I got the P1000 for last Xmas & I love it! I have the D-80 as well, but the P1000 is so much more convenient for on-the-go photography. Just not having to continually change out my lenses is a big plus. I did purchase a separate plug into the wall battery charger and 2 extra batteries so I won't have to sit and wait for my camera to charge itself. :) And you will need a big, heavy duty tripod to handle the full telescoped weight of this behemoth of a camera. I seen the stripes on Jupiter a couple nights ago, but the wind blowing against the lens and tripod just couldn't afford me the clear image or stay on point for me as I wanted. I got frustrated and gave up. But my lunar photography blows my mind how it picks up way more than either of my expensive telescopes can! Maybe I just don't know how to use them properly? IDK, but I do know that I love this camera.

This is probably the best review of the P1000 here on YT. Thanks for that. If there's one thing I d like to have seen more, is a side-by-side comparison at *equal* focal lengths e.g. both at 600mm and 1200mm. Having a shot with both maxed out (1200mm and 3000mm) makes sense for giving an idea of that the extra reach of the P1000 looks like. But I would have like to have an idea how the P1000 performs at equiv FLs with the Lumix. That would allow most of us to get an impression of IQ on shorter FLs. e.g. could the Lumix have superior IQ at 600mm or 1000mm? It's a question worth answering, as most might not often use the P1000 at its maximum reach.

@Angelo Cella Back in 2006, the EU controversially decided to classify high-end digital cameras as video recorders, which attached a customs duty of 5-12% for digital cameras imported into Europe. The classification was decided not just based on digital cameras' improving abilities to record video through its lens and sensor, but their ability to record direct input from external sources like televisions. A home video recorder tax would theoretically offset money lost from users recording movies off broadcast television or cable onto digital devices, though the EU has never been very clear on the tax's intent. The tax's consequence, though, has been felt in every digital camera user looking to use a DSLR in place of a camcorder, as camera manufactures would rather limit recording capability in software than raise the price of its cameras (or lower their margins).

Actually, when measuring focal lengths of lenses, the length is much closer to the distance between the rear element and the sensor of the camera. I have seen moon photos taken with that camera, which shame pics taken with a $ 4000 telescope. Lastly, remember what you had to pay for a single 3000 mm photo lens. Bigger sensor would be impossible without massively increasing the weight, and price. I use a lumix gf3 with a 100-300mm that's a 200mm-600mm equivalent, or I can use an adapter and use my sigma 150-600 That's 300-1200mm equivalent, but with that set up and weight, plus no image stabilisation it has to be used on a tripod. Lumix gf 3 is a micro 4/3rds system. I guess it could be done with a 1inch sensor but it'd be 4 times the weight and twice as long and cost a few thousand bucks. It's made at a price point to sell, designing it isn't the main issue, it's trying to sell it, who would buy a 1 inch sensor camera with a 25-2000mm equivalent lens that weighs 4kg and cost 3-$4,000.. Even at this price they'd need to be able to sell a lot to be worth the cost of development and manufacturing of it. The P900 is damn good for what it Is, the p1000 I don't think will sell that well, the kind of people who buy these types of bridge cameras aren't the type who want to pay that kind of money for it. It needs to drop down to around $700 ... £600ish before it starts selling in any great numbers
@wildwalkeruk6 жыл бұрын
I think it will drop to around 700 after 12 months, it's new so price is high, i was trying to find the launch price of the P900 so see how much it had come down by since launch (if any). The 1/2.3 sensor is about a crop factor of 6, which is as you have said why the zoom is so large, put in a bigger sensor and the zoom would have to be redesigned, maybe not much heavier, but larger yes. As for price, yeah a £1000 (in the UK) is way to much for the performance of a mobile phone camera in terms of sensor.

Think seriously about it before spending all that money.. Do you really need a super zoom camera? What type of photography are you looking to do? There are some great cameras out there for nowhere near the price of this Nikon super zoom. Do you want to do street photography? Or do you wish to do, micro photography, or night shots? For example, I have the Fujifilm Finepix s99OOW with a 50x zoom. I hardly ever use that zoom facility though, as I am more interested in taking shots of the subjects I have just mentioned. The s99OOW is nowhere near the price of the Nikon displayed, yet it takes stunning shots. I know what type of photography I want to do so that is half the battle won. So, as I said, before you spend all that money on a camera whose zoom facility you may not even use, think seriously about what type of photography you wish to produce.

I found myself a like-new condition P900 at less than half the price of a new P1000. Sure, it lacks the 3000mm zoom but 2000mm is also fantastic. Much smaller and lighter too.

