Thank you for 40,000 Subscribers! ⚡ I'm very happy this channel is getting attention for the Autonomy & Electric future that I do truly think will change the game. I documented my Gaming adventures for the last 5 years (MasterOv if you didn't already know) and now I want a change (but still want to stay sitting down and talking to a camera lol) so I plan to document my Electric & Autonomous journey now for the next couple of years & plan to travel the globe to see what every country is getting up to with it & how it differs. Currently I'm putting too much time into this project though to do it all by myself so I will be hiring a Camera operator & editor (If your local to Hereford get in touch) but to do this we need funding for the channel. I spoke about getting sponsors (of which I have a couple lined up wanting) but so many people asked to try make it a Community Channel being funded by the community through Patreon. I love this thought so have started a Patreon for the channel to see if this is truly something we could do. It not only would give me more freedom to create content some brands wouldn't want to be associated with but also allows you all to get a say in the content and direct of the channel. - patreon.com/tesladriver Anyway let me know what you think of it all so for & if you want to become a Patron that would be amazing. Next month once this giveaway ends we will be running a giveaway for our Patrons. I hope from now in 3 years there will be a fully autonomous car available to buy, lets come back to this comment and see if it became a reality. Thanks! ⚡

The reason that it asks for you to move the wheel now even though your had/ arm should be applying enough force by having it rest on it I would assume is because of the recent stories of drunk people falling asleep with there hand on the wheel and the car keeps on driving and thinks they are paying attention because of the weight of their arm etc.

You talk about apples and i talk about peaches honey.. (unless an exception like rare old cars that do not have from factory safety systems but need approves and require special permission to be used on public roads) i thought you know by now that basic safety system like seat belts & airbags are mandatory for any modern vehicle by the driving laws & public transportation in any country, if you want to use a car on public roads must comply to basic safety rules.. so it can not be compared to autonomous pilot which is an extra optional feature an electric controlled unit programmed by humans to partially or fully take control of some car functions that replace lazy people which should get a bus or train instead if they don't want to drive on public roads so, is an optional pack not mandatory for all vehicles on roads ! And before we continue here i let you know i have driving license from 1994 -without any accidents and I'm not stranger to motorsport either i won few events starting from Go-karts, rally and up-hill climbing races from Europe.. So to keep it shortly : Autonomous driving and Autopilot on any car is only useful for people that suffer a form of handicap, are too drunk or wounded /affected by an injury, so is not mandatory is optional !

I dont think, that this is the fault of the EU (at least not all of this) Basically its important to have rules and regulations, especially in road traffic. For example: a self driving car, that indicates and drives between two lanes for a minute, is quite dangerous. To avoid that, they implemented the 5 second rule for lane changing. I think, that Tesla will improve its system, so that it fits the new rules and still works great. But for now, they just limited the things, the autopilot can do. What I want to say - I hope that its going to work better within the next few updates 😅

I recently looked into the new model 3 lease. Unless I read something wrong, it appeared that it was a closed end lease and that Tesla intended to use the returned cars for self driving taxi's in cities like New York and LA, so either those cars will be sitting and waiting for the bugs to get ironed out or Tesla will need to get moving on the (city) self driving improvements.

The steering regulation has something to do with "maximum lateral acceleration". Not range. They are basically limiting how fast / at which rate it can turn, not the total angle. I'm just not sure if the idea is "comfort" or "safety". For me, it's not good for anything... Just by reading all those UN R79 "proposals", where they are giving formulas for min or max values for all sorts of dynamic driving stuff, I become legitimately afraid of what implementing those proposals will do to the innovation process. Not everything that looks good on paper IS good in the complex, interwoven reality...
@thejayzed
@thejayzed 5 жыл бұрын
Shabazza84 yes exactly right. Ironically the lawmakers by limiting “maximum lateral acceleration” they are probably increasing the danger as that means that the cars are now more likely to quit steering during a higher speed tight corner, exactly when you have even less time to respond! Crazy stuff. Sadly if accidents happen, the media will just blame it on Tesla not these artificially imposed rules. Love the autopilot videos on this channel though and damn those roads are crazy narrow!

This is how it works on dual carriageways: - Lane changes depend on the curvature of the carriageway (This will work on all highways because they have a low curvature) - Nav on Autopilot also depends on the curvature, but requires it to be even more ideal (Will also work on all highways) And this safety implementation is because of the limited steering, of course. If they didnt do it this way, nav on autopilot might make some serious mistakes due to limited steering, oh like, who knows, taking you to Wales? * Edit: to clarify, if you change lanes to the left, WHILE the road is also curving left, it would require a lot more steering angle.

