Thanks Will for this video! You would be amazed how many Yamaha dealers do NOT know about this subject. I specifically asked the dealer should I keep clamps in case I need a tow. They had no response and really did not know about keeping the tow speed under 5 MPH. Good luck keeping Towboat US and Sea Tow under 5 MPH. I would bet any other tow company or a good Samaritan lending assistance would not understand these issues. Therefore, I keep clamps on my boat just for this reason.

Yep, it's a big deal and only those who've experienced damage or those who study really know about this. We want to raise awareness and make sure jet Boaters are educated! Thanks for watching!

Why was this not communicated to me when i purchased the boat from the dealer? This seems pretty important to not know about. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

This is addressed in the manual warning of severe engine damage if you don’t tow at low speed later in the event of an engine failure

Good advice Will on being an unnecessary add on with installing a shut off valve. My Yamaha master tech says your just adding another component that would be subject to corrosion and failure that would result in taking on water

Will, it would be great to see this on a single engine SVHO Yamaha for those of us who are not mechanically inclined. My thought is that it is inside the motor compartment just past the intersection where the clean out line comes in to the Y. Always informative videos

All KYMAs come with a ABYC required seacock on the AT 231 pump easily accessible through the trunk......but with Indmar Raptor 6.2 power you probably won't need to tow one.

Another very informative video. Thx Will! Question... I brought this up to my certified Yamaha mechanic. He confirmed that your concept is correct, but he's concerned about the potential damage to the hose from the clamp. He said it may get damaged on the inside of the hose, even if the outside layer looks ok. Wondering if you've ever had to do this procedure and how things were afterwards
@JetBoatPilot4 ай бұрын
@@jonathanspier6631 i have not had to do this much. I recommend leaving the span between the jaws at about 3/16" when clamped so you don't damage the hose. Or find some clamps that are more purpose built for this type of task.
@jonathanspier66314 ай бұрын
Agreed. I think we'd want to stay away from the typical metal clamps like you show. Has to be something that does the same thing without the risk of damage. Going to look into this

Will, on the naturally aspirated tutorial on the starboard clamp I think I see it clamped onto the corrugated outer plastic ring over the hose. Is this correct ? Will it crack or break the plastic cover and damage the inner hose ? Thanks for the tutorial. BTW to all the owners manual DOES address emergency speed operation in the event of an engine failure FYI

@@JetBoat_LongIsland I don't think it will harm anything. It's pretty pliable.

Yamaha, If you don’t have a set of pliers take your shirt off, or towel jammed in the intake via cleaning port and the water won’t make it through. I figure that out taking a bunch of sea weed and my engine got overheating, why?, easy water doesn’t flow even with engine running.

Please educate me - is this also an issue for non-jet boats?
@JetBoatPilot4 ай бұрын
@jamesfick4529 I'm not sure. You want to trim up your outboard engine when being towed I'd imagine. Some engines don't run raw water so in those cases maybe not necessary. I'd ask your dealer or an expert about your specific boat.

I get that damage can result in damage to the engine when being towed, but exactly what are the issues? I don't own a jet boat, but I have friends that do, so I guess you could say "asking for a friend". Thanks.
@JetBoatPilot4 ай бұрын
@frankrobinson5453 water pressure breaks components within the engine's cooling system which can eventually bust the gaskets inside the engine and require rebuild. For SeaDoo switch the exhaust system can be damaged but sure exactly how.
@rdsandy114 ай бұрын
@@JetBoatPilot really? C,mon, if the water system can take the pressure of a full throttle jet output, how is the pressure from parasitic intrusion during towing through the water intakes going to break components and bust gaskets? The issue is water being pushed into an open exhaust valve resulting in potential hydrolock and valve damage on a subsequent startup. That scenario is highly unlikely if you tow with the throttle pushed wide open.
@JetBoatPilot4 ай бұрын
@rdsandy11 if the engine is not running the pressure is sufficient to damage components if tow speeds exceed max suggested. This is right out of the owners manual.
@rdsandy114 ай бұрын
@@JetBoatPilot So the pressure from towing is more than a jet running at 7000 rpm. ok, whatever you say. The manual's caution is for what I said earlier. possible hydro lock.
@JetBoatPilot4 ай бұрын
@rdsandy11 no the pressure of the water flow on an inoperative engine is too great for the cooling lines to contain. This is the same reason you can't run water through the Flushing system without the engine running. Damage can and has happened when Flushing is done with power off.
