Lawrence of Arabia is a really bad example for this point, too. Their point is that all modern screens are able to display a movie-like picture experience especially since everything's 16:9. Except Lawrence of Arabia is something like 2.20:1, which I think is roughly 30% wider. unless you had a real wide phone, that picture would get real squashed when letterboxed on a small screen. I think they just assume "cinematic widescreen" = 16:9. Unless they recommend making 16:9 pan-and-scans for home release which would make me shriek like Laura Palmer.

Majority of phone screens are narrower than 16:9. With small phones not selling well, every manufacturer is putting out phones closer to 21:9 as it gives you a bigger screen that’s easier to hold. This has been happening across all price ranges since the iPhone 14.

I'm not going to claim it's the same as being in a cinema or even watching it on TV because that's obviously stupid, but I do watch movies on my phone all the time. Sometimes you just care more about your own comfort than getting the absolute optimal viewing experience for the 100th random movie you've seen in your life. As guys who have respectively played Ultrakill and MMOs with a controller on their TV, you'd think the CSB boys could relate. Whenever movie directors trash people for watching films on their phone I'm like yeah of course you wouldn't do that because you based your entire life around this exact thing, but you can't expect the rest of the world to care about your specific passion as much as you do.

I understand why people say that watching movies on your phone is terrible, but I’m kind of glad theaters are dying. If I have to pay 40 dollars to see a movie on a gigantic screen while sound is blasting at ear bleeding volume in order to “get the full experience” I’m not doing it. I enjoyed it as a kid. Not as a 33 year old man with a decently sized computer monitor and a pair of headphones.

For me it's mostly the audience who grown insufferable with their phones at full brightness, loudly talking random bullshit and acting like half of your seat belongs to them. @bretginn14196 ай бұрын
Same. I mean, I can still enjoy a theater trip every now and then, but the sheer volume and screen size has always been headache inducing for me, especially IMAX (God, I hate IMAX), and the pricing has always been...eugh. I'm spending close to 30 dollars for the theater experience once, or similar for an actual copy that I can take with me and watch whenever. Also, I can get subtitles. I like subtitles. Overall, the theater experience is overrated and I think it's the worst way to experience a movie.

I dont want it to die. Yall may be sick of it. Then too bad. I grew up with it dying and never really had the chance due to my family scraping by. Nothing can really replace a good theatrical experience the problems are the lack of good shit to watch (it's mostly general corporate b the numbers product), the prices, and dumbasses in the theaters that ruin it for everyone else. If we had movies coming out like Robocop, Die Hard, The Exorcist, Saving Private Ryan, etc., people would still be flocking to theaters, but there's not really anything like that now, you may get a couple of good studio movies and some limited release indies in a single year and that's it. Go back and look at some of the old release calendars in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, or even the 2000's, there was a classic or cult classic out nearly every week sometimes. The studios killed their own product.
