Regarding claims about the Legacy media how many of their stories have you actually disproven recently? @ Oh thank goodness. Truly, the level of vitriol, of pure loathing is insane. Below is TLDR. Wrath is so, so damaging, destructive, and cruel. And nobody thinks about it the way people used to. Only keep reading below if you want to read a personal story. lol. I don’t know how many people are truly Christian anymore, but when I was little I had a truly vile temper. A horrible temper. And I would let it carry me away on a wave of wrath where I would want to destroy things, wreak havoc, cause harm. That adrenaline rush felt GOOD, I can remember very clearly how it felt. Even at 7 I knew the list of the mortal sins, or the 7 deadly sins, but I never considered that any of them applied to me until the day I had to sit and do my first examination of conscience. The nuns gave us a two page list of maybe 50 simple sentences as a place to start and to show us ways to question ourselves. Simple things that a 7 year old could understand like “I get mad when my mom asks me to help my little brother while I’m watching tv” or “My friend has a game that I really want and my parents won’t buy it for me. It is not fair that he can have it and I can’t and it bothers me whenever we’re playing or talking to each other” It really was a great list to reach little kids how to take their internal temperature on the bad ways they react to thing that hurt their relationships and cause themselves misery. In the questions on that simple list I realized I had committed the deadly sin of Wrath multiple times in my little life. And I realized I now had to go into a confessional, get down on my knees on a kneeler on one side of a screen, and list all of those instances out loud to a man sitting on the other side of a screen in Persona Christie. Lots of people call it speaking to a middle man, but for us it’s not. It is Christ Himself on the other side of that screen, and if you think of it that way, Holy Moly does it put a whole different spin on the entire activity. I was going to be telling Jesus out loud all the times I had hurt someone because I wasn’t angry, I was filled with rage. And I HATED it. Boy did I hate it. I sat there on the day of my First Confession miserable and sweaty and shaky and wanting to bolt out of there. But my turn came and I went in there and I listed other minor things first, then I apologized and started listing the hateful things I’d done. I was crying by the time I finished. And then I heard a voice ask me if I was truly sorry, because I sounded ashamed and unhappy, and I said yes I was sorry. I told him that when i had to stop and think about my actions I realized how ugly they were and I shocked myself. He talked to me a little bit about changing the way I react to things, we talked for a few minutes about the things that made me angry. He told me I get angry when things don’t seem fair, and that is a good reaction - healthy anger - but wrath is never the proper answer to injustice because it makes us into monsters as bad as the ones we are fighting. Deep talk for a 7 year old, but it’s stuck for over 42 years, clear as a bell. And then I said my Act of Contrition where I say out loud that I’m sorry for hurting people, for offending God who is All Good, and I promised to make reparations and amend my life, and I heard the beautiful words that my sins were absolved. That was one of the top 10 most important days in my life. And I’ve made an effort since I was 7 to avoid wrath, and take a step back, pray for humility, love for other people, and guidance. My husband was also really good at wrath. lol. He’s Catholic too, but when we met in our 20s he’d never heard that explanation of it before. It changed the way he dealt with it too. And he never had Confession explained to him that way either, it made a big difference, and we have held ourselves accountable, and made it part of our kids lives, by making sure we go at least 4 times a year. Not as much as we should, but it’s incredibly helpful, beautiful and healing. And it keeps you mindful that every day you make choices in all kinds of situations, and you think about telling Christ out loud to a living ear what you’ve done. It changes a lot of actions you would otherwise take.