I have one and love it. It is not superb in everything but ticks most of the boxes for what I need. Some suggestions...have a sturdy tripod and spend the money to get a lens support extension. The camera is nose heavy fully extended. Buy the remote control. In video mode it is slow to auto focus so pan slowly. As said here low light is a problem. Shooting wildlife at a distance is awesome ...suggestion have a sunny day to shoot. It has a preset mode for birds and works well for that purpose....suggestion make sure bird is not in an area with a lot of shade ISO 400 and below or you will get some noise. If you go to Flickr you can see my shots under Fred Fleming.

I looked at this and ended up getting the Lumix FZ-1000. The image quality is better, as is the weight. The only thing the Nikon gives you is the zoom, and the Lumix does just fine with its zoom. The Nikon zoomed in shows too much wobble. The 20.1 sensor is much nicer on the Lumix, as well. If you buy the monster, you'll be fighting the weight, the smaller sensor, the noise and other things. I don't think this will be on the market much longer.

The focus ring is a huge improvement over other point and shoots. Manual focus dexterity is important
@weeardguy2 жыл бұрын
@@mroldnewbie At such incredible zoom-numbers, trust me that a mechanical zoom-ring has to have a gigantic throw to be able to focus onto the thing you like. My Olympus MFT 50-150 mm or so lens at the far tele-end will give you a 300 mm tele (35mm equivalent). The Olympus lens has the great advantage of having a switchable focus ring. By pulling it towards you while holding the camera, the focus works fully mechanical. Push it forward and it's electromechanical. At the far-tele end (and especially with the 1,4 x teleconverter used as well) the mechanical focus throw is waaay to small to accurately focus on things. As you try to focus on that specific spot, you usually start 'tapping' the ring in the hope you get the right point into focus. In reality, you keep overshooting that point and you will switch to electromechanical focus, which, especially at both far ends of the lens, give far more fine control over focus. Even my mechanically coupled videolenses (all full-mechanical by the way, exposure, zoom ánd focus is all directly coupled) that are meant to be focused by hand are quite hard when you get to the far tele-end of them. Their throw is better (and the ring doesn't have the same 'stickyness' of the Olympus) but it's still quite a challenge to focus on exactly thát thing you want in focus. And I'm talking about 1/3 inch sensor cameras there: my videocameras with interchangeable lenses don't have bigger sensors. The problems only get worse with bigger sensors as the depth of field usually decreases.

WE LIVE ON A FLAT STATIONARY PLANE WITH A FIRMAMENT ABOVE. ITS A CLOSED SYSTEM. WE CANNOT LEAVE THE EARTH. THEYVE NEVER BEEN TO SPACE. NOTHING GOES IN OR OUT OF THE FIRMAMENT. A FLAT STATIONARY PLANE WITH A FIRMAMENT ABOVE PROVES ITS INTELLIGENT DESIGN. THE SUN AND MOON ARE LOCAL LUMINARIES. THE SUN IS NOT 93 MILLION MILES AWAY. THE MOON IS NOT 250+ THOUSAND MILES AWAY. THE MOON IS SELF ILLUMINATING. THE PHASES OCCUR REGARDLESS OF THE SUNS POSITION. I DONT THINK THE MOON IS EVEN A SOLID SPHERICAL OBJECT EITHER. THE SUN IS MORE CONSISTENT WITH THAT OF A HEAT LAMP. EQUATOR IS THE CENTRE/MIDDLE AND SOUTH IS BOTTOM /BACK ... THE EARTHS MOTION WOULD CAUSE DIRECTIONAL ORIENTATION... WE ALL KNOW THE EQUATOR IS THE CENTRE / MIDDLE. .. THEN WE ARE SUPPOSEDLY ROTATING 1000 MILES AN HOUR ON AN AXIS WHICH MEANS CENTRIFUGAL FORCE IS GREATEST AT THE EQUATOR. THE IMAGINARY FORCE YOU REFER TO AS GRAVITY WOULD GRADUALLY GET STRONGER TOWARDS THE POLES . ITS AN "OBLATE SPHEROID"... "PEAR SHAPED" ... "A LITTLE CHUBBIER BELOW THE EQUATOR" ... THEN ON TOP OF THAT THE EARTH IS HURLING THROUGH THE GALAXY AND SPIRALING AROUND THE SUN AT 37,000 MILES AN HOUR TOWARDS POLARIS. .. NORTH BOUND! NORTH IS FRONT! THE PHYSICS WOULD BE LIKE A WET FOOTBALL SPIRALING THROUGH THE AIR. WATER WOULD MOVE FRONT TO BACK ...NORTH TO SOUTH... AND BE THROWN OFF AT THE CENTRE/ MIDPOINT / EQUATOR . NILE RIVER IS OVER 4200 MILES LONG AND FLOWS FROM SOUTH TO NORTH. THE NILE RIVER WOULD HAVE 572 MILES OF CURVATURE AT ITS MIDPOINT (APEX) THEREFORE THE NILE RIVER WOULD HAVE TO FLOW UP AND OVER 572 MILES OF CURVATURE OVER A DISTANCE OF 4200+ MILES ON A BALL. THE NILE RIVER WOULD HAVE TO FLOW UP HILL BEGINNING SOUTH OF THE EQUATOR,CROSSING OVER THE EQUATOR AND CONTINUE NORTH DESPITE THE ENTENSELY STRONG CENTRIFUGAL FORCE . IMPOSSIBALL! THE SUPPOSED CURVATURE IS 8 INCHES PER MILE SQUARED. .. 1) BEDFORD EXPERIMENT PROVES NO CURVATURE. 2) TORONTO ROGERS CENTRE SEEN FROM GRIMSBY 6FT ABOVE LAKE LEVEL FROM 30.84 MILES AWAY PROVES THERES NO CURVATURE. TOP OF THE ROGERS CENTRE SHOULD BE OVER 200FT BELOW THE SUPPOSED. 3) CHICAGO IS SEEN FROM MICHIGAN.THIS PROVES THERES NO CURVATURE. OBSERVER IS 6FT TALL. SO 6FT ABOVE LAKE LEVEL.60 MILES AWAY.CHICAGO SHOULD BE 2166FT BELOW THE SUPPOSED CURVATURE. 4) THE LONGEST CANAL IN THE WORLD IS 100 MILES LONG BUT NOT A SINGLE LOCH WAS USED. ITS A CLOSED SYSTEM. WE CANNOT LEAVE THE EARTH. SPACE IS WATER. "GRAVITY" IS AN UNPROVEN THEORY. IT DOESNT EXIST. ITS A PATHETIC DESPERATE ATTEMPT TO EXPLAIN HOW EVERYTHING STICKS TO A BALL ROTATING AND FLYING THROUGH A "VACUUM OF SPACE". ITS REALLY JUST DENSITY AND BOYEUNCY. WEIGHT. UP AND DOWN. Single biggest drawback to this is the aperture range, an F8 fixed aperture on a 3000mm lens is just not going to cut it. If your using it for snapshots it is no big deal, but for anything that you want to have a bit of depth of field to, F8 is not going to get you there. Too bad, they fixed most of the issues with the P900 except for the critical one.

