As a brand new grower, this interview was extremely educational to me! As I have what I call it, a COVID-19 budget tent. Cheap tent, blurple light, etc. But saving for better equipment and as all growers know and what I've come to learn, is that you need optimum lighting. And, I didn't know where to begin or exactly what to look for. Now, I do! Thank you.

As a commercial vertical LED grower I would say his comment about stacking LEDs and HVAC. If you have a single layer canopy then you can go with less tons of cooling but if you stack two levels then you're doubling up on lights and you are basically back where you would be with double ended lights. We have two levels in our rooms and we have had to add a mini split to keep up. We are looking at filling out next couple rooms with double ended lights instead of more LEDs.

The IR discussion reminds me of the green wavelength discussions of 10 years ago in the world of weighted spectrum blurple leds
@sixmillionsilencedaccounts35173 жыл бұрын
Except IR is bs. IR isn't photosynthetically active. It's essentially just heat. It increases internal leaf temp just like HPS which may increase growth but only if you haven't optimal room temp. The problem is IR warms up only leaves at the top which makes it hard to maintain consistent VPD.

Great video, I liked how he didn't just try to push the company he works for. One thing I'd like to mention is about how he said to "run your LEDs at a higher power and raise them." Because by constantly running at max power it would reduce the leds life expectancy, just a thought.

Man, AWESOME information. I feel like the struggle with LEDs is real. Not to knock LEDs, but I am one of those people that purchased an Amazon LED for budget’s sake and am still mid flower and struggling to see the results I’m hoping for. However, the information that was just shared only confirms my suspicions, which is that a lot, of not all, the information available out there for growing is based upon the idea you’re using certain bulb types. LEDs are for sure a different beast, and once I get a taller tent, I can’t wait to maximize their potential! Thanks for sharing!

Hey Chris. That was a really great interview with Dan from the Green Sunshine Company. I'm still up in the air about my next grow light though. I really do like the ES 300, but leaning towards the new Optic 600 slim H. About the same in price, if you get the 2. What's throwing me off is the components in the es 300, not for sure what's in them. Optic 600 slim h has top of the line driver, diodes specifically for horticulture growing, hence the H. I watched your review on the es 300 and liked what I saw, buuuuut! Yeah. Thanks again for a great video. Grower's Luv!

My Lithonia shop light, 4k 18k lumens at 125w supports 4 medium plants. On a Lowes cc it's free. Just default. All for 125 bucks. Honestly can't believe it. I can get a DLI reading between 40 and 60 easy with a full spectrum and saved hundreds. Expensive led "grow lights" can easily be beaten by a good led shop light. My 200 watt(400 equivalent) 5k 18k lumens will grow 6 easily. Just food for thought
@patbaker21993 жыл бұрын
AFAIK to achieve the Emerson effect you need to give solely IR light around 770nm immediately after the day period for around 5-15mins. This speeds up the phytochrome conversion, allowing the plant to flower with up to 14 of light a day rather than 12, allowing higher yields. If you don't run the IR light on a separate circuit, all it's going to do is create extra stem elongation.

Still not convinced enough of benefits to drop my hps and go led. I have a couple led, not high dollar, just ones I purchased to try. And like he said on here, high output led set up do create heat, so there isn't much change there, and if you buy an led that draws 650 w and have a hps that draws 650w, not enough difference to get me to invest in changing. Chris, I'm sure you have hps and led, could you do two tent grow one of each all same strain, same nutes, medium, etc. Just different lights. I'll donate to the experiment.
@ethdsththwethr72204 жыл бұрын
you see you are wrong though, creates heat but a hps like the es 300 V2 which pulls out similar results of a 600W hps or better produces much less heat cause its half the watts, it does create heat. but if u have a 650 w led and a 650 w hps u better bet bthat led is gonna be giving off better par unless its a shit chinese brand also green sunshine comapny has side by sides with hps and leds and results are poretty much the same which back a few years ago no one would say that was possaibler

@NorthernCaliWay yeah i just said they still pull off heat, but if you compair them to hps that they compare to then you notice how much less heat there is, i have a es 300 and i havent had a need for ac, at all in winter, , summer i prob will, just depends how many lights u have crammed in a room as well,
