Watch Out for THIS When Getting Bumpers Painted - My Costly Mistake

I work in a shop and honestly this mistake happens a lot from many shop when parts are dropped off without the visual car there. Dealer ship has many colors but from my experience there’s 100s of whites pearls and whites and clear coating can change the car as well, if used cheap clear coat can change the car color completely lighter or darker or it can be the same color just most times you need a blend so it doesn’t seem like a different color, small things can change the outcome, Definitely should’ve gone to a shop to get it done because homemade paint problems can occur like the ones you had and problems later on can occur like paint chipping off if he didn’t sand it properly , and wrapping can be difficult on those bumpers especially if your new to it. It’s your 370z at the end of the day just when it comes to cars, rather get someone that knows the car.

Nice Z mate but my OCD could not live with what is a distinct colour mismatch - once any fault once seen it cant be unseen - for $1400 the job should be done right... Cheaping out has a way of looking , well cheap - good luck!

I feel for you man! My Nismo conversion bumpers are currently at the dealership getting painted. I decided to go with them for this very reason.... but I'm still paranoid they won't match well. I did talk directly to the guy who will be doing the paint work though and he sounded like he really knew what he was doing. He told me that for my color code (KAD) there are 60 variations! They also requested that i bring in both of my existing bumpers, so I am hoping for the best.

I see this was 3 yrs ago but yea I’d politely cut ties as far as any more paint jobs go with the home painter and go to someone who maybe fixes a lot of wrecks. They do a lot of paint matching and yea having had a white vehicle painted from a wreck there was a slight variation in color I could barely notice, you had to be looking for it. Just got my wife a red 370 and there are chips on the hood front bumper a slight scrape on back bumper a couple scratches on couple fenders some flaking starting on the plastic above doors and mirrors. It’s not noticeable much till you get right on it and looking for it or when you wash it but I notice it and probably going to wait a year and have it all painted except for Matthew doors which are about perfect

Lol I think what you should’ve done is gotten a NISMO from day one. Spend more on day one so would wouldn’t have to spend even more later on to make the car look like the top tier version.

lol, the white is three coat white similar to the nismo. Color match is a big issue with the white Nissan cars. Did you get the correct paint from Nissan?

Nissan themselves don't distribute paint. The guy didn't even contact Nissan about what brand/variant to use.

If you're in the DFW area (McKinney?), check out Dallas Collision Center. They've done amazing work for me a couple times. Sadly, QAB is crazy hard to match.

Don't wrap it your self !!! if you didn't know about paint chemistry basics I don't recommend you to go and wrap the car it seems easy but it is not if you don't know what you are doing, how I know you didn't know about paint chemistry? well num 1 I highly doubt Nissan has same color codes for different paints, a possibility is that the color code was wrong especially if sourced it online but mostly even if you get the correct paint, you need to color correct because paint doesn't look the same brand new that after 2-5 years being burn in the sun and exposed to the elements in general but mostly UV rad will cause it to change, there are even some ford models that used to be white and now are Salmon pink I think that caused the more yellowish tone of the car versus the new bumper so yes it was your fault don't wrap it number one rule of real car people don't do a labor unless you are sure of your skill or egger to learn by messing up

I didn't paint it. Also there are different versions of the QAB paint. Nissan's pearl white does have a cream color to it (yellowish tint) when new, the paint this guy used just did not and he didn't both matching it against a fuel door. I did wrap 90% of the car myself and hired people to do the bumpers, no issue.

Imo..... Diy'ing when you aren't a professional usually cost you more in the long run or the job looks ok for a couple of months and then it looks cheap n nasty. Bite the bullet and get a professional to re-paint the bumper. Z'd owners owe it to the car itself. Zd's are in my opinion are the nicest looking Sports car on the market today. Useless in many ways but imo the curves, lines, bulbous fat ass, roof shape. It just screams look at me. So for myself here in Australia is not easy to legally modify your Z'd due to rediculous laws, however... Having said this, car enthusiasts mostly across Australia have up't their game when it comes to buying bits n pieces. Zd's here in Australia are being tastefully done and its nice to see the owners doing things properly. I cringe myself at the site of beautiful cars..... Butchered. Anyway.... My opinions only and none of this is designed to offend you Tuber. Call me OCD but I believe the fairlady's deserve tasteful mods so going down the expensive path of a resprayed front and back bumper would be my only option and I wouldn't go back to the same guy either.

Sometimes we take an "L".. unfortunately yours was a $1400 L.. get it repainted..it sucks but if u try and go the cheaper route with wrap, or trying some paint blending, you'll probably end up pissed..then youll repaint it anyway..

On video I can definitely see the color difference. You might have to bite the bullet and have Nissan repaint the bumpers. You want this correct and over with. Another thing to watch out for. I looked at my car inside the body shop building under their lighting, it matched, When I got the car outside in the sun I could see the difference in the new paint was a shade off

Your first mistake was not buying a true Nismo. A Nismo comes with so many extras and I bet you spent a lot of money trying to make it a Nismo. The price you pay for the Nismo is higher but also the resale price of the true Nismo is much higher.

Repaint the whole car, to match the bumpers then you have a one off 370z! Easier then trying to paint the bumpers.

I’m getting my rear spoiler factory stripped, primed then re-painted and then put on by Nissan Dealership. I’m also getting mud-splash guards for the front and rear tires. When I placed my order for all the parts I wanted, the parts guy told me to make SURE that when I take my new spoiler over to their installation, body and paints department(another whole entire place and location), to bring at least 1 of my already prepainted mud guards over there with me so that their paint and installation dept. can have the EXACT color match that I want my new spoiler to be. I will also give them the EXACT factory color paint code based off of my 370z that they need so my sh*t don’t get fu*ked up like yours did. Ha ha! Naw man, I’m just playing with you. Just a bit of humor to try to make you feel better. I hope everything works out for you next time. Pzzzoouut✌🏽✌🏽‼️
