It was not easier to use an induction heater directly on a lathe and align the blank with a heater and it would be reasonable to warm up and smooth out without cutting metal and then grind the place of rupture, weld and smooth out what you have done, literally throw it out for scrap because sooner or later one of the two ends will definitely give a place of rupture and there will be a big trouble.
