Here in sweet little Switzerland we have to pay for trash bags and one roll with 10 bags costs like 20 bugs. Also we collect everything that is made of paper or cardboard, we put it in a paperbag and place it at the street next to our home and once a week a truck would drive up and down the streets to collect our paper stuff for recycling. And then we collect things that are made of glass and food cans, because every supermarket here has recycling containers for glass, cans, batteries and plastic bottles. So there is not much trash around in our country. 🙂
@smallhouseinthemeadow61314 ай бұрын
Imagine if the entire World did that? It would be amazing.
@JacquelineBryant-is7go4 ай бұрын
It is the same in Norway, but we have containers around were we through away our paper and plastic. And when you bring your bottles to the shop you get some money back.

That is great. There is recycling here in America but a lot of people still ignore it :/

You are one of the most truly genuine "non-influencers" who can influence me to purchase a good functional product worth having. *This was a FAB-U-lous packing/dance party! After watching your video, I decided to clear out this weekend. There's a lot of rain in Switzerland at the moment and hiking isn't fun there. To be honest, I'll just throw a lot of things away. You are definitely an ultra minimalist and a huge inspiration to me. You once said that you just don't do anything in the evening, just meditation and rest, I can't manage that. Would be happy to see a video on how to do this.😊

That is easier than our last move with four children, two small boats (we lived by the sea) a huge aquarium and my husbands tools and hobby stuff, oldtimer car, fourteen chickens and their coop, two cats and five rabbits through two to three feet of snow 😂 (but all my stuff fits in a medium suitcase, at least that was easy) Wish you all the best at your new place! I watched this video after watching Christine McConnell's latest video. This is my extreme dichotomy. I'm looking forward to seeing your new apartment!

Sometimes the doors of opportunity shut when we live with too much. Several years ago, I bypassed on an opportunity to live somewhere with a wonderful view because the thought of moving was overwhelming. Since then, I've slowly (very slowly at times) made progress with questioning and letting go of the material things that may be holding me back. Thanks to you and your courage to share your experiences and deep insight, I've had a resurgence in motivation and stepped up my pace! 💖

Alicia, what a great packing video! It’s amazing how little we actually need as opposed to think we need to survive and thrive. Though I would not be able to go as minimal as you. For instance, you don’t seem to keep any first aid supplies (eg plasters/band aid for a cut finger)? After 40 years in this place, packing for a move would be a nightmare! I have been successful in pruning some of our possessions, but as hubby is definitely not the minimalist type, I can only go so far. At least I can work on my own stuff., and I still have a way to go before I feel I’ve got to the right amount for me.

Alicia, wow what a great packing session and an excellent example of one of the big benefits of ultraminimalism. I have moved many times in my life never with just this few of items. When I moved once I only took what fit in a backpack and left everything behind. There is something really freeing about starting fresh. Traveling light allows you start over easily! Oh, trash bins… When I got married and we moved into our home, my husband wanted to basically go on a shopping spree. At one point he was looking at $100 trash bins (um what) and that’s where I finally put my foot down. I said I have one from my mom’s for the kitchen and a small one for the bathroom, we don’t need anything else. And I suggested (to his horror) that we use a moving box for recycling since that has to be clean items anyway. Somehow I didn’t have to die on that hill and two years later we have the same old bins and box… of course he did but a fancy one for his office 😂. All that for a container that holds literal trash. I work my butt off, I’m not willing to spend money on that when I have something that works just fine. Definitely not the normal perspective but I got a little win there. 😂

Awesome! Im excited to see what yoy do for a bed. Although I like the idea of floor sleeping, I just can't do it.😊 (Maybe when I was younger but not now).

