About 10 years ago, I was nursing a former Welsh nurse here in South Africa, a most fascinating woman who had been trained by someone who had been trained by Florence Nightingale herself. Her family came out here after the mining strikes in Wales, and stayed. She remembered this abdication, and she DESPISED King Edward VIII, and said so did most people in the United Kingdom when they found out. George VI was a very great King, overcame personal shyness and handicap to rally the nation. A good 2nd son!