I bought one, and when the hype died away I realised I had dropped nearly 2 grand on a hunk of shit. Unless it's winter in the countryside you get terrible heat distortion Autofocus is garbage in any setting but bright daylight The sensor really is pretty crap, tiny and low detail Snapbridge is hot garbage. Because its a consumer camera nikon's computer software wont control it. DigiCamControl works, but because the lens is motorised you can only take unzoomed photos, which negates the entire point of the camera. If you're getting lured by the 3000mm, take a few steps back and some deep breaths. Yes you can get some crazy photos out of it, but it will take a lot of massaging. Buy a cheap full frame, a second hand super telephoto and a 2x converter and you'll need to crop and massage the results a bit, but you'll have something that's 100x more versatile, and will have some resale value. THe p1000 is a one trick pony. that will be worth it in a year or two when they halve its price.

The Sony a7R4 has a 61 megapixel full frame sensor. The P1000 has 16 megapixels. As far as I can see, you can crop an image taken with Sony's a7R4 to a quarter of the original image and then obtain the same resolution as with the P1000 = 16 megapixels, which in that case would mean that a correct comparison between an image taken with the P1000 and 3000mm and sony with 2X teleconverter and 600mm = 1200mm corresponds to an image of 4 x 1200= 4800mm if you use Sony and crop to the same 16 megapixel resolution. Am I right or wrong? On the other hand, if the largest aperture that the P1000 has in the 3000mm = 8 mode, Sony's zoom 200-600mm with teleconverter cannot measure up to this, since the Sony zoom is at aperture 6.3 at 600mm and with the 2x converter loses a step to aperture 11 ? I think it will be. How do other properties such as dynamic range and other important features of the P1000's tiny sensor compare to Sony's full frame, even if you only use a quarter of it when you crop the image ???

I would love a camera like that for my son , he has autism / Aspergers and loves the night sky . But there too expensive for me . So we sit in the garden and put a vid on of the moon while looking up. Great .🔭👽🌝📷

How far do you think the moon really is??? Considering you can focus on it. 100 miles?

UFO observer's (and astronomers) dream. Put it on a tripod and aim to the moon/crater and record in 30 min segments. Have several battery packs so you can do at least 1.5 Hrs per night. And would love to see close-ups of those chemtrail planes too. Is there a shoulder mount?

P10000, invented by aliens so you can watch UFOS all day long. Just wait for it.
