Absolutely. We bought our first class A in the depths of the great recession. I encountered countless owners who were in deep financial distress as a result of being upside-down with their motorhome mortgage. I must have had this conversation 6-8X. "Well, you certainly have a nice looking rig, we are interested and have cash. Before we drive to see it in person, I have one question. You have it priced well over the high dealer retail figure, are you firm on that number?" In every single case the answer was, "Yes, I can't really negotiate, that is what I owe on the loan". Every one of those owners was suffering from the hope, or delusion, that some greater fool would appear to save them from the mess they created for themselves. It was both absurd and sad.

A few years back I looked at some used RVs on the private market. Im astounded at how many people have 10 year notes and are going to be way upside down for most of that time. Paying cash is the best bet, but if you do have to finance at least put enough down so you could realistically sell it for less than you owe.

I'm a Ramsey girl myself. We bought our truck and RV years ago up front cash. Not emotional in it so we took our time and got the most amazing deal on the exact RV trailer we wanted that fit our needs and budget! Now it's so wonderful to be ready to upgrade and be able to sell our current rig without panicking.

I pay $125 /month for covered storage and cheap insurance. I will not sell it, though I have thought about it, because I own it outright and it would cost double or triple to replace it. I also keep it just in case there is a SHTF scenario. I could get in and go somewhere that may be safe. ❤

In these dark times I've decided to jump into the RV lifestyle , not going full time RVing just a way to go on adventures while I'm still young enough to do this on my own. I'm 61 yrs old, recently retired in Dec. (6 months ago), recently widowed after 38 years with the love of my life (2 months ago). These have not been the best of times. RVing will give me a way to join a new community of what looks like wonderful people. I ordered my starter rig, it is going to be a 2022 27' Flying Cloud. Hope to take delivery before October. I know how difficult it is finding a truck but just my luck I found a new GMC SLE 2500 that was so "reasonably" priced I bought it on the spot without a second thought. I took it as a sign to follow my dream! Have a buddy that pulls a 5th wheel so I'm getting some guidance. Every person I've met with an RV seems to be full of life and joy. I want in!!! Went with the Airstream because of potential resale value, build quality, and didn't want slides for simplicity and it's just going to be me and my dog. I'm finally starting to feel excitement at life after 60. From Tucson, Az, Thank you for the video

What is happening in the Ukraine is not what we are being told by the mainstream media. When you do the research and see how many politicians have ties to the Ukraine with their families owning shares of companies and working in high paying jobs over there, you need to question their motives. The Ukraine is the last of the cabal owned corruption plagued companies that are involved in human trafficking and worse. Putin is not the tyrant he is made out to be. This truth as well as many others will come to light soon. The economy will turn around quickly. Do some research on the Quantum Financial System.

I got a vintage mini motorhome. The mechanical simplicity, the reliability, the gas mileage, and the "dated charm" are all great. Prices for these "old girls" won't fall no matter what happens. Maintenance can be tiresome, but affordable if you don't mind getting your hands dirty. The old appliances [except the forced air furnace] all seem "bulletproof". The little water pump quit and the replacement cost $19. I'm loving the homey interior woodwork and patterned wallpaper- Why pay a fortune to have a "millenial white" interior and fragile remote-controlled electronics to operate everything?

I struggle with that assessment you’ve made - not because it’s not accurate - but because the old ones don’t have many of the features I crave for - which is more space and comfort / as the new ones have slide outs that add valuable real estate - and the layouts and materials are much better than the old ones. I own a 1989 Toyota Sunrader with a 22RE that I’ve updated and improved a lot - mostly the mechanics and suspension -- it works great and gets 15 mph and as you said - repairs are easy and cheap - I can go into any gas station / repair place and get it worked on as needed - even fits into those fast oil changing chains - but what I can’t get is more space and comfort inside. Maybe it’s time for me to look at older models that you are referring to ….so I’d like to know which models and years are you referring to? I’m currently looking at 2012 Winnebago Via 25’ models which fuel efficiency is comparable to my 22RE but has 1-2 slide outs and 4’ longer space.

I love the Wingman, but in this case I respectfully disagree. My view is the price of used RVs, particularly high-end brands) are going to decrease over the next few years because many of the new RVers are going back to their cruises, club meds, and other forms of vacations. That combined with all time gas prices and massive economic headwinds doesn’t bode well for the future of any discretionary assets and particularly those that rapidly depreciate of time. Even the Wingman’s guest that he says is the smartest guy in the RV industry recommended selling used RVs now, if you’re not planning to buy a new one. My view, if you planning to sell in the next few years, sell now as it will get worse before it gets better.

