Surely there is nothing terrifying about this.....the monkey writes like a 3 year old, but now we know how, if the 3 year has Neuralink fitted will it trigger the same neurons...its just fantastical, maybe a monkey can't speak but it may learn to write to us to ask for what ever it wants and then could it teach other monkeys....the paradox of it is so exciting but surely not terrifying.....

This is so fascinating. Makes me feel better about many things actually hearing how it works. Also, a lot of these hate comments are due to surface level thinking. I encourage people to put their own perspectives aside, and think critically about many details they may not be taking into account. Something internet communication is really taking away nowadays. If people had more real life conversations with others challenging their opinions they’d see just how shallow many thoughts are. Don’t be married to your opinions, and don’t be so quick to come to some conclusions.

All technical things aside, this is amazing what it can do for those affecting devices telepathically, the danger is the idea that come into the brain and affect the brain. Something he touched on regarding maleficent ai. But even without ai certain types of content is detrimental to the human mind, a singular example being social media and it's relation to depression. Media consumption addictions and obsessions being another example, except in this case the person could be "always online". This technology they've developed is amazing regarding size and opoerability when you look at what has come out in the past for helping people who are quadriplegics. Given that no device has 100% uptime, I wonder how the monkeys respond when the Neuralink is not working -- do they exhibit confusion, disappointment, or an understanding that their telepathy powers are (temporarily) offline?
@justiceifeme
@justiceifeme Жыл бұрын
No, because they don't associate those abilities with the implant, they're not even aware they have it installed. They'd more realistically associate the telepathic abilities with the machines and computers that they directly interact with. Basically the monkeys think the Mac books are some how reading their thoughts and intentions (which is technically the case) but don't actually realize that it's a Chip in their brains that really does the magic.

People are in DESPERATE need of a "savior", and this is as close as it gets man. It should be obvious to you by now... Jesus is dead and gone man, he isn't "coming back", he hasn't done anything, he isn't going to do anything, it's time to accept the facts and stop living a fantasy.... Please wake up buddy, we gotta be real with ourselves.

Sarif was right about one thing. It's in our nature to want to rise above our limits. Think about it. We were cold, so we harnessed fire. We were weak, so we invented tools. Every time we met an obstacle, we used creativity and ingenuity to overcome it. The cycle is inevitable. In the past, we've had to compensate for weaknesses, finding quick solutions that only benefit a few. But what if we never need to feel weak or morally conflicted again? What if the path Sarif wants us to take enables us to hold on to higher values with more stability? One thing is obvious. For the first time in history, we have a chance to steal fire from the gods. To turn away from it now - to stop pursing a future in which technology and biology combine, leading to the promise of a Singularity - would mean to deny the very essence of who we are. No doubt the road to get there will be bumpy, hurting some people along the way. But won't achieving the dream be worth it? We can become the gods we've always been striving to be. We might as well get good at it. - Deus Ex Human Revolution

Look kid , What Elon gets wrong is that Helios was a benevolent AI that helped humanity achieve peace and progress. My main criticism about Neuralink is that it would become obsolete like Sarif's mech augmentations because it would be superseded by Xenobot-based implants that don't require anti-rejection drugs. Also speaking of DX , does Elon really means to tell us that Neuralink can't afford a robotic arm for their demo and all they could achieve was a pong game that may or may not be connected to that poor monkey's brain?

The point of how much we'll learn about the brain from this device is a good one. Manipulation of the brain, to do all the things with Neuralink that we imagine, will take a greater understanding of how the brain works but the Neuralink itself will enable that understanding. It may also teach us some things with deep philosophical roots, like whether we really have free will. Given all we will learn, and the transhumanist potential, this will almost certainly be the most important invention in human history. Quite possibly, in human existence, future included.

My first impression is that these scientists have chosen what is to me a controversial perspective of approaching the problems they want to solve. But they are an impressive team of engineers and I can only dream at this point of working with (let alone contributing to) a project like this. I think the hardest part of this is explaining it in a way that justified the need to pursue this project. That has to be more difficult than finding the complex solutions to the problems they are trying to solve.
@catbert7

Justification is simple: It will be insanely profitable. Moral justification is also easy: It will cure numerous of the most debilitating illnesses in existence. And the final justification is that it is innovation, which humans are hard-wired to pursue. All the tech we have today came out of the same reasons. What would be hard to justify is NOT pursuing it.

@@PokeUrFace I agree there are no lower-case gods in the sense of super-powered deities. But there is a God, which can be known through natural reason. You might greatly profit from engaging with the 5 ways of St. Thomas Aquinas or other proofs for the existence of God, in case you hadn't have a chance to consider them yet. God bless!

I hope you get to meet Jesus dear. He brought life to my daughter when the doctors said she had 2 days to live. He rescued me when I got trafficked after I pleaded to him. He have been my family when I was abandoned. It's sad when folks say things out of ignorance, because when you get to truly know his power and friendship, he will never forsake you.

The idea that we must be very careful about animal welfare when doing these sort of experiments is so hypocritical for those who continue to eat animal meat. just pointing out absurdity when I see it.

@@Zeleny278 not advocating animal cruelty, quite the opposite, I think it’s great the care taken towards their animals. Just pointing out the general hypocrisy. Like how they have a safe space outside the square for the pig, but no thoughts given to the breakfast plate with strips of pig belly. Also not accusing anyone in particular here, only the hypocrisy of the worldwide status quo. I also ate meat for 27years until I made the emotional ethical connection to what I was actually doing.
