Is it humility or acknowledgement that she believes and knows there are people out there to be much better than herself? Perhaps a bit of both. I give her the benefit of the doubt given how young she is; everyone in life is allowed to make a mistake. It is how they reconcile that mistake that truly matters and it is safe to say she has reconciled quite well. yet room for her to grow as she still identifies as a Republican rather than unilaterally deciding that she could no longer espouse hyper conservative views.

My (limited) understanding is she did not come from the best home life, so she was really on her own through most of this. I was happy to learn that she had reached out to Butterfield (from Nixon years) who did the same thing she did. We still remember his service to America 40+ years later. He helped her realize there was life on the other side.

This is difficult. She said (earlier) that she was raised by parents who were conservative and Republican. She would have to detangle the good they taught her from the not so good. She has great character and a desire to be honest, truthful and good. That is a great start, and we still have some Republicans who feel the same, though the tide is against them. She will think about what is going on, and come to her own level. I don't agree with Republican politics, but some are not evil, like some of the others, just different from us.

The problem Cassidy has in trying to figure out about members of Congress being of clear conscience and sleeping at night is that despite her fear over Jan 6th and giving testimony to Congress is that she is brave. She is the combat definition of brave. You act inspite of that personal fear. So that being said she is refering to Cowards in Congress. And that is a hard thing to postulate when you are not a coward. I think every American and especially republicans should read her book. At least listen to, and take to heart what she says.

I doubt any decent person can or does. That is the eye-opening reality check. Sometimes it is a painful reality awareness. It is impossible to trust the judgement or integrity of such. Has nothing to do with different 'opinions' or 'freedom of speech.' It is a strange thing to use the very thing you have broken your oath to as a defense and excuse from accountability as you undermine and destroy it. That is a self-destructive insanity. And they dont get to drag the rest of us down with them. They have to go that one alone and live with the consequences. I am sorry for the road they have chosen, but the stakes are bigger than the losses they choose for themselves. They have free will and no one can mitigate that for them.

Cassidy pointed out how difficult it is to leave a cult, essentially a large, powerful one. You may not like it on the inside, but if you leave, you not only lose your support from members, you might not find much on the outside. You won't know until you have already made the decision. That's a scary situation to be in.

Ms. Hutchinson started working at the whitehouse as an intern in 2018 when she was 22. Prior to that she interned for Ted Cruz during the summer of 2016 and for Steve Scalise in 2017. She became Meados’ principal assistant in March of 2020 at that time she was only 24 and had worked only for people from the most radical wing of the Republican party. IMHO, she is naive and stunted. The excerpts of her book that discussed how women were treated by the powerful people around Trump repeats a typical story of the disdain and little respect Republican men have for women and is not surprising at all. What is surprising is that she still considers herself a republican. I have to wonder what she would think if she really understood that 60-80% of republicans supporting Trump consider her a traitor of Trump that should be given a tractor’s punishment of death? It is clear that the Republican party has no redeemable value and that among the elected officials at the national, state and local levels of government there are few who have courage, morals and honor enough to speak out against those in their party who look the other way and ignore the corruption, criminality, and anti-democracy of their members. IMHO, Ms. Hutchinson’s attitude toward the republican party is like a child who has just opened up to the possibility that Santa Clause may not be real and that the easter bunny and tooth fairy may also not be real. But she is not quite ready to enter reality because she just might be wrong. I don’t believe she understands the true depth of the rot that there is in the Republican party.

@archeojoel. The problem is, the definitive book has not yet been written about Ronald Reagan. I’m still waiting for a really good historian like Jon Meacham, Doris Kearns Goodwin, or that other historian I can’t remember the name of right now - Michael Beschloss. Anyone of them would be up to the task. Even Bob Woodward. Cassidy Hutchinson has only heard about Ronald Reagan from fellow Republicans.
