I know no one is going to see this comment but the decal application for me was a disaster. I probably watched the video a dozen times and when I finally mustered the courage to attempt it the decal would not transfer to the blank. I did pull the backing tape off but when I tried to apply the decal [text actually, just a name] it would pull off with the scotch tape and not transfer to the blank.

In the episode, Chris takes the Scotch tape and lays it on the blank and removes it to remove some of the adhesive of the tape in order for the decal to easily separate from the Scotch tape when applying to the rod blank. Sometimes, the Scotch tape you are using can have more adhesive properties than other tapes. From personal trial and error, one way to make sure the Scotch tape will not remove the decal from the rod blank is by using the back of your hand instead of the rod blank when trying to remove some of the adhesive properties of the tape. The oils of your skin will greatly reduce the effectiveness of the tape so that it will barely hold on to the decal when applying. Hope this helps on your next attempt!