Don’t think you packed your Buddha Butter. Does that mean you didn’t end up liking it? Good luck moving into your new place xx

The mould disclaimer! Made me laugh
@smallhouseinthemeadow61314 ай бұрын
I was laughing because I was one of the ones who was so concerned. It's the Mom in me,LOL
@Exploravore4 ай бұрын
@smallhouseinthemeadow6131 hehe thank you I appreciate the concern but it’s likely just mildew which is a non toxic kind of mold

@@Exploravore You can do a scotch tape test for $40 and send it in to a lab and find out what kind of mold it is and if it's the "more" toxic kind--though all mold is very unhealthy.

We don't have any bins in our home at all. I keep biodegradable nappy bags for any trash and put them in the outdoor bins each day. Recently family stayed and wanted to buy us a bin and a toaster lol.

Haha! Yes, I get that all the time, yet I have far more stuff than Alicia! Goodness knows what folk I know would think of I ever managed to be as minimal as you. I very much respect and agree with a lot of your values, though! ( most recent - let me buy you some curtains - for a window that looks out onto my beautiful, small, courtyard garden where no one can see in!)

@@lynnoorman2144 it's funny isn't it!? In some way it's like they feel sorry for us as though we are deprived and yet we feel liberated by not having all the 'extras';)

Omgosh i feel like getting rid of mostly everything i own just to be able to move like this 😂 only thing is i have 2 teenage boys so maybe that wont happen though they also now dont like to keep excess unused stuff so thats good 👍 but i am still decluttering heaps more items from my home every week i have been for the last 2 years and if i was by myself i would be happy with just the bare minimum like you. You are the best real ultra minimalisti have seen on youtube, and i love how you dont care about other peoples opinions on what they think you should have, eat, do see & be ❤🎉 🪅 😊

I think teenage boys can be easy to please- a few things for sports, maybe a video game consul, and just lots of food 😄 That’s awesome you are staying strong on your decluttering journey- you are setting a good example for your boys 💙💙

@Exploravore Hi omg yes that's exacty all they have are a cricket bat set, tennis rackets and tennis balls, basketball, a Playstation each and 1 iPad & 1 phone for the 14yr old only mainly so he can contact me if they need me at school.. and 1 chromebook each because they need those for school and the 13yr old also has a nintendo switch i bought him for his birthday as older one has ipad and phone.. sounds like a lot of tech stuff But honestly that's all they have plus their only necessary minimal amount of clothes and 3 pairs of shoes each plus 1 pair of slipon shoes, oh and 1 game of monopoly no toys anymore as now they prefer the tech stuff, and now the only gifts I'm going to give them are money for savings so they can save for a car or house and buy food when they want and clothes and shoes I'll also buy, but 1 out and 1 in like me 😉 😀 👍 I'm going to declutter the kitchen more as I'm a kitchen container, utensil hoarder I feel... because I always have these bright ideas of making it easier for them to make something to eat or drink or me to make them, like a sandwich press, nutribullet for smoothies, waffle maker, microwave, pie maker, plus slow cooker and meal prep containers which I'm getting rid of today... muffin baking tins cake baking tins, pizza oven trays, cooking sheets for biscuits, containers to store it all in.. plus more dinner plates etc and cups as I think I might have guests one day or birthdays but really it's only always just myself and the boys and my mum sometimes and a couple of the boys mates at the most, im a single introvert & been single 8yrs now by choice... so there is my weakness kitchen stuff... its my fault there... not the boys.... I'm definitely sorting and decluttering the excess unnecessary kitchen stuff out today!!! Ive already got rid of a lot of my makeup and toiletries and clothes and shoes and only have a very minimal amount now of each, and I'm glad to say furniture as well 😊 I used to have sooo much stuff before it's definitely been a decluttering journey for me and i love it i wake up thinking what to declutter 😆 and i know im not far from having absolutely only the required bare minimal amount of stuff we need 😃 😊 Your a real inspiration for me I'm glad I found you ❤️
Have you seem the lesbian minimalist couple from South Africa? They are so cute and live furniture free in their late 50s. They now have a cat and joke that he has more furniture then them. They sleep on the floor and place kitchen items on higher or lower shelves so they have to reach or squat to reach them so they stay strong.
