i stood out with drawing as a kid at a young age. my horses actually looked like horses. then i neglacted it, was seeking my path elsewhere. now im 30 and find myself be drawn back to the beginning (no pun intended). back to the pencil and drawings. i recently started drawing again after years. and its still almost like it never left. now a part of me is curious about art school and discovering what the creative corner has to offer my creative mind. but im also terrefied to check it out let alone comit to it. cause im not feeling confident with the expanses of a study like that. and i do not wanna leave my pets behind. they are my muse.

Congrats on finishing this lovely sketchbook!!! And speaking of art school, originally I wanted to attend art high school after graduating but due to finices that didn't happen. Although I'm kinda thankful that I didn't end up going, emotional stability and other, I just wasn't ready for it all. There is so much to be worked on and honestly I'd rather take time to develop my skills and better my mental and physical health too. So thank you again for making such great videos and spreading awareness topics such as these (◍•ᴗ•◍)!!!

Also a tip for high school students, Idk if this is just a Canada thing but check if your school has district programs. I joined the Emily carr district program and I got to take a 4 months long class with a proffessor from the university and took a class at Emily carr in grade 11. I learned so much and because I got a good grade in that class I got many advantages waiting for me when I attend Emily carr

Great news is that there are online options now like brainstorm, CDA, schoolism that offer online courses and many art jobs in the US don't require a degree if you're a US citizen, but if you're international you don't necessarily need to go to the stereotypically top schools! Either way wishing you the best of luck on your journey!

6:04 I'm honestly confused what art universities actually want. I'm not from US, our schooling works differently and I went just to general high school. I applied for art uni the last year during autumn and did share my characters, storyboards, finished animation etc. etc. with them as well as illustrations and 3D models and I got only 1 point out of 5 required for being accepted. The more I think about it I assume they take in only people who they already know, have relatives in the industry, or at least have previous art education and a self-taught artist "without a pedigree" doesn't stand a chance. It's not like I'm art god or anything, but they are teachers to teach, if I was already god-level why would I bother to apply...

I’m going into my 2nd year of animation so I hope this helps 1.Knowing you want to become an artist can be scary as it seems to become more real, suddenly more serious and different from drawing for fun as a child. I’m guessing taking it on more seriously is what makes you feel like you growing up to fast because it is a new chapter in your life? I recommend reflecting what drew you towards art in the first place/ your lightning bolt moment when it clicked in for that you wanted to be an artist. It could be a motivator, also knowing what you want to achieve specifically in your your career can make it less daunting and you can add and complete it slowly, to prevent losing your love for animation having your own projects separate from your school work can make art stress free and more enjoyable or taking a brake from time to time. 2.The fear of not being good enough is defiantly strong as an artist but changing your mindset can help. Rather then seeing yourself as a perfectionist see yourself as a learner it can help you accept mistakes as they are there to show you where you can improve rather then defining your overall capabilities and who you are as a person. If you can try build up your self esteem and overall sense of self without it being heavily tied to your art it will help a ton. 3. Stepping out of your comfort zone! I relate to this part the most, using me as an example I shy away from being social and being myself for fear of being rejected and the potential threat of embarrassment and at first I felt “Safe” but over time I recognised this system didn’t work for me anymore and had to figure out what parts work weren’t meeting my needs any more and to grow better habits as well as being open to challenging myself and being compassionate for when I struggled and even now, still do. It’s important to remember it is something to keep working on through out your life but take it day by day and the experience will pile up. I will edit this if I have anymore advice :)

youtube was glitching out on the last video so i couldnt comment but- i don't think that you don't enjoy art anymore. I mean- Enjoying story telling and making comics is a type of art. even if art is only the medium which you express that... people don't have to want to be good at art to enjoy it. In fact- wanting to be good might even hinder people to enjoy it... i mean, fear of failure is a huge barrier for people, right? idk. there's lot of different reasons to enjoy art and if you kept pushing yourself to perfection, i think it wouldn't make you happy and would even hinder you in a career. maybe?

I love your drawings sm! I want to get into SVA so bad and be in the animation program. I was wondering what you meant on drawing with a story in mind? How does one convey that. I sometimes feel like I do that when I am in my figure drawing class... do you have any tips?!
@mewTripled3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much and good luck with everything! With story in mind, it's like giving something a purpose or intention? When drawing a figure, try to avoid just having them sit there / stand there and staring into space -- sometimes you can't help it because the model will just sit there and not do a storytelling pose, but you can always make adjustments like to the face, give them an emotion, make it look like they are feeling something or doing something instead of just stand there and smiling! Thumbnails to show you think about storyboarding a story, or illustrating a scene about a situation helps too. Definitely a very abstract and nuanced thing that i did not understand completely at first too..

From what I've heard it might be more mandatory for intl. students to go to art school to be able to apply to jobs :(. I don't think you necessarily have to go to a top art school, but at least attending a US school majoring in the field of art you want to get into may be necessary! Sorry I am not an international student but in my video "should you go to calarts?" I have my intl. friend Noor talking about being one!
