WATCH: Jacinta Price’s vision for Australia at the ARC Conference 2023

Jacinta Yangapi Nampijinpa Price is an Australian politician from the Northern Territory. She has been a senator for the Northern Territory since the 2022 federal election. She is a member of the Country Liberal Party, a politically conservative party operating in the Northern Territory affiliated with the National Coalition. She sits with the National Party in the federal parliament. She has been the Shadow Minister for Indigenous Affairs since April 2023. Jacinta has worked to advocate for law and order, racial equality before the law, and an end to welfare dependency and what she calls "opportunistic collectivism" in Indigenous policy. She has been a critic of what she terms "paternalistic" approaches to Aboriginal autonomy.

It's never been a case of victim-hood. That's the mantra adopted by those opposed to reconciliation. That's my point. I find her message confused. We are all Australians and yet she stresses those cultural practices which she loathes and opposes, eg her stories about her mother's youth. She's playing both sides it seems. Yet she follows national party policies which has more likely been antithetical to aboriginal interests. The point that she glosses over is that indigenous people want to maintain language, cultural practices, spirituality but guess what has been attacked most vehemently over the past several months. Cherry picked negativity. The yes vote was all about rectifying faults. It's as though Australians can't chew gum and whatever. I'll remind people that when visitors come from overseas to see what's authentically Australian it's going to include meat pies, AFL and themed outback Aussie pubs, but guess what's going to be at the top of the list. Go on, have a punt at what people really want to see.
