For Doug and the trout rod question...I'm a Texas Inshore wade and kayak fisherman. This is for casting, most Texans use only casting. Most Tx inshore rods go with a short butt, 7-3/4" to 8-1/2". If you look at our custom builders like Laguna, Waterloo, ild 18, Sarge, H and H, Fish Stix, or even FTU Xcel and green rods, they are all between 6-7 foot and have a short but right around 8 inches from the rear of the fighting butt to where reel seat meets grip.

Here is a fact, I have been fishing for salmon for about a decade or so, hundreds of fish on the punch card, now I have decided to build my own rods. The more I found out about rod components and costum building, I can say I know not even the half of it about fishing rods. I just walked into the the fishing section a picked s rod that felt right..big difference.

guys love your video but when your using a umbrella rig you need more weight. Like 4 plus ounces what do you have to meet the needs of that?? Thanks Bryan

Adding weight to the butt of the rod isn't the only thing you can do to balance it. We also experiment with moving the location of the reel seat. Sometimes having a longer handle section can give you more leverage casting the big A-Rig and help move the balance to where you need it.