Good advice to think through all your options - before selling. The only thing I’d say is that it’s not true that if you sell (at a loss because prices were inflated) that you won’t get back in later in life. We are heading into a major if not extreme recession and if your finances are stretched to the limit - then I believe it’s wise to sell at a loss and get your finances cleared up. What’s not being said here is that if you keep your RV through these difficult times - it’s not like you will be able to afford taking Your RV on a vacation trip - as those trips will add to your expenses at a time when you will need to be paying off debt. And the idea you should keep an RV to create memories for your kids / grandkids sounds wonderful - but at the same time -how are you going to enjoy your trip / vacation knowing you are going further into debt? I’m a believer in the RV lifestyle - either FT or PT - but neither is a requirement that you have to do in the “luxury” that RV’s cost ….sell and be through with your payments …work towards being debt free and then go back in when you are financially stable again. In the meantime - if camping is part of your life - I’d strongly consider car camping or tent camping as alternatives for those years that you are sacrificing to become either debt free - or financially responsible. It’s not ideal as compared to your RV - but it certainly keeps you connected to the essence of the camping out experiences you love and creating the many memories “WINGMAN” is talking about.

I think we have not come near to bottom. When everyone started buying, I predicted this was emotional buying, without knowing all the costs. I knew these RV's were going to come back on market, I didn't see $5++ gas prices, so that even more so will cause the dump. The winter of 2022 is going to be a fire sale of used RV's, which will dry up the new RV market, and those prices will fall. Not brain predictions, just common sense.

If people are in financial difficulties, yes, they should sell. Not only rvs, but boats, atvs, skidoos, etc. These items are not necessities. I have seen people reach out to their church and other organizations for help while keeping all of their toys , luxury items, subscriptions, etc. Housing, utilities, food, clothing, and a serviceable vehicle are necessities . We have a 2017 Newmar London Aire we bought in November of 2017. I bought it for when I retired in 2020. Looking back the prices where much lower, Newmar had not sold to Winnnebago Last night skimming through the used and new MH's they have went. sky high! A new Dutch Star is now in the 600k+ range. We are not full timers and it sits inside a enclosed garage. So I am keeping what I have and taking our granddaughter to the beach this month. I also have slowed my speed down from 69 to 59 mph and amazed at the better fuel economy to help offset the rising fuel costs. I am wondering who is buying these new 2022/2023 diesel pushers at this hyper inflated prices?

Your advice is all well and good but the reality is families need food, energy to keep the house cooled/heated and gas to get to work. As all of these things are up anywhere from 10 to 40% and climbing every day, that gleaming piece of metal sitting in the backyard that maybe, just maybe gets dragged out 2-3 times a year but has a $300 payment due every month now isn’t so shiny. That $300 payment needs to be reallocated to put food on the table, gas in the car, and heat in the house in the winter.

Purchases, so expensive almost as much as real estate should not be made impulsively! Like a car RV's loose value upon driving them off the lot, unlike real estate. New models are affordable only for those with enough spending cash for buying entertainment toys. Used RV's are a much more reasonable purchase for anyone not rich enough to later find they need that money just to get by. At least a used RV can be resold without taking a huge financial loss. Also, plan to learn to do small repairs. If this practical approach is followed an RV will be an asset rather than a money drain that could feel like financial ruin.

You bought an expensive toy, unless you’re suffering a loss of income you would still be paying for your dream get away regardless of the economy. We have a used 2012 Chalet slide in truck camper, had been making payments for the past 4 years and got tired of the payments. The solution was pay it off, and that’s exactly what we did wrote a check and paid it off. Glad not to have to worry about that anymore. Sadly the RV market got way to overheated and now people are wanting out due to the economic situation. With gas prices so high and inflation at rates not seen in decades people are becoming financially strapped and simply can’t afford to go camping at a minimum, or can’t afford the camper or camping altogether. It’s gonna get worse sadly. Their rainy day funds are evaporating faster than an ice cube in Death Valley in July!

We originally purchased this year a small TT 22footer to be pulled with our SUV. After as a couple thousand miles we decided the TT was too much for our SUV to pull. Since then we have upgraded our SUV to a 1/2 pickup truck. We have no problems pulling the TT now. Now we would like to upgrade our 22 foot TT to a 26 foot 5th wheel. Again making it hard to pull with our 1/2 ton truck. We will sell our TT 1st, 2rd sell our 1/2 ton truck, 3rd upgrade to a 3/4 ton pickup and 4th go buy our 5th wheel. We have enjoyed RVing for the past 23 years, we have done plenty of ship cruises and are done with that. We love RVing, we can go any time we want stay as short or as long as we want. We enjoy rving with just the 2 of us. We try and go one week out of every month. In the Spring we are planning a longer 2 or 3 month trip up the California coast to Seattle and back. I know we are upside down with what we owe on our current rv. We will probably end up losing a few thousand dollars, but if that is the price for total happiness then let it happen. Tomorrow may not be here.

