? I just melted when I saw him flop down with a mouth of food. He looked so relieved and happy, like he could see the point of living again. Glad he had the strength to pull through.

I've seen rescue videos dozens of times and each time I'm always amazed by the resilience these animals have. They're fighters, they never give up and are forgiving. They can love and trust again no matter how awful they were treated. I'm always in awe. The way the world is today I'd much rather share my space with animals than humans. 😮❤

I wish I could understand why people think it's okay to have an animal in their backyard that starving. I mean we're all born with the same internal organs or at least most of us. They have a brain or the heart and yet they're so very different then you and I. I couldn't sleep at night, I couldn't live with myself knowing that for my animals not eating. Isn’t good, but the circumstances are endless. Could be the owner got too old to take care of it or even died and the spouse didn’t know how and/or was too old to continue the care. It’s sad but often this isn’t usually because the own doesn’t care.

I have never cried as hard as I did for this beautuful horse. He was so near death...bless you for saving his life. By all means he should never have made it but he knew that you loved him.
