I pray God blesses you 20 times over! You are the only famous gospel drummer that's sharing learnable knowledge to drumming, that I've noticed. And it's funny that you picked the Para-Diddle. It's my most favorite and mostly used rudiment! Thank you Hugely!
@ilovelulu8492 Жыл бұрын
ParaDiddle fills in double time or cut time sound so bad ass also doing double paradiddles like in swings or funk.

one of the first if not the few drummers to actually use the rudiments musically and practically. a lot of drummers teach using the rudiments but then they don't show you how you can practically apply it in a musical way to the drum set. really nice lesson man!

Bless y'all for these offerings, forreal. I love that chops are almost like a hidden magic. doing the good work of breaking it down slow & serving it to the people like this LRRLL RLLRR I've actually not done this ^ rudiment. I realize it's in 5 now. Substituting the other-limb (LRRLL would be R in that case) with the Kick makes total sense. but part of the recipe here is to displace it so the 1 single starts someplace musically significant at first (RRLKK) would kinda be the downbeat or snare hit if these were straight 16th notes. so the first L would make sense on a snare drum musically and then it would spiral out to loop against the bar (macroscopic dissonance or something) without falling right on the beats until it comes back around. gospelchop style. I dig this so much. thank you

Thank you so much for sharing this! As a beginner myself of starting to get into fills and learning how to do fills, I find this video very helpful! You’re a very awesome drummer, keep up the great work! Love your videos! On top of that I do have a quick question, on one of the rudiments that you mentioned, the RRL KK LLR KK and as well as the para diddle by using a metronome, for how many minutes do you recommend those rudiments should be practiced for, using a metronome before doing it faster and doing it faster each time by bringing up the speed of the metronome and as well as eventually applying it to any of the songs from gospel or other genres?
@carlinmuccular Жыл бұрын
Hey man. I’m not sure what your level of independence is right now but I would start at 60 BPM if you can? Once you are comfortable, then bump the tempo up 3 BPM. If I had to give a time, I’d say every 3-5 minutes. But the key is to be CLEAN not fast. The speed will come but being CLEAN makes you a professional!
@caleb.kingproductions Жыл бұрын
Ohh, okay I see. Alright awesome will do, thank you so much! I also have a secondary youtube channel where I make music covers of songs from gospel and I also play the drums for my church as well but my level of independence when it comes to practicing the songs and doing fills as well, yeah it’s a bit low and so that’s where I need to practice more but yeah I believe by doing this strategy of practicing the rudiments using the metronome and what you recommended me, will help for sure!

By "chops" you actually mean "licks." Don't worry, almost everybody gets it wrong but chops is the skill of your hands/feet/whatever which you use to play the licks (series of notes).