Very good advice. So many people jump into a purchase because of a low payment. They don’t realize how long it’s financed for. We are on our fourth camper in 25 years. When we buy, We make sure that we can pay it off early without penalty. We pay extra every month. However, you have to make sure when you pay extra each month, you have to ignore the monthly statement and continue to send payments. Our monthly statements are showing no money due each month because they want us to fulfill the contract and get all the interest. We do the same on our vehicles.

Then Covid-19 hit, the stock market tanked, lockdowns occurred, and much 2nd guessing. We decided to stick with our buying decision and have not regretted it and made many unforgettable memories. Fast forward to 2021, prices went up 100K or more, RVs were selling in days. Again, we had many conversations about how we could sell for 50K more than our purchase price and walk away with 100K (We put 50K down). But, we just couldn’t bring ourselves to do it. We love our RV and love traveling and camping. The profit would all be “funny” money because it would be gone the minute we purchased another coach, if I could even bring myself to pay an inflated price on another one. Again, we decided to keep our RV and spent 3 weeks in Jan/Feb 2022 at Disney,s Fort Wilderness Resort and at Crystal River, FL marveling at the manatees. Making memories we probably wouldn’t have done had we sold our RV. Life is about making memories with the people you love. That, my friend, is priceless. Keep the wisdom flowing and have a great Summer.

When times are tough the first thing to go is the luxury items like the RV and/or boat. Although I would agree that camping and RVing is great for the family, essential every day items are more important than camping. If you can afford to keep that RV then by all means please do so, but if this economy has affected your bottom line that much then you have to do what you have to do.

Great advise! Thank you! We got our Travel Trailer in 2020 and LOVE it so much that a few weeks ago we were thinking to upgrade to a bigger RV, since it’s 4 of us. We decided to hold tight and wait and continue enjoying our little trailer, because we don’t want to deal with selling now that everyone else is trying to sell. Thank you for reinforcing our thoughts to wait to sell to upgrade. The memories is what counts, not the size of the RV 😊

You are spot on. I work in the industry and the banks are already busting back the book values and not giving full value. Things are defiantly changing. Nothing new under the sun. People bought rv's in 2000 at 12-14 % rates. You are spot on regarding fear as well. RVs are not financial investments. They are toys that are meant to create family memories.

I can't figure out how anyone in the last few years ever looked at the selling price of New RV's and thought, " Yes, this makes great sense to pay more for a glorified trailer than some houses cost. And I will finance the cost with a 10-20 year loan which is longer than the MTBF of any of the components from which the product is built." Point being, RVs are an emotional/spontaneous purchase. RVs will never make fiscal sense.

I wish youd say something about RV's that are paid for. You seem to be solely focused on your business and you selling RVs and maybe feeling guilty for the people that you sold RVs to. While you're giving some good advice to those who financed, that has nothing to do with the people who paid cash for their RVs like I did. $10,000 and then another couple thousand dollars for tabs and getting the roof sealed , and probably another thousand just on paint winterizing Etc. My dad pretty much wants me to give it away. Anyhow I think what would be more encouraging to tell people is the kind of stuff you were saying about camping- like say if you really want to go camping then here are some places in your area that you can camp ,or if you aren't aware of places all over the country maybe suggest some Facebook groups, which there are tons of that can give you tips. I like how you reminded people what are you going to do if you don't go camping sit at home? People are trying to deal with the worst recession in 40 years. Gas prices aren't the only thing. Food's going to be expensive regardless if you eat it at home or eat it in your RV. In fact, when I eat in my RV and when I drink water pretty much anything I use from toilet paper to food, I am very very frugal with. When you're at home you're way less frugal. So maybe getting family or friends to pull their resources together and use your RV and get use out of it? Find free camping areas or events in your state? Also it's a good time to get to know your RV or do repairs and get it ready for when you can afford to use it if you're not going to be able to sell it. Also outdoorsy like you said and all of those places are great but you don't always have to let people drive it if you have a house you can set it up on craigslist even or on Airbnb get a business license for $75 ( in King County Seattle WA. thats the price ) and rent it out for $100 or more a night - especially if you live in a nice neighborhood... it's a lot cheaper than any hotel in Seattle that's for sure. Think outside the box. Anyhow, didnt mean to be critical, just seems like people think that the only people that own a paid for RV for are homeless. I would be doing the van Life/ RV life thing and be on the road if I could afford it and hopefully I'll still be able to do that, but it has nothing to do with the recession. It has to do with the guy that sold it to me not being honest. My brakes went out 10 days after I got it. And shady mechanics which I've had to deal with one after the next. Have a nice summer and I like your shirt btw 😊

We bought a 2008 Freedom Express 24 foot class c motorhome built on the Chevy workhorse chassis. The motorhome had 26,000 miles on it. It recently hit 30,000 miles. We thought about selling it but like most I feel there are other reasons to hold on to it. My main reason is the state of the country right now. If we start to see rolling blackouts or electrical outages it may be cheaper to sleep in the RV to stay cool or warm in the driveway than it would cost to run a whole home generator. I have thought of converting the RV to solar as this would not cost a ton of money. Again just as a back up in case you lose power to your home for periods of time. There are a few other reasons for keeping it but right now my main concern is a very uncertain future right now. We paid cash for it when we bought it so no payments. I’m wondering how many other owners out there feel this same way.

