Switch failure on those pumps is common when they get a bit older, but at least now you know that, Cory! The feeling of satisfaction after troubleshooting and solving the problem is almost worth having to deal with the problem in the first place (the key word being "almost"). 😁 Glad you found and solved your pressurized water problem. Now you have just a bit more experience and knowledge that will make life a little bit easier in the future. Good job! 👍👍👍

I completely agree. of course at the time dealing with the issue sucks but in the end we are all better for it. Cheers

I was given a shurflo pump from an RV owner who obviously had problems with it. I fitted it to my RV I have just converted from a standard van. The pump worked fine the first trip but just played up a day ago when camping. If I pushed the fitting going into the switch it would work but stop if I took the pressure off. I removed the pump and cleaned the switch terminals and replaced. It worked at first then stopped again. I removed it again and took out the switch and tested it and it seemed ok but drilled out the rivet so haven’t cleaned the switch contacts as yet. I think I will replace the terminals on the wires to make sure it has 100% contact. Let’s hope this will fix the problem! Next day…. I checked the switch contacts which were a bit burnt and dirty so gently cleaned the surfaces with a thin mini file until clean and cut old terminals off wires and crimped on new fittings and reassembled and refitted and it now seems to be working perfectly. 😀

Great job finding the problem and getting it working again.

Hey Cory, Blessings to you and your family. Two thoughts for your consideration. 1) A new replacement pump or rebuild kit is a must for your backup parts kit (if you can afford it). 2) Your desire to dive deep in to an equipment malfunction is a rare quality to find in a man (woman). I challenge you to take the next step and disassemble components that are not designed to be taken apart. Although the pressure switch is sealed with a rivet, the rivets can be removed with finesse & a drill bit. What you would discover is the contact points of the switch assembly have been degraded by the contact process. I will post a link in a separate comment that covers the topic better than I can.

Thanks very much. Spares are always a must onboard. But it can be hard to justify the space. Also after I find the problem I find digging any deeper is time consuming for no additional gain. Aside for just learning a little more about how stuff works. Thanks for the info.

This is exactly what mine is doing. My pump isn't old by any means. My original pump was about 25 years old and I replaced it with this one. The new design was supposed to give better water delivery. So I went with the new and improved model, along with more expensive. I didn't like it from the start but I decided to live with it. Now this switch problem comes up so I am looking for a new pump. Sometimes new and improved isn't.

New isn't always better like you say. Sometimes it just feels like there are more components to break. And cheaper parts within that often fail.

For someone who very much seems stocked with the necessary gear/supplies to tackle both diagnosing & getting misbehaving gadgets back in service, I'm surprised that simply soldering what looked like some loose terminal contact on a purely mechanical (i.e. anything not soldered) electrical connection wasn't your first choice. Granted this is the first vid of your channel I've watched & I'm 100% assuming you + soldering are totally a thing. If not I'll prolly tear my hair out and shriek like a banshee for hours bc brain no compute hahaha

I solder only what cannot be properly crimped. We all have our opinions but solder on a boat has a proven track record to fail. Vibration leads to the connection breaking just below the solder point. A good mechanical connection is in my opinion is a far better option in most cases. This is not just theory but has been proven and I've seen it myself. But for anyone who wishing to use solder all the power to them.

If you get the crap out of your water.. that will help. If the micro switch goes bad, you an bypass it, and use a switch to turn it on and off... The cheap push on connectors are often the wrong size, I crimped mine to make it more secure.. you can solder to the tab... and make a connection to the wire that is more secure.

The filter normally catches most of the buildup from the tank. I normally prefer to avoid solder on a board other than very small stuff but vibration is always an issue. I think the solder is what caused the original to fail. Crimping is way better imo.

the switch is made for a maximum of 7.5 amps but the pump uses more (peak ampère). We already have 3 Shureflows with broken pressure switches. We are now opting for a separate pressure switch

That a great solution to this problem. Aside from that they seem like pretty good pumps from our experience.