Misread the title as "how dangerous Tesla autopilot is" and wanted to suggest the exact title you actually put, very good title choice! :D this is not Teslas fault, the car is perfectly capable! it's most likely Germany's fault, who's mislead government might want to give the German companies an unfair advantage. instead they should subsidise a Tesla gigafactory in Germany, which would be the best way to preserve jobs, the goal they sadly seem to be willing to get people hurt for.

@Car Fli Have a look at the channel's older videos, you'll see it worked much better on roads like these until the latest update which was forced by the regulation. Tesla is further ahead than others because they use fleet learning. A neural net gets better at making decisions the more it gets trained, it needs to learn by making decisions over and over and figuring out which outcomes are preferable. The more people, the better the system gets, so by pushing the boundaries of Autopilot while taking control if it makes bad decisions, drivers make the system better.

The hand detection was very frustrating at first. The key is that it is measuring torque on the wheel as contact. If your hands are evenly spaced and not applying any torque on the wheel then it will warn you and not read that you are touching the wheel. I have found the best way to handle it is to just leave one hand on the wheel and allow it to slightly pull on the wheel the entire time. That torque on the wheel is what the car is sensing as your touch. It is one of the most frustrating features, but not hard to work with once you understand how it works.

AP got disabled on single carriageways (no physical divider) or dual carriageways with a narrow divider that may be confused for a lane because there is (at least at the moment) a risk that the neural net will interpret the opposing lane of traffic as a neighbouring lane to your right and attempt to merge you into oncoming traffic. AFAIK.
@tavi_chocochip
@tavi_chocochip 5 жыл бұрын
Victor Hugo There was recently a dash cam video of a guy in the US (I think) driving with Nav on Autopilot on a single carriageway, the camera saw an incoming lorry in the opposite lane and the AP suggested a… ahem… lane change. So I’m assuming that the neural network sometimes gets confused (particularly in curves, when oncoming traffic looks like cars in front of your car) and has trouble distinguishing between the back of vehicles, which it can trail in traffic, and the front, in which case it should stay the hell out of the way. Until it gets better at that, it’s disabled on those roads.
@dragonflame49
@dragonflame49 5 жыл бұрын
I don't think they were trying to restrict Tesla autopilot with the new rulings. Most of todays auto-steering in other vehicles besides Tesla only applies to highway/motorway(?) driving. So their reasoning is probably that in those situations you would want to limit how much the steering wheel could actually turn to prevent dangerous situations where the autosteering oversteers by malfuctions or otherwise. Kind of like the 747max airplanes being able to push down the nose of the airplanes when there were faulty readings and crashing because of it. This however does have a negative side-effect to the Tesla autopilot system and there should be either clarification or more in depth laws that would allow for more steering in applicable situations if it has been proven to be able to do so safely.

4:20 Hi, that's a single carriageway, not a dual carriageway. It's defined by whether or not there is a central reservation (such as a kerb, grass or barrier) and not the amount of lanes. For example, you can have 3 lanes in either direction separated by a painted line and it's a 60mph single carriageway or you can have 1 lane in either direction separated by a kerb and it's a 70mph dual carriageway. Thanks!

Not sure where you get the 2+1 definition of a dual carriageway from but the driver awareness course (ahem) says a dual carriageway is defined by separation not the number of lanes in either direction. That makes more sense. Strictly speaking therefore, a motorway is also a form of dual carriageway even though it generally has 3 lanes (or 4 on the new smart motorways). Also- £6 for half an hour and only get the miles you quote... I wanted to go Tesla 3 this year but not at that price ☹️

@Monkeh616
@Monkeh616 5 жыл бұрын
The road isn't 60, it's national speed limit, which is up to 60 on this class of road - but you must always drive at a speed safe for the road and conditions. It's a limit, not a target. There would be an immense number of signs if they applied a specific limit to each and every section of what are very variable roads. They are not designed, they are grown. The layout of these roads is not defined by some planning office, but by the terrain, existing pathways, landmarks, privately owned land.. I sometimes wonder what it must be like to grow up in a modern city and be totally ignorant of the real world. Drivers are expected to be capable of using their judgement and taking responsibility for their own actions.

Therefore, the national speed-limit on that road is only 60 mph (as shown in your video) as opposed to 70 mph which is true of dual carriage-ways (Motorways being a special type of dual-carriage way).