I expected by the end of the 2022 summer camping seasons for used RVs to flood the market and for those who don't already own, it will be a better time to get in one than even before Covid. This video is too self-serving. A dealer who sells RVs doesn't like the fact that lower RV prices are likely hurting his business. Conflict of interest? We are about to enter a long term deep recession...maybe depression. If you can't afford to keep your RV, sell it now and do it quickly. If we enter a deep recession or worse, you will lose much more when you have to sell. It's time to lower your debt, store up cash and prepare for tough times. Unless you are living in your RV, or don't have any ongoing expenses to own your RV, keep it. Otherwise, get out while you can.

With the info I had, I made a decision and I’m happy because the market does not change my view, especially long term view because in 30 years who cares, I enjoyed that period of my life, I took advantage of the bank’s trust in my judgement and thru it all, their money allowed those things I wanted in life. But it’s paid for and extremely well kept so we’re hanging on to it for now. We couldn’t trade even if the market was favorable because we are old enough that our next camper could be our last and we are still determining our wants and needs. But for now, camp with what we have because when you’re sitting around enjoying nature it doesn’t completely matter what’s hooked to the truck.

I bought a new 19 foot travel trailer in 2000 for $12,000 in cash. I lived in it onsite for 18 months while I built my home on 11+ acres which I owned outright (got it almost cheap because it was in the boonies) next to BLM land and within eyesight of the Sierras. I owe nothing on my F250 and home. My travel trailer has been across the USA several times including to Key West. I've casually looked at new travel trailers the same size and a bit larger...and they look like corners are now being cut (cheaper) by comparison. My travel trailer has a larger fridge/freezer. It's stove has 3 burners instead of just 2, plus mine has an oven which I use..the new ones I've seen don't have ovens. Mine has more windows. It has dual axles and a larger A/C unit which I rarely use. Mine has dual propane tank hookups and dual battery hookups which few new travel trailers provide (just room for single battery & propane hookups)....and I routinely fully use the extra juice/propane in the "outback" along with a small relatively quiet generator to keep the batteries charged. Mine has a crank-up/retractable TV antenna with a RF amplifier....that I hookup to watch a small digital TV when I'm near enough to big cities to receive their TV station's free OTA broadcasts. My travel trailer did have a very cheap AM/FM stereo radio with cheap ceiling speakers which I replaced with a Pioneer AM/FM/CD player and high end Pioneer automobile stereo speakers. The new travel trailers I've seen have built-in microwaves which are fine if one has hookups available. Thing is I often camp in mostly remote USFS, BLM and state/county parks that don't have hook ups...so in order to use a microwave I'd need to have a large, heavy powerful relatively noisy generator. I've "camped" in RV campgrounds with full hookups and didn't much like it...many have campsites that are essentially cheek to cheek....it saves them infrastructure costs plus they can stuff a lotta RV's into small spaces, for more profit which is OK but I don't consider that camping or getting away from the urban/suburban environment....it's just paying for essentially a fancy "parking lot" experience that may have WiFi and a pool. Bottom Line is think hard what you'll use your RV for, pay cash and then use the thing. I know my travel trailer has paid for itself and much more....even after 22 years it's a keeper.

We bought a large popup at the end of the season for way under book, just before the owners was ready to give up and winterize it. 7 miles per gallon could be expensive now. It’s an older model, not worth what we bought it for, but like I said, I knew that. Here’s where we differ from your video; We aren’t looking to sell. We want to keep that old camper. My wife loves that thing. I see her put more effort into that camper than I see her put into our house. So I take care of it. Just put new tires on. All new brake assemblies, chased the wires down, reconnected them and now all brakes work. Replaced bearings and races, and installed bearing buddies for a little added protection. Next month I’m going to reseal the roof, BEFORE it developes a leak. I am a journeyman diesel mechanic by trade so there’s a lot of stuff I can do for ourself without having to fork over a ton of cash for repairs. But I did find a lot of value in this video.

Dealers will likely offer to consign your RV and agree upon a price. Be aware that you will likely get a call that they have a buyer on the hook but will only buy it for 10-20k less than your price. They will pressure your emotional distress, all the while having sold the unit at the full price. They expect you to come in and sign a new agreement for a lower value, thus increasing their profit. It's not uncommon and makes some dealers liable for fraud.
