Watch This Before Planting Raspberries! | Puring Fall Bearing Heritage Raspberries | Guten Yardening
Raspberries are a favorite fruit to grow in the garden, and we have been fortunate enough to grow several different varities.
If you have ever wondered about how to grow raspberries or growing raspberries in general, you should know that there are different species that grow quite differently. One of the varieties we are growing is a fall bearing variety called the Heritage Raspberry. Unlike a summer bearing raspberry, a fall bearing raspberry will fruit two times in one year, both on the primocane and on the floricane. So, the berry picking season is longer.
In this video we talk about the differences between summer bearing raspberries and fall bearing raspberries and how they grow, how Heritage raspberries taste, and when to prune raspberries to ensure there is no overcrowding.
Pruning raspberries is an important part of the maintenance to keep the raspberry plants healthy, and to ensure good raspberry production. One thing is for sure, if you allow them to spread, these will appear to be invasive, but with good maintenance, you will find that these berries are easily kept to the growing area that you want, and you will enjoy their agressively quick growth and fruit.
Thanks for watching.

This is the best information I have found on Heritage raspberries! I've read so many expert instructions but at some point they leave something critical out presumably because they assume they've covered every step, but have left something important out and only confuse. This video is supreme! Now I know how to care for my raspberries. I'm also ready to start black raspberries. Thank you!

this was really great, thank you!! especially about the first year canes, etc, and the 2x versus 1x yielding varieties. i have some wild blackberries on my property and the 1st yr canes i learned to not bear flowers or fruit at all. but the 2nd year DO, and i'm seeing that this year for the first time! so cool! right now i've some tiny bluets and a raspberry, gonna try this yr. definitely keeping that rasp in a pot hahaa.

Excellent explanation on the raspberries. They are one of our favorites and we are actually in the process of planting 150 Killarney raspberries that we purchased this year. So we will have to wait till next year for a harvest as they are a summer bearing variety but we do have a fall bearing variety of yellow raspberry as well so looking forward to some of them this year!

Thank you SO much for this, I'm new to gardening despite being in my 70s, and have recently bought a raspberry plant which is in a pot and i had no idea how to manage it! One thing I've decided after watching your video is to keep it in the pot and not put it in my raised bed as i originally intented after seeing how much it spreads 😂

Heritage? Small berries. Annoying thorns. I grow Joan J -- it's thornless, fall-bearing, produces much larger berries, and is incredibly productive. I also grow them in containers using Sunshine Mix #4. That way there is no root rot, and I can control the spread of the suckers.

well, dear heart , I am at the foot of Mt. tucker in western arkansas. love my raspberries. one of the main things are that if your fruit as muscdines or raspberries are yellow, or red, my birds will not eat them, waiting for them to get ripe to a black, ????? what? yep. think about it. is it that way there? thanks for the info, always welcome here. tia bonnie

How do you keep them from getting into your grass? Do you dig them all up like that?
@GutenGardening
@GutenGardening Жыл бұрын
Great question. We have had a few stray over there, but not too many since they are isolated a bit by a raised bed and a brick separating them from the grass. Any that do make their way over, we just pull them out early on or mow them down, and we haven't had any problems keeping them contained. I hope this answers your question. :)

Great question! My understanding is that the majority of blackberries that people tend to grow in our area are summer bearing, which would be the ones that fruit on the floricane. What variety do you have planted there?

I assume companies are more worried about new plant patent propagation for resale purposes. It would near impossible to not break the propagation rule as a homeowner considering we all constantly thin out plants and move the around.

@miltkarr5109 no... no it doesnt. Me planting food because I can't eat much if what's at the store doesn't effect them at all. Nlt to mention the fresh veggies they get as well. For all the ones here please explain how growing food effects the neighbor, especially when they benefit as well...make sure it's an intellectually honest answer. No arguments here only facts.
