They have a horrible design defect where the little eyelet in the frame of the saw that holds the depth adjustment bolt is extremely thin and weak so it breaks very easily and is unacceptable for a saw that is this expensive.

Hello Catus- You said you bought this saw second hand and you knew it had problems. Apparently, you bought a damaged saw. Not only is the "eyelet" around the "carriage bolt" broken, the L bracket from the depth adjustment axle to the shoe is bent. My new 5007MG arrived today with neither of these defects. I've read scads of reviews of this saw, several from contractors, and haven't seen mentions of problems with the depth adjustment. You seem to be blaming Makita for your purchase of an item damaged by a previous owner who unloaded the item on you. I've been using a Makita 5007NB circular saw for 40 years and decided to upgrade to the MG when the trigger switch on the NB finally stopped working. I plan to replace the switch and pass on the older saw to my son. Before blaming Makita for a "horrible design defeat," perhaps you might want to start with an unbroken example to review.

I’m a big fan of Catus, but I’m inclined to agree and echo your sentiments on the saw. I still have my old gold guard 5007 ( electric brake ) and when it dies, the newer Mag model will take over, provided I don’t fully switch over to cordless. I have the rear handle ‘style’ 18 X2 Volt saw as well as the 18 X2 Volt sidewinder, which I use in my wood shop as a make shift track saw. Take care and stay safe

Mr Maximus, Thanks for the public service message. All my Makita saws were made in Whitby, Ontario rather than PRC. For the most part, I do my cutting with Syracuse-built Porter Cable saws or Rockwell/Porter Cables made in Guelph,Ontario. 😁

One of the most common saws on jobsites world-wide. If this was a common issue, people would know about it.

I believe the part number 188176-4 was replace by 183L21-0. Maybe the new part number made some improvement on the design, who know unless you buy the part and test it out

I have one for about 3 years or more. Don't have any complaints whatsoever. However I returned the Milwaukee which had a wobbly plate

I was looking at potentially buying this model or 5007MGA not too long ago. I ultimately bought a cordless XSR01 and it has a hex bolt and what seems to be more material.

My guess is very little in investment with design of their remaining cored product line. Makita seems to be focusing on the cordless lawn care market. Team blue is also being crushed by team red.

That looks awful. FYI I have a 5007NB that doesn't look like that at all. It's got way more metal all around and looks properly built. Just bought one for $15

Be honest, tell us that you squeezed it like a troglodyte. Anyway, you can solved that protecting the casing with an aluminum washer on the bolt. Advice to hacking the saw is free.
