The test was wrong. They used a Metal and plastic dummy, they wasted thousands of dollars of probably Tax Paid research using the wrong dummy. My Phantom 3 Standard did a deep cut on my arm because I stupidly tried to grab it from the air. That scar has been there for like 4 months, the blades are sharp to make deep cuts. If you send a drone towards a person fast enough the blades would not cut them much they will just break. I grabed the drone mid air and it went to the side and it cut my arm. I am proud of my Scar because is a tattoo well made using something I liked haha. And it reminds me of the dangers of using drones around people.

Krizx600 My Aton quadcopter has aftermarket carbon fiber props that will cut you clear to the bone..if unfortunate enough to get in the way.
@SumsarTheThird7 жыл бұрын
yeah... i crashed a homebuild quadcopter with 15" carbon props into a barn once,. once side of one of the props had broken off while embedding itself deep in the wood. it was in so tight that i couldn't just pull it out again. so yeah, the propellers material is a determinative factor in this equation! Could you imagine a 2700kv motor with a carbon triblade on it ? if would make kebab of us mortals.

They just don't have enough mass or velocity, so this is BS. That said, a larger drone's blades would easily slice open someone's face or neck and do serious damage to the nose/eyes/lips/ears/throat (the latter of which could create a real bleeder).

Drones are already safe as long as the pilot isn't an idiot. Needless regulations...
@TheRoemer17 жыл бұрын
The risk I see from Drones (and yes, i'm a miniquad pilot) are not the G-Forces, it's cutting. Why has not one test portal (not even Mythbusters/Adam as I remember) done tests with a Raceminiquad and a Rubber dummy... Is it possible to cut through a neck with Propellers slicing through air at 37000+ RPMs... and every Pilot who has a friend, who has a friend, who has... we know these things cut, we've all seen the pics... but can it be deadly...?
@JboFPV7 жыл бұрын
TheRoemer1 If you held it there and intentionally tried to, possibly. However with the props they'll either break before it becomes lethal or bend, I've ran into my leg before and since it bent I didn't even have a cut, just a bruise.
@TheRoemer17 жыл бұрын
Jbo FPV hopefully your answer is true and we never have to hear from a killed quadpilot. Sounds like you were also very lucky... a friend of mine got cuts in the face deep to the bone because his quad armed and gave power when plugging in... so still not sure if it could be stron enough for the neck... thats why a test would be great ;)
@AnthonyMcAfee7 жыл бұрын
I'm sure it could be lethal depending on the props/motors/batteries you are using. 3S battery, weak motors, and bendy props probably wouldn't hurt you too badly, but 4S or 5S with really stiff props would probably do some damage. Kinda dumb that they didn't test that kind of thing in this test.

The conclusion is that a full speed drone hit on your head may cause injuries, therefore strict regulations will be applied. Of course those injuries are not as bad as getting hit by a full speed bycicle, which causes numerous deaths every year, but we are all used to that so no authorization is required.

Let's see. A hobby where you fly around in the air above people's heads, quite usually not over crowds of people, and with that tiny chance it randomly falls, on a random person, is so minuscule, it's not even funny. RD airplanes can weight 10x as much as these and they don't have the scrutiny. A drone is not going to fly into someone's head at 5 feet, it's going to fall down on them. Look for the impact of an object with a terminal velocity that's very low.
@macanix80727 жыл бұрын
